any confirmation on if Great Old One activates the genesis when being shapeshifted into?
He does not, because when a minion transforms it is treated as the same game object, so the Great Old One had already been in play as the Guile Sirens.
Shapeshift wouldn't trigger the genesis. It doesn't enter the battlefield to trigger genesis is my understanding.
