    I like the looks of these "humpback" knives. Whenever I see one, I feel like I'm hanging out somewhere in the Alps. And I've never been to the Alps. lol Thanks, Tobias.

    I have a spearpoint Boker Barlow with castle wood. flawless except for a small gap on the backside between the cover and bolster that seems to be filled in. still very good and snappy. excellent video tobias!

    Yeah that's a beauty I have the Boker Beer Barrel canoe absolutely love it I keep the oak slabs hydrated with mineral oil...👍

    Marvelous! Have looked at that one a 1000 times :-D I have a solingen made Boker Scout (a hunting knife like the Buck 112) and it is 100% perfect. I have a video on it.

    Big thumbs up for your discussion about the Boker wine knife, not many videos on this model and certainly none better covered. I always wondered if that wood from wine barrels would be splintery, good to know they are not.

    Hey Tobias, I don’t have a Boker wine messer, but I have had a couple of the modern camp knives. Both have had weak or slow action on the can opener. One I had to send one back (no hope!) the other broke in over time. I think you are right, it has something to do with the strong tension on the back tools. And I feel like the screwdrivers on the modern ones are almost ornamental, which is a shame. I really like the new shield and I think the knives will really hold up over time however. A lovely addition to your collection! Atb.

      Thanks HobieonUA-cam. As I said I’m keeping it. Hopefully it will improve but it’s a pattern I enjoy collecting. For that reason, I can live with the flaws.

    I was a bit disappointed to see the walk and talk of this knife, or rather the lack of. It still is a beautyfull knife with a history.

    Great review Tobias, I would flush the pivot with a few drops of oil and work the blade. I've found this method to help action on a few different makers knives. But I admit I don't have any Bokers.

    Good looking wine knife. Really like that it is reclaimed wood from wine barrels. I think that also have another knife made from reclaimed wood from a castle or something. Shame the pull is so weak and so little tension once opened. Good looking though and should be very functional except as a screwdriver especially if the screws are somewhat tight.

    The only knives I have with soggy actions like that are an early Lee White Taylor’s Eye Witness and a GEC, yes a GEC #62.

      Even in a GEC. It can happen in any company. Sometimes it is just the way the knife pattern is made.

    That Oak handle is beautiful and unique. Excellent review. QUESTION: If my SAK's blade is stamped "DELEMONT" does that mean it's a Wenger? Thanks

      If the knife has a Wenger shield, it's a Wenger. If it has a Victorinox shield, then the Delemont stamp means that it is one of the models that Victorinox kept in production after they bought Wenger out. The rangergrip and evogrip knives are examples of this. Hope this helps, buddy.

      Victorinox makes the old Wenger knives in the Delemont factory. The difference now is they have the Victorinox shield and are stamped Victorinox Delemont instead of Wenger Delemont.

      @@KnifeChatswithTobias Thank you Tobias. I once told you I thought Victorinox knives were "manufactured collectables". Well I've changed my mind. They are Swiss made, top quality, appealing knives at mass produced prices and SAK's have every theme covered. Perfect for collecting!

    The grain does look like that in European oak used for barrels. I don't think it is layers.

    I have the exact same issues with my Boker winzermesser, but I have plenty other Solingen Bokers that are first class in every way! Shame that you
    have experienced this with your first one and hope it hasn't put you off Solingen Bokers!🇩🇪🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Hi Tobias,
    regarding the thumbnail of this video, it seems, all three tools are putting pressure onto the spring (if the can opener doesn't have a halfstop). This might be the reason for the lazy snap of the tools. I have accidentally destroyed my Victorinos Waiter by playing around with the tools in this manner, and suddenly the snap was gone entirely, which had been quite strong previously.
    Even more robust knives, like the Victorinox Pioneer, lose a little bit of spring tension, when both tools operating on one spring are put into positions, where they put pressure on the spring at the same time. Sounds like the improved muskrat was a good idea ;D (with two long blades, that put even more pressure on the spring). But it seems, one should only operate one tool, when all others on the same spring are in opened or closed position.

      The issues with the knife have been there since I received it. I know what you’re talking about concerning backsprings but in this case, the knife was performing like this before that photo. It continues to perform in the same manner. ( I take the photos for the slide show after shooting the video)
      With that said, it wouldn’t be a bad idea for me to do a video on how to position blades for photos. There are ways to do it without putting undue pressure on the spring

    That's a nice looking knife that will only get better as it ages. I understand your frustration with the lack of 'snap '. Myself I just purchased an otter 3 rivet knife that also has very little walk'n talk. Blade is still nice and firm though..perhaps it's a German thing?

    Hello , There is a good chance that the fixed blade knife , may have been manufactured in Fort Smith , Arkansas , where I know one of the U.S.A. factories was located !!!

    A lovely traditional, shame it's so expensive with the weak springs, your not wrong about the action of the knife...
    I'm sure boker would have charged more for the covers if the wood was stabilised.

    I've had several German bokers that were close to drop closethey just can't seem to duplicate the walk and talk of their barrows which are great

    Barrel staves are cut 1/4 sawn , so you are looking at solid wood !!!

    I have noticed lately no matter what brand I buy I have to put them in the sink with soapy water and a nylon scrub brush and get the crud out then lube them before they have good walk and talk.

    Beautiful review as always. Its about 100 pounds in Heinnie Haynes store. I feel Boker Plus line which are outsourced to China are made better than these. I recently perchased Boker Atlas & Boker Lancer 42. Amazing built quality. So Boker Solingen need to live up to the price they are charging. 4034 steel for this price? My boker atlas has 12C27 which i think is much better than this. Tobias I wishthat someday you will review Mercator K55K knife :)

    I look at most higher priced Bokers and they seem to be overpriced compared to other knives in the same price range. Although fit and finish is good they seem to use the cheapest structural materials they can get away with, covers seem to be good quality but blades not so much.
    I don't have any Bokers now, I had a few dating from the 60s and 70s but they got left behind in the UK when I moved to Spain, the older ones are decent knives but plain if my memory serves.

      Yep! I was shocked to see a steel used for budget Steak knives and Frost cutlery being used on a knife in this price range. That was one reason i took so long to pull the trigger! As I said, I'm keeping it because of my collection of bartenders. But it is not a knife I would recommend any one buy without a similar reason. There are much better and cheaper knives that can pull a cork!

    I too only have one boker not that but a single blade. The opening is weak but it closes with a snap shut. Centering is terrible apart from that it's an ok nice knife.

    Beautifully crafted knife but needs half stops, a lock for the screw driver and a more vigorous "snap." For the money I would recommend the French Aguiole corkscrew knife. Classic-Laguiole-Corkscrew-Knife-Walnut-Handle-Fontenille

    Boker: bringing you budget steel blades at a premium prices. They do look nice, but for well over a hundred dollars you should be getting more than 4034 low carbon stainless. And with the action on your example, you'd be better off with a Rough Ryder. I've given up on Boker.

    I have always thought that that oak series with the burn coloration on the handle scales , was sold as the BEER BARREL collection ???

      @@davidwhiren817 My thoughts is they used wine barrels for this series and Beer Barrels for the others. Or is nothing else, they used old oak barrels used for spirits of some kind and depending on the knife they said its was wine or beer. In the end it was wood from reclaimed oak barrels. As the would had been used for storing liquids, it becomes a denser, heavier wood. I'm good with it.

    I only have a Barlow from Böker Solingen but that one has got really good walk and talk. I would be really disappointed with the action you got on your knife, since Böker got a good reputation. Nice review though!

    Dunno man, I've always loved my Victorinox. Whenever I tried something else I was always disappointed or felt cheated.

    its a shame man , i would be sending that back , its not a cheep knife and it should be better than it is , I love boker knifes and have many different models and I am toying with getting a sport messer

      From what others have said this is about as “perfect” as this knife gets. Sometimes it comes down with just the design of the knife. Every slip joint pattern has its own idiosyncrasies.

      @@KnifeChatswithTobias I just thought it would work better . It's been on my buy list for awhile now . But when you know it's not going to be a user it needs to be enjoyable to open and close . Probably sounds petty but that's my opinion. At least it's not a Ruslock . Lol

    The handle is extremely cool but that seems to be about it. I have a Lionsteel Jack 3 with the same tools but with way better materials and build quality.

    It is not a true sommelier's folding knife , but close !!! it does not have the champagne blade & an easy out cork lever !!! No wine worth mentioning uses a bottle cap lifter to open it up for consumption !!!

      The cap lifter is for beer bottles. The pattern is a bartender knife. But i agree it is not a proper waiters tool by today’s standards.

    A professional bar tender would not be allowed to use this knife in a bar that serves the public !!! all of there tools have to be able to be dish washer cleaned & with no nooks or crannies that could not be reached for cleaning & sterilized for serving the public , so the folding aspect of this knife creates those uncleanable nooks & crannies at the blade pivot points !!!
