As an Imperial Guard player who converted my own Harker, Straken, Commissar Yarrick, Astropath, and Master of Ordinance this sucks. I loved converting my own characters for my Guard Regiment, and it hurts to lose characters that I spent so much time building, converting, and painting.
We're a long ways past the era in which GW encouraged conversions and creativity, friend. Now is the age of 'Buy the box, Make the box, Play the box, Nothing else' and having to re-buy things regularly.
GW has been shoving a hard wedge in-between 40K and Horus Heresy. We'll be seeing the Malcador Infernus and Marauders in plastic for sure as Solar Auxilia units, but only getting Legends rules for 40K.

A squad of jungle fighters was the first IG unit I ever got way back in like 2003. I'll admit I've found a weird amusement in watching them never get updated even after all this time. Another funny thing they could do would be tease a bunch of gas mask iconography to get people hyped for new Krieg stuff but then release an entire new Steel Legion range instead.
The Space Marine Recruit Box set is such a hell no in terms of price. Remove 10 gaunts and replace them with 5 paint, but then charge 25$ more compared to the Target SM2 box price of 40$?
The paints are the exact same ones that they sell off the shelf . You can get a bit of a rebate on that box set by exchanging those paints and using the exchange value of the 5 paints towards something you actually want.

I feel space marines are getting fucked over in a diferent way. Theres barely any hype for space marine releases. They just remove the firstborn varient that everyone likes and then replace it with a primaris version nobody cares for.

The crappy stat lines for Eldar infantry is because GW can't write rules for shit and 10th is a radioactive garbage fire. I very strongly suspect that Jain Zar and Maugan Ra will still be available as they have new sculpts, the others have been removed because they are releasing new models for them with the new wave of Eldar releases in 2025 . . . allegedly except for Karandras, because the rumour is they actually forgot him. Which does kind of sum up how GW treat Eldar in general.
My local store was open late the friday before and a lot of people were saying they would come back the next day to get one of the 5 boxes. Saturday noone showed up and only two boxes were sold because two regulars only wanted to buy them when some were left at the end of the day. So weird.
I own a lot of the Eldar models on the removed list. I'll still run them as legends in casual games, or as proxies for their plastic cousins. The only thing that really irks, is that the Imperial Knights get 20 odd types. But Eldar can't have 3? So. Very. Cold GW.
I made sure to get a lynx before the inevitable cull. Although I will be eagerly waiting for the Eldar codex to drop and all those tournament players to start shifting their shadow spectres, since 10th I haven't played GW rules anyway so I hope to be able to pick some up at a reasonable price.

Malcadors are in Horus Heresy,. so they will be taking it away since GW wants nothing in HH to be in 40k, and vice versa. It's shit, but thats what they're doing.
If they wipe out Straken I'm going to be pissed. I love the Straken model and what he's always done for the Guard. I also run a themed Catachan army with great success.

The titus box: Titus, 10 termas and 1 absorberswarm 5 Colors, brush, stuff cost 55 €. And the other box which only sold at retailers cost 30 € for titus, 20 termangants 2 absorber and stuff like dices and board. for 55 € you nearly get 2 for 30€
I wish GW would figure out that they can actually profit from 3D printing and sell STLs for the Forge World ranges they've removed where it's not economically viable to get new tooling to make them in plastic. But they'd probably try to implement some bizarre one-print-per-purchase DRM somehow... :(
I’m considering returning to 40k since my middle school days… that was when 3rd edition was the game. What factions/subfactions seem to stand the test of time in terms of game rules? I don’t mean the meta, I mean, not having units or weapons deleted from the game or have rules make your army not legal? I’d like anything I build to have more likelihood of still being legal for 11th edition and beyond
The core of the major factions has endured pretty well, except for (ironically) Space Marines. In the case of Eldar, it wasn’t just the same units, but in many cases the same exact models, that are still around from the old days. I think we’re in a period where they are reorganizing their ranges and finally retiring all the Finecast. I don’t expect as much radical change to happen over the next few editions once this process is done.
@@Ultrajamz I don't think they will, though. Orks, Chaos Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Necrons, and Tyranids all received major refreshes that brought their ranges entirely or almost entirely up to date. In the process a few models were lost (mostly named characters), but some of those, like the Chaos Lord with Jump Pack, were later rereleased with a new model. There's very little old stuff to retire at this point, except the remaining Eldar units that we know are due for an update early next year.
Straken and Harker going COULD be a good sign. Other models have disappeared only to be refreshed sooner or later. Fingers crossed they are going to give us those characters back eventually.
I got the last Hornet, Shadow Spectres and Scorpion from Warhammer World and was very happy for it. Glad also I’m actually modelling them and it didn’t go to an eBay seller grifter.
The lack of 40k support and releases has me in a "boycott spending on gw atm" feeling. Mabe after the start of year it won't be so bad. But for now my hobby cash is going elsewhere.

@@sumisu_senpai_6280 I buy all my models 2nd hand from a site called troll trader, I'm in America and I average about 1/3 off retail buying from them. You do need to check it regularly if you're looking for something specific, but they add models every weekday.
@sumisu_senpai_6280 etsy is my go too. hot about 3000 points of necrons all bulid for about 300 bucks. comapred to gw prices it would have been like 4grand. and i didnt have to bulid them. some sellers to recasts, witch are identical to 40k models, and some do there own version witch look slightly different. both are cheap. many sellers offer pre-built options as well. youll have to sift through a lot of crap to find the talented 3d printing studios, but once you do its so worth it.
Shadow Spectres are a huge blow to Aeldari's identity and maybe the biggest blow out of all miniature removals ever. Aspect Warriors are the heart of an Aeldari army and very central to their identity. Let's hope for a plastic kit that includes the Phoenix Lord as an alternate build option. They should do this with all Aspect Warriors as it seems they have huge trouble maintaining the character models for Aeldari as well. I still have the Codex with Nuadhu Fireheart (Saim-Hann leader) and Iyanna Arienal (Iyanden leader) who never even got models :D

They want to cater to tournament players who constantly buy new models to chase the meta. They don’t want to allow anything in the game that they don’t currently sell. The era of the game where hobbyists slowly built armies over years and got attached to them are long gone.
Money aside, they also can't realistically produce enough from their one factory- there's not enough machines nor time to produce the sheer quantity of models, some stripping back is to be expected as their other ranges expand

The majority of the player first hobbyist second crowd wants the uber balance and that’s impossible with a massive range, especially when some things aren’t always available. But I do miss the day of knowing my minis would always have some rule support and not worry about them being optimal or not.

It definitely will, at least if it is also in Heresy (which I think it is?). GW obviously have a policy of making sure you can't play both games with the same set of models.
@@dilbob454 only if you play competitive games or mostly pick-up games with strangers. If you have a regular play group then I am sure you can get them to agree to the legends rules for now. When 11th comes along you may need to get creative but it shouldn't be too hard to create your own rules for it, and if you have friends with their own forge world units it should be easy to reach a reciprocal agreement. Just remember: these are your toys, and GW can only tell you how to play with them if you let them.
Hearing how the recruit edition is going, maybe I should be buying up those Target boxes and reselling Titus to outside the US customers and fund an endless swarm army…
The jump packs season of Kill Team is not happening. Valrak was wrong about that. Only one half of Hivestorm can actually fly & that’s balanced by them being glass cannons. Flying is very OP in Kill Team - they’re not going to throw 4-6 new teams of flyers into the mix because it would utterly destroy game balance.

Had a look and Sly Marbo is still there, although it is temporary out of stock. Ratlings might still be there due to a Rumor Valrak heard that one of the kill team box sets will be Ratling and Ogryns vs.... I can't remember. 🤣 But that might be why they are still there, for now.

All the Phoenix Lords being removed is shocking. I didn't think they'd update ALL of them. If they think they're gonna get away with removing the Phoenix Lords tho, they've got another thing coming to them dear lord.
I converted one and am about 2/3 of the way through painting it . . . fortunately I don't play 10th anyway, easily my least favourite edition (out of the ones I have played, which is 2nd and then 8th - 10th).
The eldar just got decimated. Lost all heavy tank options, an entire aspect warrior caste, all their phoenix lords except the two garbage ones but the most frustrating to me is Illic Nightspear bevause he was one of the most interesting characters in terms of ability able to make rangers actually cool and threatening.
Seeing those FW models go is heart-breaking, Guard have gotten so many 'mid' kits since 6th ed and now were losing basically all our best looking models.

I'm not a guard player. I play Tyranids and World eaters. But come on give the guard some love. Colonial Schaeffers Last Chancers for Killteam. Ironguard, Ice Warriors, Desert Raiders and Proper Gaunts Ghosts, plastic guard. Also we need a Straken and friends as a Sitcom.

I'm new to warhammer 40k from a table top perspective. Decided to go with guard. Tank guard. I wanted a few malcador (plus variants), a macharius, and Krieg boys (vraks is epic. But at the time that was way to expensive. Now I guess I'm not gonna be able to get most of that stuff. I'm gonna try to get a macharius at least for my collection. But I missed out on the malcador defender. I'm just very demoralized, most of the models I was planning to get tank wise are gone now. I've got a bunch of cadian inf, some Krieg inf, a leman russ, a chimera, and a crassus armoured transport (loved painting that one Cool project) and I'm wondering if I should even Continue the hobby. Been thinking about jumping old world as I've loved fantasy since I was in high school or bolt action simce I love history. Idk.

if you buy 2 target sm box for 40$ you get more than 1 sm recruit box.

My local store was open late the friday before and a lot of people were saying they would come back the next day to get one of the 5 boxes. Saturday noone showed up and only two boxes were sold because two regulars only wanted to buy them when some were left at the end of the day. So weird.

I own a lot of the Eldar models on the removed list. I'll still run them as legends in casual games, or as proxies for their plastic cousins. The only thing that really irks, is that the Imperial Knights get 20 odd types. But Eldar can't have 3? So. Very. Cold GW.

Had put off buying the Eldar stuff due to money and the backlog, but now it appears I've missed out. Always wanted the Cobra and Scorpion... Shame.
I made sure to get a lynx before the inevitable cull. Although I will be eagerly waiting for the Eldar codex to drop and all those tournament players to start shifting their shadow spectres, since 10th I haven't played GW rules anyway so I hope to be able to pick some up at a reasonable price.

Malcadors are in Horus Heresy,. so they will be taking it away since GW wants nothing in HH to be in 40k, and vice versa. It's shit, but thats what they're doing.

The titus box: Titus, 10 termas and 1 absorberswarm 5 Colors, brush, stuff cost 55 €. And the other box which only sold at retailers cost 30 € for titus, 20 termangants 2 absorber and stuff like dices and board. for 55 € you nearly get 2 for 30€
I wish GW would figure out that they can actually profit from 3D printing and sell STLs for the Forge World ranges they've removed where it's not economically viable to get new tooling to make them in plastic. But they'd probably try to implement some bizarre one-print-per-purchase DRM somehow... :(
Recasters already have all these models, so not a big deal. If GW (FW) doesn't need my money, I can give it to somebody else.
I’m considering returning to 40k since my middle school days… that was when 3rd edition was the game. What factions/subfactions seem to stand the test of time in terms of game rules? I don’t mean the meta, I mean, not having units or weapons deleted from the game or have rules make your army not legal? I’d like anything I build to have more likelihood of still being legal for 11th edition and beyond
The core of the major factions has endured pretty well, except for (ironically) Space Marines. In the case of Eldar, it wasn’t just the same units, but in many cases the same exact models, that are still around from the old days.
I think we’re in a period where they are reorganizing their ranges and finally retiring all the Finecast. I don’t expect as much radical change to happen over the next few editions once this process is done.

Orks, Chaos Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Necrons, and Tyranids all received major refreshes that brought their ranges entirely or almost entirely up to date. In the process a few models were lost (mostly named characters), but some of those, like the Chaos Lord with Jump Pack, were later rereleased with a new model. There's very little old stuff to retire at this point, except the remaining Eldar units that we know are due for an update early next year.
Straken and Harker going COULD be a good sign. Other models have disappeared only to be refreshed sooner or later. Fingers crossed they are going to give us those characters back eventually.
I got the last Hornet, Shadow Spectres and Scorpion from Warhammer World and was very happy for it. Glad also I’m actually modelling them and it didn’t go to an eBay seller grifter.
The lack of 40k support and releases has me in a "boycott spending on gw atm" feeling.
Mabe after the start of year it won't be so bad. But for now my hobby cash is going elsewhere.
i haven't spent a dime on gw in 3 years. you can get identical 3d prints for half the price, and they even come built already.

@@sumisu_senpai_6280 I buy all my models 2nd hand from a site called troll trader, I'm in America and I average about 1/3 off retail buying from them. You do need to check it regularly if you're looking for something specific, but they add models every weekday.
@sumisu_senpai_6280 etsy is my go too. hot about 3000 points of necrons all bulid for about 300 bucks. comapred to gw prices it would have been like 4grand. and i didnt have to bulid them. some sellers to recasts, witch are identical to 40k models, and some do there own version witch look slightly different. both are cheap. many sellers offer pre-built options as well. youll have to sift through a lot of crap to find the talented 3d printing studios, but once you do its so worth it.

Shadow Spectres are a huge blow to Aeldari's identity and maybe the biggest blow out of all miniature removals ever. Aspect Warriors are the heart of an Aeldari army and very central to their identity. Let's hope for a plastic kit that includes the Phoenix Lord as an alternate build option. They should do this with all Aspect Warriors as it seems they have huge trouble maintaining the character models for Aeldari as well. I still have the Codex with Nuadhu Fireheart (Saim-Hann leader) and Iyanna Arienal (Iyanden leader) who never even got models :D

I collected Eldar during second edition. Always thought the Exodite Dragon Knights would be good. They never got a range.

They want to cater to tournament players who constantly buy new models to chase the meta. They don’t want to allow anything in the game that they don’t currently sell.
The era of the game where hobbyists slowly built armies over years and got attached to them are long gone.
Money aside, they also can't realistically produce enough from their one factory- there's not enough machines nor time to produce the sheer quantity of models, some stripping back is to be expected as their other ranges expand

It definitely will, at least if it is also in Heresy (which I think it is?). GW obviously have a policy of making sure you can't play both games with the same set of models.

@@dilbob454 only if you play competitive games or mostly pick-up games with strangers. If you have a regular play group then I am sure you can get them to agree to the legends rules for now. When 11th comes along you may need to get creative but it shouldn't be too hard to create your own rules for it, and if you have friends with their own forge world units it should be easy to reach a reciprocal agreement. Just remember: these are your toys, and GW can only tell you how to play with them if you let them.
Hearing how the recruit edition is going, maybe I should be buying up those Target boxes and reselling Titus to outside the US customers and fund an endless swarm army…

The jump packs season of Kill Team is not happening. Valrak was wrong about that. Only one half of Hivestorm can actually fly & that’s balanced by them being glass cannons. Flying is very OP in Kill Team - they’re not going to throw 4-6 new teams of flyers into the mix because it would utterly destroy game balance.

for the titus box, in germany we got a box for 30 euros which includes NO paints but 23 (?) models and titus, called space marine 2 board game
the hornet is my favorite eldar model I really hope this means they are making it plastic, but I am not holding out much hope.

Ratlings might still be there due to a Rumor Valrak heard that one of the kill team box sets will be Ratling and Ogryns vs.... I can't remember. 🤣
But that might be why they are still there, for now.

I converted one and am about 2/3 of the way through painting it . . . fortunately I don't play 10th anyway, easily my least favourite edition (out of the ones I have played, which is 2nd and then 8th - 10th).
The eldar just got decimated. Lost all heavy tank options, an entire aspect warrior caste, all their phoenix lords except the two garbage ones but the most frustrating to me is Illic Nightspear bevause he was one of the most interesting characters in terms of ability able to make rangers actually cool and threatening.
Grabbed a few 13:15 of these on clearance at Target. Really worth it.
I feel like we’re probably not getting new Straken/Harker models anytime soon considering GW seems to want to focus on Dethkorp this time.
Each update this edition just feels awful :/ , all the interesting bits get sandblasted off each army. rip my poor Catachans
GW did state that they will at some point later on release Titus on his own, so it's just a case of being patient.....
Seeing those FW models go is heart-breaking, Guard have gotten so many 'mid' kits since 6th ed and now were losing basically all our best looking models.
I managed to pick up the last space marine recruit box set at my local GW store (opened at 10, got there at 10:30)for £37. Idk how many there were but it seemed pretty popular.
I'm not a guard player. I play Tyranids and World eaters. But come on give the guard some love. Colonial Schaeffers Last Chancers for Killteam. Ironguard, Ice Warriors, Desert Raiders and Proper Gaunts Ghosts, plastic guard. Also we need a Straken and friends as a Sitcom.

I'm new to warhammer 40k from a table top perspective. Decided to go with guard. Tank guard. I wanted a few malcador (plus variants), a macharius, and Krieg boys (vraks is epic. But at the time that was way to expensive. Now I guess I'm not gonna be able to get most of that stuff. I'm gonna try to get a macharius at least for my collection. But I missed out on the malcador defender. I'm just very demoralized, most of the models I was planning to get tank wise are gone now. I've got a bunch of cadian inf, some Krieg inf, a leman russ, a chimera, and a crassus armoured transport (loved painting that one Cool project) and I'm wondering if I should even Continue the hobby. Been thinking about jumping old world as I've loved fantasy since I was in high school or bolt action simce I love history. Idk.
Get recasts or a 3d printer mate. No reason to give GW money if they won't take it lol.
