When he pulls his hair back, you can really see Glenn has lost a lot of weight... yet his Heart continues to outweigh us all! Loved the great content as always, FU G.
I could see the behringer being useful for certain amps. Might even be fun on certain snares too. Doesn’t sound like an sm57, it has it’s own character
I actually like how the SL75C sounds in the mix. Seems rather detailed for a $23 mic. I wonder how consistent they are. I know it wouldn't survive road use as well as an SM57.
Actually, I think I prefer the sound of the 75C over the 57. Weird how that works, when we're supposed to Not Be Okay with Behringer. I might not agree with the company, but I like their products.
First of all, huge respect for keeping character throughout lol. Second, and this might be a bit of an unpopular opinion, but I enjoyed the lack of yelling lol
I bought my first mic, an SM57, on sale for $75 at Sam Ash in the 90s. The store guy said "You could throw it at a wall and it would sound the same. You could beat it with a hammer and it would sound the same." Still using the SAME exact mic today. Thanks rando store guy!
Disclaimer, I am a mic snob. Loved this, well done. You have lost weight, well done again. I only have old Unidyne III versions of the SM57. They are much heavier than the standard SM57. And each one of them is a different weight, I assume the oldest is the heaviest, but can't prove it. The heaviest is near twice the weight of the current SM57. The in my case, the heavier they are, the better they sound. YRMV.
Fantastic. Very good job in demonstrating how great this Behringer mic is with no sarcasm whatsoever. And if I ever need to record something that I don't care about at all, I will definitely put this mic on the short list.
You know when Glen throws the suit on, shit is about to hit the fan! Also got a bit of that Penn and Teller look going on. Thanks for the awesome video!
The final line should certainly put a nail in this mics coffin, the whole review is the very definition of 'damning with faint praise' and superbly well done. Serves them right for suing reviewers. Great job and FYG.
The B75 sounds just fine . If the name tags were switched , You'd all b saying the sm57 was dull , boxy and lifeless lacking top end definition ! Oh what a world . I own 2 57's , 2 58's , and over 5 diff Behrs . They all sound great even after all these years with regular use in my studio .
Great honest review. Behringer products do have a place, but you get what you pay for. In my cover band days (driving over many parts of Ireland at weekends) we used Behringer noise gates and compressors on drums, did the job but at the back of my mind I was always afraid they would break. As for their mics, handy to have as a backup, however we never needed to use a backup, as our 57s and 58s never let us down. Even the beta 58 which is supposed to be less reliable never missed a beat and covered many miles on the road. Buy cheap, buy twice.
I’m actually shocked how different the two sound, the Behringer has way more high end in its response. It’s way more noticeable than I anticipated it being.
People remove the wax potted Transformer from the Shure, and it sounds the same. If the head basket freely rotated on the Behringer, it would enable Friedman technique... A shame.
Ha! That was absolutely fantastic 😂 problem is behringer could have had a seriously good budget product, but then let their marketing department get ahold of it and tried to push it as a copy... If they just let it be a product all on its own I think it sounds surprisingly good (for the price).
the SL75C sounded pretty good on those solos, and I'm listening through laptop speakers with the rain outside, so obviously I'm getting the best playback possible
I love the way you get up at the end to show your true opinion of them.....half-dressed which means the SL75C is WHOLE-ASSed in the audio department. PASS ON IT! Of course, Glenn shows he has a future in corporate shilling if he ever decides to flex his vocal talents!
Personally, ive been using the Behringer. Also have a sm57 and 58, among others. Its not the #1 mic ever, but its certainly serviceable and usable. Handy on a tom, or overhead(if its all i had) or room mic. Not at all bad on guitar, or snare. Better options, but not bad. And the price, you can get 2 and youll probably use them. Buying a bunch of 57s or similar is expensive.
Damn skinny Glenn is looking good in a suit and tie ahaha. The keys jingling got all the Bass players to pay attention. All that and no dance without any pants bummer...aha
Honest. I want a sm57. I have considered others, but they are not the same. My SM58 has lasted me over 20 years and still going strong even after my kid stepped on it. Glenn is right, the Behringer would be great for on stage, on jam night, for other people to use!
Hey Brad! Big fan of yours, here! About the SM57, it depends what you use it for. You can get very good results if you find the perfect spot where to place it and, if needed, you can always use some EQ to get rid of those 350Hz to 450Hz that make some sources sound "boxy" and add some top end frequencies....but you know all this! I've seen your videos, you're a smart guy, so that's why I was surprised when I read your comment.
There are better mics for all applications than the 57. The Audix D6 is a better kick mic, the Lewitt DTP 440 DM is a better snare mic, the Telefunken M80's are better tom mics, the ATM 450 and Warm Audio 87's are better cymbal and room mics, the SM7B is a better vocal mic, MXL makes better mics for acoustic instruments, ect. The difference is that the SM57 is one of the only mics that sound atleast pretty good in almost all situations, which can't be said for the others. I've even heard of 57's used on kicks (not in metal, though. I think it was old R&B or something similar).
I should mention, I completely agree with you. I'm just saying the sole selling point of the 57 is that you'll save money, since you won't have to buy 30 different mics.
I will say this: when I was 16 years old, I wish I could take the 100 bucks that took me forever to save up and use that money to get 5 of these mics and be able to record a whole drumkit as well as two guitar amps at the same time instead of getting only one Shure SM57! Do they sound like an SM57? No but with some clever EQ, you can get pretty close.
Behringer cheap mics seem to have extremely bad qa, according to reviews being very inconsistent in sound and functionality. Expect a 50% chance of getting a broken product from their extreme budget line.
The headbasket spinning has a purpose. It makes it able to take more abuse. If the mic takes a fall or gets hit by a drumstick it has some give so it won't crack.
dude there is that if you live in 3rd world country its not inexpensive for you im from turkey and i cant afford a sm57 and its probably same for chinese people and those are the people who making the product.
3 years ago I bought 3 or 4 Behringer SM58 ripoffs just so to have some mikes for backing vocals in my band. Only one of those mikes still works. Turns out they are extremely fragile and if it is dropped on the ground, there's a high chance it won't work ever again. If you need a cheap mic, get a Samson. It turned out a lot better.
I always feel like the Shure SM57 & 58 is every home recorders perfect duo. Good quality for good prices and a LOT of professionals use them as well so that says a lot
Hey Glenn, im rewatching this video cause I did an SM57 vs SL75 test just yesterday and the sound difference was of course gigantic. Must say I also tried the SL75 as the angled mic for the Fredman technique and it honestly added a really nice tone
75C is definitely a viable alternative if you're a gigging musician and doesn't mind pulling back the treble for significant amount but yeah it's just too piercing compared to the workhorse that is SM57.
I actually kind of liked a bit of the high end prescence the behringer added. To me the bite it added wasn't too harsh and worked for the metal mix especially on the lead guitar. I think using it for a cone sound and then blending it with warmer Ribbon or Condenser might sound great for a heavy rock or metal tone. Overall didn't think it was a terrible sound at all for a mic that is 1/5 the price of an SM57.

on youtube mp3 compression, which really doesn't do the SM57's quality over the Behringer justice.

I would definitely buy an SL75C For live performances. It doubles as a hammer.
