I would love to hear how you managed to downsize all your belongings so successfully from the old house. You seem a lot more minimal and intentional now and I would love to know if that transition was a challenging process for you all as a family. Thank you for this lovely video x
Sure, I can definitely chat more about that. Personally, the hardest material item for me to part with was my piano (which would have been expensive and challenging to ship across the country). Yamahas have great resell value, and it actually appreciated in value, which was a plus. I'd love to purchase a small vintage piano here in Tennessee down the line, but I have plenty of instruments to keep me busy for the time being. It was a slow process of minimizing over the last few years/months, and then we escalated at the end to sell and donate a lot. I sold a lot on Facebook market place, and garage sales. The new owners purchased a lot of our furniture, which was suited for that size home, and other large outdoor items on the property. The kids brought everything they really love, and we each chose our favorite items, so everything we brought fit into one Pod and both of our cars which we drove out. Ultimately, we are very thankful to have items we love most, and that the transition went as smooth as it could have.

You are probably the most inspiring UA-camr out there! I purposely avoid watching your videos when I feel lazy because I KNOW watching you will make me want to clean and organize! You have such a gift! Thank you for continuing to share your content and inspiring us ❤️ Thank you for showing the freedom in downsizing, instead of going for more and more and more, as the culture usually dictates. There is a book that I read many years ago called A Year of Mornings. The story behind how it came to be is an amazing one. It's a photography book that two friends created. They would send a pix to one another before noon every day and neither one knew what the other was sending. I fell in love with this idea and so I challenged myself to do the same over the course of what ended up being the best summer I ever had. Happy Fall 🍂
💕OPEN TO READ- This is a great time to prepare ourselves to tune inward, get cozy, and spend more time indoors. As the weather changes, we can take that opportunity for a time of reflection and gratitude. Spiritual and emotional shifts may take place during this time, and having grace, compassion & patience with ourselves is crucial. Personally, I can be very affected by time change, weather, lack of sunlight etc., so finding a seasonal routine is very important. I’m not as outwardly ambitious during cold months, but I am captivated by the fall and winter, and a unique version of my creativity comes alive. It’s very important to stay in tune with the seasonal shifts and focus on appropriate self care. Spring comes, and we can awaken slowly and bring out the new, but fall teaches us that it’s ok to let go, shed the old, and spend more time inward. Here are some things to keep close during the fall and winter transition: 1. Routines - Rest & recover. Quality food, exercise, deep breathing, stretching. This will add value to everything you do. 2. Being present - making coffee, walking the dogs, time spent with family, self care, staging beautiful spaces, prayer & meditation, educational podcasts. 3. Creating a seasonal vision board - recipes, visuals, goals & ideas. 4. Warming your body In the morning - Light movement, pilates, stretching, walking. 5. Fall bucket list/planning outdoor adventures - hikes, fishing, carnivals, fairs, farmers markets, thrift stores. 6. Warm & cozy- Fall teas, coffees, warm stews, soups & hearty recipes 7. Creativity - journaling, crafts, knitting, sketching, practicing music, cooking, sewing, quilting, winter photography & capturing nature. 8. Hibernation period- Prepared, aware, & present. Not letting seasonal depression/ hormonal cycles take us off guard. Journaling and being completely tuned into thoughts, feelings, and sensations in the body. Listening to music, or a good podcast. This may feel a bit uncomfortable because we are so used to being busy. It almost feels wrong to slow down. It can feel a bit lazy. We can mimic the seasons and find that balance within our own lives. 9. We don’t need rush, or compare. There is no one exactly like you, or anyone with your exact story. Take the time and space you need to heal and create habits that will better your life and the lives of those around you.
Praying you feel The presence of Jesus through all the seasons and rest in His word! It’s amazing to see how God gave us such beauty through all the beautiful seasons and changes of life. Even through pain He brings beauty & True joy 🙏 blessings to you Rachel 😊
You have really inspired me to minimize my belongings. I've collected so much in my adult years and I realized that really not many of them meant that much to me anymore and was keeping them for the sake of filling empty space in my home. I've recently started donating and throwing out a lot of old pieces and my house is so much easier to tend to now. Thanks for the inspo, Rachel! 💜 - Whitney, Kansas :)
Hi Rachel, I think your going to love feeling the change of seasons which is quite different from where you lived in California. Living in the northeast can be rough in the winter with snow, but the spring, summer and fall are wonderful. I also love cooking stews, soups, brisket and baked goods, so please do share your recipes. I am going to miss seeing the horses that were your neighbors and of course all the other animals too. With all that's going on in the world I'm looking forward to hibernating for a few months this winter.
You need to have a podcast in spotify about these stuffs, taking care of yourself physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. You have great tips. Plus, you have a soothing voice too.
I'm not someone who is always (or ever) going 100mph but your videos always remind me to slow down even further and take time for the little moments. ~ I'm so, so happy for you! :)
i am working on getting over what i can best describe as a week long anxiety attack and i just want to say thank you so much for your videos. even though we live different lives (i’m a college student, who definitely does not have a husband and kids lol) i find so much comfort and security in your videos. throughout the years your videos genuinely have helped soothe and ground me. all the best to you, always.
I'm so glad you're talking about these things because they also help me process life and take care of myself. We are about to be in a seasonal transition period, and I think some people are more sensitive to it, especially myself. I don't get to hear people talk about it in this much detail, so it's very refreshing ☺️
Beautiful video Rachel! A pre-welcome to quilting! I think you will love it! I have been quilting for over 19 years, and I’m at my sewing machine almost daily. So many great channels on UA-cam ! Your new home looks so comfy! Love minimalist life style, and keeping thing decluttered and organized!
After watching your video it really got me thinking about the point you made to adjust to the seasons. I just realized that I am know that get very affected by the seasons. I am much of the fall and winter person especially since I live in Arizona. I noticed that my depression occurs during the summer here. Growing up my family we got to the woods or vacation back in Poland for the summer. And since I got married my husband is a city boy and so that means very few trips into nature. So now with two small kids it’s hard for me to go alone camping and I am stuck waiting for the summer to end so I can truly be outside.
I've always admired that you had a music room. I have played the piano since I was a little girl. In my thirties I finally got a baby grand. When I moved up to the mountains in North GA 20 years ago, it had to come with me but it's not in a separate room. It actually takes up my family room. 😆I liked your separate music room and I bet you miss that. I actually in the past 2 years play my electric keyboard more than my piano. It's amazing how much rich sound the electric keyboards produce nowadays. My piano is way past time for a good tuning. One of my favorite things to do is to looking in thrift and antique stores for really old sheet music and play it on the piano.
The project at 9:05 made me remember your tapestry from a Christmas video you made back in 2015. Your dad sang with you ♥️ minute marker 4:31. I had to look back, I’m just that appreciative. You’ve always been an inspiration ❤
I know I’ve said this many times, but you remind me of my younger self so much. It’s very easy to relate to someone who shares the same likes, ways of doing things, and creative minds. I’m working on my 4th quilt and fully enjoying my current obsession. Lol I say that because I will move to something else soon like painting, photography, or creative Fall bakes. Lol I know you get that 😉
The seasons are the best here. Nothing terribly extreme. They're just right. I love the idea about your makeup/hair spot! I'm gonna have to look into that!
I love your idea about the seasonal vision board ❤️ especially for these next few that can typically lead to seasonal depression for many. Thank you for a very inspiring video ❤️
I just noticed that you posted a few videos recently. I’m excited to watch them! I’m so jealous that you get a real fall. I am a California fan of yours and you are totally right. We really don’t get fall weather. It’s going to be 93 degrees here today ☹️
