The trick i learned from my youth collecting hotwheels was cutting the bubble carefully in a U shape. This allows you to access and play with the figure/car without destroying the packaging. If you cut neatly with a blade you can refit the figure/car and display it on card as if it were sealed. I use this trick on all blister packed collectibles. I have about 700 hotwheel boxes [most of which are open] displayed on a wall with no problem.

I second this on star wars figures (modern ones if you're not willing to spend money on two figures at the same time)

Their Dark Crystal line is truly extraordinary, having brought back some of the original Kenner designers. Hope they do a second wave of The Dark Crystal. Perhaps Labyrinth next.

    This guy is FANTASTIC!
An intelligent, articulate honest review and I totally get his sense of humor and passion for the action figure collecting world.
These particular figures are not my thing, but it's Michael's over all attitude that I highly respect and throughly appreciate.
    We need more like him!
    Great review!

Thank you for your review and transparency on the interaction with Super7. And good on Super 7, they obviously value your critic. These styles aren’t my thing but I can respect the company on how they handle business and hope they improve there products.

Sure keep this line going, that's cool. BUT. I really wish that they would try to do a super deluxe line of reaction figures where they up the articulation and likenesses to modern standards to see how well they could do that. Considering the licences they are able to get, sticking with the vintage aesthetic is just limiting them and their potential.

Well I don't think you could have been fairer than that Michael. You didn't bend to pressure, you just did an honest review that your fans will appreciate. I know personally I have not been keen on the Masters stuff because the whole steroid look was what made that toy line as iconic as it was and the slim look just doesn't seem right. But each to their own. Anyway all the best guys.

I think they look cool as a novelty, but I agree, they are missing the iconic feel of the original Masters of the Universe toys.

Here in germany, those figures are pretty expensive at around 25 -30 € per figure. I want to buy a figure, not the packaging. Iron Maiden's Aces High-Eddie is a must-have, regardless of the price.

I just pre-ordered Super 7's Animation style Masters of the Universe He Man and Skeletor. From what I have seen, it looks amazing cause they are built to look like the original figures in similar packaging as it was in 1981, the only difference is they look more toon accurate. They should look nice displayed next to me original boxed Castle Greyskull and Snake Mountain.

There are several period correct movies and tv shows which never received toy lines which are ripe for Super 7: Battle Beyond the Stars, Steven Spielberg's Duel, Wheels of Fire, The Sword and the Sorcerer, A Boy and His Dog, and V the Original Mini-Series.

Very fair. This comes down to an 'if you like the property...' kind of thing. I was disappointed in the original runs (Goonies, BttF, etc). But I bought the Dark Crystal ones and was pleasantly surprised - not only were they better than the original Funko lines, but the accessories were better (build-a-figure Crystal!) and the packaging was nicer. I'm convinced enough to keep watching the line for properties I like. Oh, and those PotA figures on card do look cool...

I think they look amazing. I seem to remember my few Mego Superpowers figures had sonic weld issues too, but they really need to get those issues sorted out.

  • @garym6315

For me personally there are two reasons for getting these. By now (2024) they've covered so many movie and TV characters I would have loved back in the 80s and this is a convenient way of displaying something from those beloved franchises. Secondly, for the toylines I DID get in the 80s, it is a nice alternative. Many of my old Transformers are broken but I don't want to replace my original toys that have memories associated with them, so a 3 3/4 cartoon accurate Megatron is a way of both getting a "replacement" for display and having something nice and different. I like getting the Star Trek TNG figures to compliment my existing Galoob figures from season one.

Personally I'm intrested in their shogun warriors line( because even a basic Mazinger Z is super expensive) and robotech because it's a good way to get more than one Valkarie.
The fact that the quality is identical to Funko is very worrying. I've found Funko ReAction stuff, in the store, with broken off arms, heads and even one that completely fell apart all of them were still in minty boxes and bubbles.

I thought there WAS a 1980s Karate Kid line, but either way I agree that they (Super 7) are not focusing on lines that never happened, as was once their focus. I’ve been hoping over and over that they would do a The Last Starfighter line as they did with Alien (their signature series, the one that started it all). Alien was an unproduced line, and Super 7’s original inspiration.

The only ReAction figures I have are the Funko set for The Fifth Element, and only because there literally are no proper action figures for what is one of my all-time favourite movies. They're not bad for what they are. Paint is pretty good, and the welds on mine are also fine. But I probably would've passed if there was something better on offer.

  • @rogueplanet7776
    @rogueplanet7776 6 років тому

Also, these are marketed as an “adult collectible,” not a toy or action figure. Think of them as overly elaborate custom figures on custom cards. They aren’t really meant to be “played with,” which I always thought was short-sighted on Super 7’s part.

  • @mechachrist

The only ReAction figures I got were the Universal Monsters (classic horror is the main focus of my collecting) and I haven't paid more than $3 for any of them. Still packaged, too. I have a number of the Planet of the Apes and MOTU ReAction figures and have only noticed a very slight case of seam trouble on one of them. It would have been nice to see you open a few more before deciding that the sonic welding on the Reaction line as a whole is problematic. I agree that the cardbacks are beautiful and look terrific when displayed unopened, but they are also great fun to open and mingle with other toylines.

You know what I want to see done in this style? Star Wars. Hasbro does vintage styled packaging and 5 point articulation figures (that people hate) but they always look too "new". Excellent and really honest review. I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm a vintage collector but I have several of the Reaction figures from the Funko Releases but gave up picking any more up due to their cards all looking too similar and not enough effort in the card design. A great example are the Gremlins, the actual figures are so very small that the artwork should have made up for their smaller size and when I opened one I felt a little bit cheated for what I had paid. When left on the card and put on a shelf together they just didn't work. Those Planet of the Apes and Street Fighter II cards are a different ball game altogether. A Game Changer right there, now just work on the figure quality to be a little more robust for my kids sake Super Seven and I'm all in. You've got the potential to become a modern Kenner in this boring Hasbro over-saturated low quality toy world we are living in. Great Review Michael.

It's a shame the figures you mentioned had so many quality issues. I've been looking at their 3 3/4 inch MOTU figures, but at $15 a pop they are quite pricey considering the quality issues. On a different note, I find it interesting that many people express interest in the Planet of the Apes figures considering the amazing figures done by NECA were peg warmers and didn't sell well enough to keep the line going.

I went to a kid's bday party at McDonald's and he got them all. So jealous. 😒 I hope he was jealous that I had Mr. T or Lincoln Hawk that he never knew I had. 😝

I didn't see the three astronauts, didn't they get made? The female astronaut could be a rarer figure to get as well.
Now I wish I'd gotten the ST and Escape from NY figures, but they just seem too retro, I know that makes no sense but at least PotA look better, but the MEGO line looks a lot better still today.
    PotA v SW v DC v Marvel v Street Fighter v ST:TMP!

Can you do a review on the bionic six action figures? I have most of them and they are totally cool vintage figures!!!

My only issue is the price. I really like Super7's Masters of the Universe RetroAction figures, but $14-15 each is a bit steep when you want to get more than a few of them. I am not a mint on card collector, but in the case of their MOTU retro line, they look fantastic sealed in package, and that is how I would keep them. So I totally agree with you, Michael. At the same time, they are kind of tempting to tear open. But I guess that means buying doubles. Oh what a slippery slope that would be!

Sometimes you can luck out and find them on Ebay for cheap. I have the main eight Universal Monsters (non-variants) and I think I paid maybe $30 altogether, and that's carded. It took a while, but well worth it.

Could you glue the sonic welds, Or maybe shave the joints for more tolerance? Maybe not worth it!

That's right! I had forgot that ReAction was made by funko :D so I do have the Joker and Harley Quinn from suicide squad funko Reaction line :D :D as well as the awesome xenomorph alien :D I still want that Ripley :D awesome review brother :D I couldn't hold back tho I would open up and play with it all :D :D

Those aren't Reaction. Those are just meant to be normal 3 3/4 inch action figures. Not that your confusion isn't warranted, though. The only name they're giving the new stuff beyond name brand lines like Batman 66 is 9 POA, which is incredibly forgettable.

Ben_ToaofFire you right bro :P Funko made them but they are just regular non-retro line :D :D maybe in 20 years they will redo the line and suicide squad will become retro :D

Now if Super7 can undo the greatest crime against us collectors and rerelease the Golden Girls Reaction set. I would love to own one but not willing to pay the $400 to get one from the scalpers on eBay.

I realize ReAction/Super 7 are going for a very Vintage Kenner style of figures, but for the price they're asking, I would expect better-more modern sculpts & more points of articulation.

Really like the Apes. I collect motu and love the card art it’s fantastic but I’d rather see S7 put that $ into the 6” regular line.
