I have not checked out the other Mercadian Masques theme decks but these look pretty tame compared to a lot of the great theme decks out there! Also i have to say, for some reason Green seems to be my least favorite color! Great video
11:38 I think Natural Affinity works a little different than you interpreted it. You said it doesn’t give haste to your lands, so you can’t just attack out of nowhere. You can attack right away with your lands using Natural Affinity, though. Similar to vehicles or man-lands, these can attack without haste. It doesn’t change the quality of the deck by much, I just think it warrants mentioning.
you're absolutely right, just went back and watched it and no idea what I was thinking. Complete brainfart moment. But I wouldn't be a MtG content creator if I didn't get some rules wrong occasionally!
My first ever Magic deck. Brought on release day: if only I had gone in a day or two earlier I’d probably have walked away with one of the pretty solid Saga block stompy decks instead. Probably makes for a better anecdote this way though: out of all the other decks which would have been on the shelves at that time I picked this one! Nostalgia aside, it’s apparent looking back they this isn’t a great deck, even when compared to the new baseline of the other Masques block decks. It’s just too… average. Fine in your words. It’s not fast enough to be a fast deck. Creatures aren’t big enough to be a big creature deck. Nothing is efficient enough to be midrange. It’s not bad in a “what were they thinking” way, green creatures and red spells is a classic strategy, but it’s just… fine. I think my favourite card in here were the ants: I definitely tried to build a couple decks around exploiting that ability. But the Wolverine is really solid design for a one drop: most the time it didn’t get blocked because it’d take out a lot of the creatures my mates normally played! Vine Trellis is a real solid ramp creature too. Surprised it hasn’t been reprinted more, only in 8th and a couple dual decks, as it’s a perfect card for an Edition or Core Set. After I’d picked up a couple more precons, a few boosters and had a rummage through the bulk commons box at my LGS, these were probably the 3 cards from it which I was still using in my decks. Out of your suggestions Invigorate is definitely in a few other precons this block. Snorting Ghar and Furious Assault are each in at least one too from memory. I actually own 6 out of the 12 decks in this block, and think I probably previously owned 2 or 3 more. Well: I’ve decided to put together the full set and there’s 3 which are over 3/4 complete with just cards out of my collection so I assume that’s because I’d have had then back then. Bring on the next couple weeks of vids! :)
That’s basically the idea! I originally wanted one theme deck from each old bordered set that had them, including at least one of each monocolour and two colour combination, but I seem to have got a bit carried away… I may have coughthirtyninecough either fully playable (about half) or as a partially constructed pile of cards on my desk.

I love the idea of reassembling these old decks and making a kind of precon cube!

Nice!
