    My view of best choice:
    - Establish Peace between the factions and send the girl home safe and sound after making her realize she isn’t a synth.

I always end up playing a good guy character, I think part of it is because the voice acting and backstory encourages you to play a morally good character. But I can never get myself to kill all the raiders at Nuka world, it pretty much defeats the purpose of the DLC and prevents you from getting some of the best perks in the game

    • @ArturoEz
      @ArturoEz 4 роки тому +8

My Minuteman general is more of a chaotic than lawful alignment, so she was more than ready to nuke the nucleus, but after interacting with the CoA and seeing that they’re just people trying to survive as everyone else, getting ride of Tectus was a no brainer, because without his ideologies the children are peaceful. Too bad for Tectus to arrive with bodyguards, so after giving him Dima’s regards, my general carries the same guilt that she has after dispatching a raider, Tectus was a ticking bomb not only for far harbor, but for the nucleus also, so killing him to ensure the security of the people living in the island was no different than killing a raider team.

    • @JeroenDoes
      @JeroenDoes 4 роки тому +8

Best ending is bringing dima to justice and nuking the children of atom.
The children are unstable destroying your own integrity by replacing a human with a synth is a short term solution before tensions reapear. Kicking the ball down the road.
For long term peace either the children or far harbor need to go. And while distrustfull the people of far harbor are the better option.
(Replacing tactus does not only kill him but also a innocent synth. This is capital letter E evil)

The faction I sided with in each play through determined my choices in Far Harbor...
As a Minutemen General, I convinced Dima to turn himself in as I believed he must face justice for his crimes, but peace between Far Harbor and Acadia remained as I helped Far Harbor take back their land. I also destroyed the Nucleus as I saw them as a threat to my Island Settlements.
As a Railroad agent I helped Dima replace Tektus with a Synth and bring peace to all because as a member of the Railroad, I believe in Synths, and a Far Harbor Island under the control of a Synth is best for all Synths.
In my BOS play through I helped Far Harbor destroy Acadia and then destroyed the Nucleus because as a BOS Sentinel I believe in the superiority of humans, that Synths are a Menace and must be destroyed, and that Radiation worshipping psychopaths have no place in this world.
For my evil Institute play through I helped Far Harbor destroy Acadia, then turned off the Wind Turbine and allowed the Fog to swallow the Island because I believe the surface is lost, and the sooner it’s cleansed of surface dwellers, the better. The Children of Atom shall do that dirty work for the Institute, then once they are all that’s left, the Institute shall rise and rebuild anew.

    • @ReallyKeepingFictional

      Late comment, but...
I mirrored these in most of my playthroughs. Though there were a few outliers.
-Playing a Child of Atom build that associated with the Minutemen (mostly for the settlement building so, in-roleplay, that the Atomites piggyback off the MM's drive to unify the Commonwealth), I did nothing for Far Harbor and helped them destroy Acadia (even encouraged it to further sow dissent), then used the Wind Farm Kill Switch to destroy them in turn. Glory to Atom!
-Playing a Raider Overboss build that associated with the Institute. Destroyed the Atomites, helped Far Harbor destroy Acadia, then wiped them out. Overboss is too busy taking over the Commonwealth with his Raiders from Nuka-World to bother with some little spit of land up north.

Could be argued that the Nucleus is so far separate from the Commonwealth, and the Atomites there have to constantly fight off Raiders, Super Mutants, etc., and don't have a centralized base, thus they are more tribal in nature and so, more hostile to non-Atomites.

The Minutemen are already enemies with the Children of Atom in the Commonwealth - largely because you annexed Kingsport Lighthouse from the Children of Atom. And then attacked the nearby Crater house. So, a Minutemen allied ending would be one where DiMa surrenders but Acadia is spared because you helped Mitch, Bertha and Dalton take settlements and helped the Mariner fortify the island. So we get the “shut up Allen” scene. And then blow up the Nucleus b using your Charisma as the General to convince Tektus to commit mass suicide.
And in the end, you have a more morally clean Acadia as well as new settlements.

    Reformation
Only available if you settled matters peacefully with DiMA and agreed to his plans. Visit Martin’s radiation-filled sanctuary and take the two holo tapes - one on the desk and another by the bed. Return them to DiMA, then say you’re ready and travel to the Nucleus. You’ll need to finish the What Atom Requires side quest to proceed, if you haven’t already. Tell Tektus about the tape and play it for him, then meet him in the maintenance tunnels of the Command Center. You can persuade him to run away rather than kill him, if you’d prefer. Return to DiMA and have a chat to end the story and receive a perk that boosts damage resistance at low health. All factions coexist in peace. Stop by the Nucleus one more time to chat things over with Tektus Mk 2, if you like.

Instead of thinking about factions, I think more about my character and what they would do. For example, If I was the general of the minute men, it is fairly obvious to my characters mind that synths are also people from playing the regular game. Dima did what he thought needed to be done so I respected him for his decision. So replacement of atoms leader was a fairly obvious choice. In my current build my character is an addict that doesn't care about anything but caps and getting his fix. Deep down he is a good guy but defines himself as an addict over anything else. So I'm thinking that as of right now he is more towards Far Harbor or the nucleus. I think the nucleus due to hallucinogenic water, but I like far harbor due to more sellers of drugs.

If this subject came down to a committee vote within each faction, I think they’d fall within the same lines Oshorn laid out. Institute would capture the Synths and leave. The BOS would destroy Acadia and lean towards destroying the Nucleus. The Minutemen would likely push for DiMA to face justice, though where they go from there is fuzzy. The Railroad would be more on board with replacing Tektus, though I can imagine it would cause some grumbling.
That’s all well and good, but which outcome results in a net-benefit for the Island? I still push for the destruction of the Nucleus, but I’m curious to see if Ox’s opinion has changed in the past few years.

  • @thadsaylor8726

I'd honestly say Oxhorn has the minutemen and the railroad switched, cause the minutemen is a much more grounded group. Their goals are based around saving as many good people trying to survive the apocalypse as possible, which can lead to a pragmatic view on the issue, trading one life for many. Meanwhile the railroad is much more extreme in its views, where the see prosecution of synths everywhere, saying the people of the commonwealth will always hate synths when nick in diamond city proves otherwise. So I think the railroad would take Dima's crime of wiping the synth Avery for his own benefit much more seriously, since regardless of that synth's individuality, Dima essentially treated them as a tool just like the institute does. So the railroad would seek justice not for the real Avery but for the synth he used.

I personally went with the option of justice for Dima, Nuclear Ascension for the Children, and otherwise leaving the people of Far Harbor be (albeit with trade routes opened up back to the Commonwealth. The Children were, at the most fundamentally pragmatic level, the easiest answer; their belief would likely see them to Division eventually, anyway, so it felt reasonable to simply help them on their way, however misguided it may be. It also removes their presence from the island, which allows the people of Far Harbor to breathe a little easier. Having Dima answer for his actions was the only right choice in my mind by virtue of the fact that if he wants a peace to develop between Acadia and Far Harbor, the best road to it is to cease unethical and immoral actions, and allow someone else to step up to lead Acadia in his place. Far Harbor, meanwhile, doesn't have much in the way of choices to make about it beyond working to preserve it. So I helped out the citizens to try and reclaim a bit of the island, for however long that hold lasts.

The best ending is bringing DiMA to justice, making sure Alan Lee doesn't convince Far Harbor to destroy Acadia, and then destroy the Nucleus. A peaceful outcome is not always the best outcome. That's the same reason I don't think the "Minutemen+Railroad+Brotherhood" ending in Fallout 4 is the best ending, as it seems just delaying the inevitable (plus, one could argue its not a true ending since the Brotherhood gives you quest as if you destroyed the Railroad, and the Railroad gives quest as if you destroyed the Brotherhood)

The first time i played through on my first character, I did a Brotherhood ending in main game, but did Far Harbor after main quest. I know the Brotherhood would want Acadia destroyed, but since the technology to make Synths was lost when i destroyed the Institute, I decided to leave it be. I ended up destroying the children of atom because i passed the speech check to convince them to embrace division. i don't regret that choice mostly because it was a high ideal for the children to want division, and if the brotherhood believes the synths at large to be a neutralized threat then there's no reason to tell them about Acadia, since DiMA doesn't seem to know how to make more Synths and never showed interest in making more anyways. They're just People now, trying to make their way in this world

There are still people around who could reverse engineer synths and start production again. Could be rogue ex-Institute/BoS scientists or somebody like the Mechanist or Mr. House. The fact that DiMA never talked to the player about producing more synths doesn't mean that he doesn't plan to do that. He hides a lot of dirty secrets and thinks everything he does is always right and ethical. So Arcadia must be destroyed completely as the existence of even a single synth is a threat to the whole of humanity.

My typical minuteman playthrough is bringing DiMa to justice, then talking Lee down from invading Acadia. Despite the wrong DiMa did, Acadia is innocent as a whole, unaware of what he did, on top of the fact they need Acadia to power the fog condensers and keep their inland settlements safe. In this case, DiMa answered for his crimes, and Far Harbor keeps their condensers working so they can live.
I never did the "replace Tektus" move... may try that next.

An interesting angle for the Brotherhood would be to use Far Harbour to wipe out Arcadia - The Brotherhood gets what it wants without having to use any of its own soldiers or resources, & the Children of Atom pose no direct threat to them anyway. (Similar to how a member of the Brotherhood praises the Sole Survivor for using the Minutemen to destroy the Institute, rather than needing to bring Liberty Prime in)

I agree with your analysis of what the factions would do and how they would end this. There are a few additional things I consider for a roleplay perspective. 1. Did I come with Nick? If I did and am playing a minuteman or railroad character how could I betray my friend and companion by giving up his brother to Allan Lee. The other thing I consider affects my minuteman character 2. How truly hostile the Children of Atom are. It's fairly clear to me that the true believers of Atoms faith will attack settlers from my time in the commonwealth. This can happen in random encounters at a few locations (looking at your Kings port lighthouse and just south west of Corvega) the Children of Atom in large numbers are hostile to non believers. The only group this isnt true for are in Fallout 3 and the Crater in the glowing sea. I would pose that a general of the minuteman could understand this danger and act in such a way as to convince Dima of their threat and then to protect Far Harbor with the children's sad but ultimately necessary destruction. But like you say Oz "that is just one man's humble opinion." I am interested in differing views.

I chose the Acadia ending for one reason.
Dima knows what he did was wrong, killing a human, replacing them with a synth and hiding it from everybody....even himself. While the institute did the same thing countless times and reasoned that its for the good of the commonwealth.
I did feel wrong that I was sparring a murderer but at the same time, far harbor needed someone to calm them down. (The only person I wanted to kill was Alan lee for all his antagonistic behavior)
I understand tectus’s hatred at far harbor for killing one of their own but to kill everyone in the pier in monstrous.
Also another reason for Acadia ending is that the Mother Of The Fog said”Bring Peace”
If I had to rank the leaders of each faction on an alignment chart it would be....
    Dima-neutral good
    Tectus-chaotic evil
    Avery-lawful good

I played Fudgemuppet's Crusader build, who was both Brotherhood of Steel and Children of Atom. He was indoctrinated into the Children during a mission to the Island and so destroyed Far Harbor, justifying it as Atom's will, but also as a practical means to an end; at least one person on the docks had been replaced to serve Diima's will, who's to say several more hadn't been over the years? Purging the town was the only way to be sure that the taint of the Institute was truly wiped clean...
And upon returning to the mainland, he reported Acadia to Captain Kells, and lead the Brotherhood on a raid to wipe out the Synths, while keeping the location of the Nucleus to himself.
Atom's Kingdom now truly belongs to His Children...

My first playthrough, I sided with Dima. I was roleplaying as an institute and minuteman character. I believed that was the best combination to help the Commonwealth. I chose to allow Acadia to keep existing, with it being understood that I coupd pull the plug at any moment if Dima steps out of line. I viewed it as an experiment, a chance to see what synths would do if they lived free. I also saw it as a good opportunity to contain rogue synths at a place we can easily find them should we choose to recover them. Plus we can always use the knowledge of where they're going to ambush rogue synths if we wish.
I let Far Harbor and the children of atom live, following Dima's plan. I debated killing Allen Lee as I could foresee him being a troublemaker in the future, but decided against it.

Role playing through this for the first time, I acted as a neutral, competent person who was trying to have a character arc with Valentine who was biased towards any faction. The sole purpose of my being in Far Harbor was to find kasumi and bring her back. My character then went through each faction on the island and in the end found himself wanting peace between everyone because in his eyes, it was possible after talking to DiMA. My character confronted DiMA about the nuclear key and the wind turbine codes and Avery and convinced DiMA if he truly wanted peace, then he’d turn himself in. I had developed any relationships in Far Harbor yet other than one with Avery, so when I was hoping for the best from its people, I was quickly mortified as a mutiny began and they stormed Arcadia. I tried my hardest to convince them it wasn’t worth murdering Arcadia, but my pleads were fruitless. I sat and watched everyone die and couldn’t do anything to stop it. In real time I walked the bloodied halls of Arcadia for 20 mins until I found Kasumis body. It was depressing and in an act of rage and vengeance, I shut down the wind turbines to Far Harbor so the fog could claim more monsters as its own

I played fallout 4 for years without dlcs because the game was so intricately playable and content heavy, evidently just an overall open end explosion of self expressive visual play, and quite the piece of art. It can be overwhelming but the liberty is the reason we are an audience or simply fans, along side the context in plot. Apologies as this comes obviously because it’s been a round for ages, but despite all that the opportunity in the game itself was enough. In actuality, I had never bought any extensions and hadn’t initially noticed having such. An experience. When I finally bought all the dlcs I stopped playing, this just inspires me to comeback and accomplish it all.

Minutemen/Peace route - Like I said in comments for videos before, I think the peace route matches the Minutemen, but it's a complicated choice for sure. However, to ensure there is still peace, I turned all Island settlements into Minutemen base camps. Given how hellish the Island is, someone HAS to police that Island, and with the Minutemen that destroyed the Institute, they have already shown themselves capable. Just make sure to find a lot of gas masks whenever they are on patrol (we don't need more Trappers).

Honestly from watching these videos every time I hear DiMA talk about how bad he feels about the shit he's done I just keep hearing Todd from Bojack Horseman "Oh, great! Of Course! Here it Comes! You can't keep doing this! You can't keep doing shitty things and then feel bad about yourself like that makes it ok!" Honestly if I had the option I would make sure that DiMA is alive but I keep a VERY close eye on him. He wants peace? Fine. Keeping him alive would definitely be better for the long term, it will be his penance for all he's done. His main goal is to keep Acadia and the Synths safe, sure I can get behind that. He's already helped Far Harbor by giving them the condensers and putting the more level headed Avery in charge since she can keep assholes like Allen on a very short leash. As for the Children of Atom, I would honestly wipe them out by making Tektus use the launch key and send them to "Division". Firstly I am not comfortable with the idea of that submarine just sitting there, leaking radiation and potentially making the fog even worse. Second, leaving Tektus alive and banishing him could mean that he could either return with a new congregation thus blowing DiMA's plan with the Synth Tektus or he could spread his nonsense to the rest of the Commonwealth. Thirdly, I have no love for organized religion especially cults like the Children of Atom. In a world that was already fucked over by nukes the last thing it needs is a gang of wackos taking a swim in radiated water and risk increasing the Feral Ghoul population. We've seen the damage these people can do in the Broken Steel DLC for Fallout 3. Last but not least, I am not comfortable with the possibility of someone else discovering the Nucleus, killing all of the Children and then stealing the nuclear material for whatever Saturday morning cartoon villain scheme they've cooked up. So yeah, that's how I would handle them if I wasn't working for the Institute or Brotherhood.

Thank you for making this! What you said in the roleplaying aspect has given me lots to think about. On both my Minutemen and Railroad characters, I'll most likely go with the very last option and send Kasumi home letting her know she's a human. The thing that really made me think before watching this was the justice that would be served. Yes, DiMA should receive justice, but Nick, on both of my characters, is a good friend and killing his brother would wreck him. But on the other hand, I'd have to either kill or banish Tecktus, replacing him with a Synth. As you said, the Minutemen fear that people will be kidnapped and replaced, but to achieve peace, the replacement of Tecktus is necessary. It's something my General will just have to live with the blood on her hands, and my Railroad character will be fine with it, I suppose. :)

The last time I played FO4, I was trying to save as many people (and synths) as possible. Let the factions remain, let everyone (almost everyone) live.
Far Harbor was definitely a priority. Several merchants, cozy place. Arguably the most developed area of the island, a center worth returning to. It will definitely stay, I would never destroy it. Well, DIMA... I saw him as basically good-natured. He focuses on the survival of the island, and on the survival of as many people as possible. Yes, he made mistakes, serious sins. He erased it from his memory because he didn't want to face them. You could say he was a coward. But after the weight of these memories did not weigh on his "soul", he cleared the right path. He strove to maintain a proper relationship with people. I thought about giving up him and his crew either to the Institute or to the BOS. But I couldn't. I didn't get far with the COA. I didn't like their thinking and the whole organization. But I didn't blow them up, but only because I didn't feel like it. Yet. Maybe now.

Honestly, the Railroad doesn't much care for justice for humans. They're about justice for synths, and place the safety of synths above all else. I have no problem believing they would absolutely go the peace route unconditionally, or at least support just wiping out the Children of Atom, and those with anti-synth sentiments in far harbor. They really don't even like the minutemen. They view them as occasionally useful idiots.
The Brotherhood, however, would want to preserve and restore the nucleus, and would send a detachment of troops to wipe out the CoA in order to secure it, and then launch a separate campaign to destroy Acadia.
Since you can go with the peace option and have DiMA surrender(Nick doesn't like this option but understands why it needs to happen), that would be the route the Minutemen would most generally take. Remember that Avery's replacement was done for the same reason we intend to replace Tectus: they were both anti-synth. It could easily be played off as a "greater good" decision regardless of which way you go there. Since hostile factions of CoA are a major problem in the commonwealth, you could even justify just wiping them all out too. Since Preston is a minimize harm type personality though, he'd personally not be happy with that decision, and would probably just go along with the replacement and nothing else. Let's be honest he's the real general, as you're the one taking orders from HIM all game long. You are just his puppet. The 3 way peace option is the best in this light.
I generally go the "just replace Tectus" route because it very neatly resolves all the island's problems peacefully with no real repercussions, and has the maximum rewards. Oh, and you have the option to revealing to Avery that dirty little set of secrets you have. Of course... as a raider... there's nothing stopping you from wiping them all out after the fact anyways...just saying.

I play Fallout very economically, trying to provide the future for the wastelands that would be best in the long run, but foremost maximizing the unique items I get from the singular playthrough. To the end of Fallout 4, I enjoyed your power armor museum and chose what might best fill out the entire collection of those, weapons, clothing, and armor. It just so happens that ending involve allying with my only son and getting a sweet looking X-01 paint. As for the island, the good and goods are maximized in siding with DiMA for peace on the island, but I mentioned the power armor before to say I had to summon the Brotherhood to Mt. Desert Island before destroying them so I might relieve the Knight-Captain of his fusion core and unique power armor.

I enjoy roleplaying a child of atom. I chose to side with Tectus, and if I could I would've taken over the commonwealth for the children of atom. I always thought of them as a more unique version of raider. Basically having the 'family' mindset, while having their zealous beliefs to unite and focus their followers. Tectus had the right idea, in that seeking division would be an afront to atom while having the nuclear sub base, so it would unite and bring the children of atom to an almost religious government state, and would've allowed them to expand and grow the children of atom to unheard of potential. Especially in a post-apocalyptic society, most often people would fall prey to religious societies as humanity did before huge technological booms. I felt it became more realistic to side with Atom on a more 'self care' character.

I honestly think that the Railroad wouldn't object to the idea of destroying both Far Harbor and the Nucleus in order to protect Acadia from the threat they pose.

Something you may not have considered is it is highly likely that a player is the leader of more than one faction. When the player is trying to role play the proper personality of a faction leader, it must be taken into account how this would likely change the outlook of the character in question. Now, the only way I know of to complete the game being the leader of more than one faction is the be the leader of the Minutemen and the leader of one of the other three factions. So the question is, how would this change the decisions the character would make as the "General" starts to gain control of various factions? That, I think is a very deep and long discussion.

Ok, speaking of my personal experience playing through this DLC for the first time: I was playing a Minutemen playthrough. What DiMA did was monstrous, but I believe that Acadia will stay up in their observatory, being completely harmless, if we the protagonist find other ways to keep the peace. The General was displeased and even disgusted by the fact that DiMA found doing what he had done justifiable, he decided to keep Acadia alive and well, though Kasumi returned to the Commonwealth. Far Harbor was special. Sure they were an unsavoury bunch, but they had grown fond of the General, even if they wouldn't like to admit it. With time, they would let the Minutemen help retake the island, after the Children of Atom are gone. The Children of Atom, in the General's eyes, were the worst people on the island. If what Far Harbor and Tectus himself told us is true, then the Children have been "feeding" the fog, making it stronger. This will eventually push everyone not born with "his blessing" out the island. The People of Far Harbor, who used to own land everywhere around the island, are now almost falling into the sea. This, in the General's eyes, is unaceptable. The Children are effectively killing everyone off. So, in my game, I destroyed the Nucleus, and kept Far Harbor and Acadia alive.

My character is an ex bos (refusing to kill danse) Minutemen general. After spending so much time in the Commonwealth, he's come across the COA enough times to know that while the faction as a whole isnt evil, they are well on their way. Therefore to big a threat to simply trust one synth replacement to keep the rest of the COA on far harbor levelheaded. The thought of being involved in the replacement of someone; even if that someone is a cult leader, after spending so much fighting the institute is to much to stomach anyway. So my general refuses Dimas scheme to replace Tektus, and destroys the Nucleus, but he's not without mercy and convinces Tektus that division is the proper course. After which he has a stern talk with Dima, lets Kasumi stay at Acadia and informs Avery that she a synth so that she can prepare to disappear if people start to get suspicious. After that my general spends his time helping the harborpeople. In the end my general makes the hard choice that Dima was to cowardly to make, and due to my generals hard work the harborpeople and Acadia thrives.

For a BOS playthorugh,I think they would indeed kill the synths at Acadia and then most likely kill the Children of Atom since they kinda are violent cultists and they will most likely piss them off one day,one way or another, not to mention all the tech inside the Nucleus. As for Far Harbour,I could see the BOS starting to trade and make relations with them, maybe even keeping a sqaud there to make some research on the island.
P.S-Are you going to do a video about Paladin Danse,I know there may not be such an in-depth character like others, but could be worth a shot?

Dima is one of those characters that I liked at first, in my first playthrough and all, but it is one that I've grown to hate, I love the railroad, and the Minuteman, and I want peace, but I think Dima deserves justice, I can get around the memory wipes and facial rec the railroad does because the synths want it, nobody is forced, they have that option and volunteer for themselves, I strongly dislike the CoA but It's not pleasant to murder the innocent people who inhabit the nucleus, sure I hate Tektus and grand zealot richer (mostly for being ex-enclave) but honestly it is not pleasant to kill and replace Tektus to cover for the hypocrite person that is Dima, I'm not getting my hands dirty for him.
It really is a tricky situation, that's what I love about far harbor!

Yo Oxhorn, I like glitched my game. I finished the main quest line and destroyed the institute by siding with the Minuteman. First I was with the brotherhood then attacked them half way through the line. And Had to join the minuteman. I've heard what ever fraction you choose Glory would die. If true I think I glitched the game and finished Siding with Garvey. And glory is alive but with less then half health. Even Desdamona says she's dead even tho she's alive behind her

Im doing my current playthrough as a Brotherhood rogue named Clio. My plan with her was avoid the main story for as long as possible, do the DLC stuff, first far harbor now Nuka world, and the main goal is to basically kill everyone. I blew the nuclear up as soon as I could without hesitation, and went for peace between far harbor and Acadia. Now I'm planning to go to Nuka world, become overboss and gradually kill off everyone

Oxhorn I play as a member of the institute but I do care for people above ground cause the sole survivor came form above ground. plus I care about the NPC’s as well. I don’t kill unless I have to kill like riders, gunners and so on so it just how you want to play your game. It also depends on how you want to view and play as with the team you side with.P.S keep up the good amazing work I love your videos.

As a player who RPs caring about the bigger picture, I can see a justification for killing and replacing Tektus: The Fog kills people and drives people mad, and detonating the bucleus would ironically enough fortify the Fog.
