    Doug.
    Just want to say thank you for your continued sharing of knowledge with the Humminbird product. I finished up my system this weekend adding a 1159CI HD DI Combo Control Head to better see my 360TM along with my DI TM transducer that Humminbird exchanged for the transom transducer I got with the 1159. Now I use my 859CI HD Combo CH with my 2D US2 transducer all mounted on my DEK-IT stack-it mount. With my 899CI SI HD Combo on my console, I have no excuses. With out your Tips and Tricks I would not have taken this on myself, but his was a real kick and I leaned a ton doing the network myself. I'll send some pictures next time I comment.
    Regards,
    Doug Otteraaen

    Hello Doug. Watched this video some time ago, but went back and watched it again this morning. I currently have a 899 SI combo. I think I am going to upgrade to new Helix 12 3GN SI when they become available. Still researching to make sure that is the one for me with my budget. I was going to try to sell my 899, but thinking about keeping it and use both units so I can maybe use mapping on older 899 7 inch screen. I have an older 16 foot War Eagle boat that is generally used for crappie fishing. Value of electronics and trolling motor will almost = value of boat. I currently have 899 unit mounted on adjustable bracket to the right of steering wheel. Thinking about about putting new unit on bracket above or below 899. I may be able to mount directly above steering wheel. Any suggestions regarding new unit being above or below older unit or away if possible? Is there any advantages to bigger screen being above or below or away. Sounds like I can use ethernet to connect these units to share data which is my plan. I have newer Garmin unit at bow of boat. I have the HD transducer for the 899. I assume I will need to keep that transducer and add the one for the Helix 12? I know this comment is long, but trying to work through all I can in my mind before I spend a lot of $ on a new unit. Any help/suggestions would certainly be appreciated.

      Some rambling thoughts. Mapping above sonar data...when your running down the lake I look at map more than sonar data...so above steering wheel or above other unit is my personal preference. The HELIX MEGA uses different transducer and frequencies so you would need new transducer for the HELIX MEGA Imaging.

      humminbird for sonar and radar plus auto pilot for the minn kota. garmin for auto pilot of the actual engine(s)(Yamaha). everything internal still needs to be minn kota...excluding the battery switches and custom mounts for the Interstate Batteries to run everything. Don't forget your fuses to protect your electronics as well. Just as important as the fuel filter for your engine tho hopefully never in need of changing unlike your fuel filter.

    I think an important thing to keep in mind is this is much different than Ethernet networking in computer technology. This is not RJ-45s or fiber connectors. This almost looks like an old PS-2 mouse and keyboard connection before USB came out. The wires inside the cable are exactly the same. I'm not sure if they're cate 5e or 6. If you count there are 8 pins which is the same number of wires found in a standard copper Ethernet cable you use for computers. One reason the connectors are so different is these sit outside.

    Doug, thanks for all you do.
    I have a 1198 C SI, and a new 999CSI and a new 360. really excited about the combination. I understand that I need separate Lakemaster cards for each. I also understand that I might need Dongle Pigtail for the 999. I know that I already have one for the 1198. What is the "cable connector"?
    I fish from a Lund Pro Guide 1825 V with a 90 merc Tiller. Lot's of fun.
    Do you ever have seminars on using this equipment? Living in Oklahoma, if I promise not to cross state line with a football, I would enjoy a live session for questions and answers. Ha Ha....Does Missouri have a football team?...JT

    5:50 Just a suggestion. If you stack the Ethernet switches, it might be good design to put one switch at the console and one at the bow. This way you just run one long cable between switches. This will also save money in cable costs. You know there are design engineers for large companies for their networks. Pretty soon we might need them for boats. Also when you stack them (and trust me I'm someone with a CCNA), do not plug in redundant connections between 2 switches. Port 1 on switch 1 can go to any port on switch 2. But then port 1 on switch 1 cannot have any other port going to switch 2 or you will bring down your network. If you want to know why, lookup what a broadcast storm is. Managed switches can prevent these situations, but they obviously are expensive.

      Yes you can. Only thing you will need extra is the AS-EC-QDE Dongle Pigtail Adapters to connect ethernet cable to your units to utilize the quick disconnect feature of the cable collectors.

    Hello I'd like to ask you a few questions. on my current set up I have a terrova w/ I pilot link that's connected to my 899 on my console. I have a Helix 5 on bow that uses Terrova transducer. I bought a Helix 10 si and would like to put that on console and add 899 to bow along with Helix 5. I want to link my 899 and Helix 10 together. I've purchased the 5 port eithernet adapter and a 15 ft eithernet cord. is there any other cords I will need? I would like to use both 899 transducer and Helix 10 transducer also? will I need to add another battery? I have a 24v system. there's 3 batteries in total on my Boat now.
    could you please give me some
    direction on how to do all this properly?? I would really appreciate it! Thanks for your time!!

      Mapping does not share in HELIX or older CORE Series Models. Only the SOLIX has the capabilities for map sharing.

    I've got a 1197 at the console currently and plan on buying the Onix10. Since I cannot connect both together, would it make more sense and make it easier to just mount the Onix at the bow and mount the transducer on my Maxxum Pro, as well as getting the 360 imaging for the Maxxum as well? I'm new to all of this.

    Thanks for another great video from you. Do both units have to be on to use only one unit? What I mean is if I'm fishing alone and as I'm marking and saving waypoints with my console unit while traveling to my destination, then once at my destination, I turn off my console and turn on my bow unit, will those marked waypoints automatically be transferred to the bow unit or do I need to keep both units on whether I'm fishing and using the units at the bow or console. Also, while marking waypoints or using the live chart plotting software that's built in the units if I need to record a new lake that's not on my navionics lake lists, do both units have to be on for auto mapping? I hope I didn't confuse you too much. I'm looking at getting a 10 and 12 Solix SI.

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  6 років тому +1

      They share from one unit to the other so they have to be powered to share waypoints. You can create autochart LIVE and then copy to another unit when saved with ZeroLine Card and use AutoChart Pro to make a copy

    I would like to network my 999 cihd and my 859 cihd together (side by side) so they can share waypoints. What I would like to do is run both birds side by side. When using side imaging on my 999 I would like to mark a waypoint and have the waypoint show up on the 859's lakemaster map. Is that possible? What parts would I need to accomplish this?
    Also The 859 would only be used for it's gps Lakemaster mapping ability, I'm assuming all would need to do is run power to it,correct?

    Thanks Doug. I currently have the Onix 10 and the 1198 linked together with an ethernet cable to share waypoints. I've recently bought a Terrova. If I try to link the two current units together ALONG with the Terrova I was told that I needed to purchase a 5 port ethernet hub. If I do that, will the Terrova need to have an ethernet cable go from IT to the 5 port ethernet hub as well in order to link it to both units? Thanks for your help.

    Hello Doug, I want to use two similar humminbird fish-finder transducers as diver detection sonars. Because they have a shorter range than the actual diver detection sonar, I want to use them like security cameras (one next to the other) in order to cover a bigger area. I also want to combine their output to one TV screen just like security camera display. Is this possible? what do I need for this to happen?

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  6 років тому

      That can't be done you can only power one transducer at a time with a unit. plus you'd get cross talk running the same frequency

    • @mkuselimqana
      @mkuselimqana 6 років тому

      Thank you for your prompt reply Doug. Do you think cutting and extending the length of the cord from the sensor to the screen from 4m to 20m can affect the quality or the performance of the transducer? We want to extend the cord length so that we can mount the transducer on our harbour wall and have the display unit mounted in our office.

    + Doug Vahrenburg I am buying two Helix 9 SI units this weekend. To Network them together and use just one Transducer do I just need the Ethernet adapter y cords for both units and the two Ethernet cables that run between the units? I thought you said in one of these videos two that when networked you really only need one unit to be SI and the other can be a 2d unit and still see SI on the 2d unit. Is that correct or am I mistaken? Thank you so much for the help.

    Great and informative video as usual Doug. Sorry I just want to make sure i understood correctly. First of all i have a ll98 on the console and a 999 on the trolling motor. The only things that i am concerned with is being able to link waypoints ( mark on either and record on both) and if possible view the same map card on both units. So will just the cable do that for me? I was thinking i had to have the box also? If that is correct or incorrect could you list the humminbird part number for what I would need? The cable length would be 12 ft. Thanks again!

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  10 років тому +1

      1198c and 999ci HD you will need the Appropriate Length Ethernet Cable and the Dongle Pigtail for the 999ci HD to connect thru the Cable Collector. This will share waypoints from one unit to the other...they will be saved on the unit they are created on and shared to the other unit. You will need a map card for each unit. Mapping is not shared on those models. Ethernet does not require a hub or box to share just need the cable.

      Doug, I found the cable on the Humminbird site (AS EC 15E | Networking | 720073-5)
      But not sure of the "Dongle Pigtail" Can't find it listed anywhere on the site. can you list the part number from Humminbird? There is a AD 629 and a AD 926 listed that i am thinking might be it. One converts one way and the other the other way. Keep in mind I am going from a 1198 Main unit to a 999.

    Hi Doug. I have a question because I am confused. I have a Helix 9 SI at the console of my boat and I have a Helix 9 2d sonar only at the rear and a Helix 7 2d sonar only at the front of my boat. All have there own transducers. I set this up for 3 guys fishing in the boat with there own unit to watch. I found out that I cannot run them together because of interference. I can only run 1 run at a time which is no good for my partners. I am about to buy a Helix 12 mega unit for the console. Can I use the 5 port hub to network with any of the units I already have. I am assuming I would just need to use one transducer that will come with the new Mega unit for all 3 units? Thanks Doug!

      You have transducers connected direct to each unit? Which Models and which transducers are you using. In the Network Tab you select the transducer you want for the unit and it displays the data from that transducer. If it is connected to the unit should be simple. One hint rename your units versus the IP address and makes it much easier to know which transducer you are selecting. I have a video on this on Ethernet Networking and selecting which accessories it uses.

    I the install the same for the helix? I am trying to figure out how and what I need to hook up my 2 helix 10 Si units with 360 mount on trawling motor

      +Quincy Hebert You will need the 5 Port Switch to connect more than 2 Ehternet Devices or Units. Ethernet cables from switch to each unit and AS EC QDE to connect the unit to Ethernet Cable. 360 will come with cable to connect to Switch.

    Having trouble connecting 360 to Helix9SI Shows UNCONNECTED in diag screen GPS syncs and I can see the DI and SI views. 360 Power is run thru Bow Panel accessory switch, any thoughts would be apprecieted

      +Tight Lipped Tactics Make sure the 360 is powered first then turn on the unit

    Question, can I just plug a helix 10 si into my ulterra for I link capabilities? or do I need a hub?

      Also if I decide to add a helix 7 sonar gps in the future do I need that Y-splitter cable coming from the transducer? and if so what's the model number?

      You can connect iPilot Link Ulterra direct to the unit without Ethernet Switch.

      +Freek Oosterhuis I'm not sure about how Cannon Products Network. I would call Cannon or Humminbird Customer Service and they can better answer that question. Humminbird 800-633-1468

    Doug , I was informed that I can now Ethernet my onix 10 with any of the core series , is this true ?

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  9 років тому

      Chad Halvorson You can share Waypoints now between ONIX and CORE Series via Ethernet Networking

    Can you network the New Helix 9 and ONIX units?

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  9 років тому

      +Tight Lipped Tactics HELIX to ONIX can be networked to share Waypoints but that is the limit.

    Can I link an Onix 10 with an 1198?

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  7 років тому

      I think it can share GPS Waypoints between the units but I know for sure it will not be able to share sonar technology between those two series. Totally different operating systems.
