  • RIP DEC 2021 💔
Number 1198 out of 1500. Milan, Italy, 1975. Major arcana only. All of his tarot original art have been majors only.
The IL MATTO here is a self portrait.
Maestro Menegazzi never learned how to read the tarot. I found those tend to be the ones to create the most interesting tarot.
In 2015 he slowly passed on the reign of his Magic Shop to his step daughter, Christina Dorsini. (In his Tarocchi Expo Milano 2015 you could see some cards signed by Christina Dorsini, instead of Osvaldo Menegazzi). Soon after, they rebranded, the magic shop turned into a boutique, and moved to a fancier side of Milan.
I have no idea what happened to his work space, and if it is still in the shop, how he access it since he lived further away from the shop now. (The old shop was closer to where he resided and where his social circles are/were).
My own father was an architect, and I know he needed his creative space to be close and immediate, as well as accessible at all times, because creative flows know no time, or schedules.
We wish the Maestro a long, happy, healthy and fulfilling life. He is always in all of our minds.

I would love to be a Tarot card maker like Osvaldo. He’s going to be 91 this year and still a Master Tarot card maker. This man has dedicated his entire life to the Tarot. To paraphrase Carl Jung, ‘it’s a terrible thing to fall into the hands of a living god”.
This video is very synchronistic for me as I started making my own decks around the same age that Osvaldo did (45) and his first deck features among other things, shells. I’ve been called Shell my whole life, shortened from Sheldon.

Oh wow 😳 The Shell tarot and your name Shell. What synchronicity! 😮 From what I saw I think you are a good cartier. If I ever go back to collecting yours would be some of the the first I would look for. Maestro Osvaldo has largely retired from what I heard. He no longer have access to his work space unless he has access to the shop, which from what I heard, he no longer have access to independent of Christina his step daughter. This could be inaccurate I don't know. Plus the shop is now close to the Duomo from what I remember, and far from where he lives and where his community is. My dad was an architect and a creative person. He worked at odd hours whenever inspirations came, and so I can only imagine how tricky it must be to work only between assigned hours and / or by request. A lot of us are thinking of him and how he is doing during his retirement years. I would love to one day be able to talk about your creations!

@@NobodyHere I was in Italy recently and desperately wished to meet him. I decided not to try because he's old and I don't think its appropriate at this time. Perhaps we'll meet one day when this is all over. I'm sure he's well looked after, as Italians in general have great respect and very supporting of their elderly. Another Tarot master I often worry about is Jodo. He's also in his 90's now. Despite being such a polarizing character in the Tarot world, there's no doubt about his dedication to it. On a positive note, Jodo looks really good in his recent documentary 'Psychomagic, A Healing Art'. Thank you for the kind words about my decks. I'm trying my best to make decks that is, in my opinion, a true representation of the Tarot de Marseille tradition. I would be most happy to send you a handmade deck.

He is quite the artist. I often think of how he is doing since handing over the business to his step daughter. Knowing artists, they need to keep creating, and need to do so with as much freedom as possible.

Oh funny, I hemmed and hawwed for a few years about getting this. I didn't know the cards would be glossy! Especially from Il Meneghello.....

Their cardstock is known to be highly varied given that they are a small one man show for a long time, I would assume they had to go with whoever made the numbers work for each batch of printing, which as you can see here, and in many of their decks, are usually very small batches.
