Make easy changes to G-code and start CNC files from specific lines

  • Knowing how to manually insert or remove a line from the G-code your design software produced could save you some time (and money if you are smarter than I am). Another time saver is knowing how to start a cut file from a specific point. If you use ShopBot products and want to know how to do both, you've found the right video. #CNC #gcode #bukbord
*EDIT* The file shown in this video is actually in OpenSBP format. A number of CNC brands use it besides ShopBot, but it isn't identical to G-code. It is very close. However, as I stated in the video, all these tips would work with any system or file. You just need to look up the right commands and save it in the correct format.
I talk a lot so if you want skip the mumbo jumbo...

is there any way to change the size of the Gcode file from with in grbl_9

Sorry, friend. I can't say I've ever used grbl to mod any code. Even so, I don't know exactly what you mean by "size". Are you trying to reduce the actual scale of the project you're outputting? Or reduce the file size? Having never been exposed to it, I wouldn't be the guy to ask, but there are very vast, active forums of users online that I bet could help you with your question. Good luck!

I suppose you could change Z from zero to +1 in the last two lines, instead.

True. I should have mentioned that. You could potentially run into problems with that solution if the piece you're cutting is already near the max thickness of your machine's z-height. But if you've got room, like I did here, that would work fine too.

Thank you for the feedback. You are absolutely right. But the two are very similar, and I figured most viewers have heard of G-code, so I went with it. And I do say that the process shown is specific to ShopBot users, but applicable to just about anyone else. I could output my toolpaths as a G-code *.tap file and my CNC would run it. I could also go in and add a line of code to that file just like how I showed. I don't think people will be too confused, but I will make a couple edits to the description and comment just to be sure. Thanks again!
