I think they're from Norfolk (where Lotus is based) so they already sound slightly off to most Brits. That toe link kit is slightly absolutely necessary, was at a track day one time and there was an exige there that broke one. Got away without hitting anything though.
Yep, we totally agree. After racing Lotus sports cars for many years we designed the toe link kit that most of our track day drivers use on their cars.
The only issue, according to my mechanic, is that the oem toe link is kind of designed to break, especially in an accident. With it being the weak point, you protect the tub. Strengthen it too much and a crash could potentially write off the entire car...

I don't have this fancy one. Cut a long story short my wife wanted a cheap convertible replacement for a 1000quid purchased price MGF vvc which I really liked . At that time we also had a fancy Merc coupe and a Lancia Integrale Evo2 and a shopping car. We had no debts and a few quid in the bank so I thought (8 years ago) SLK 55, to my brain this was the car. She blew off about the petrol costs. The only alternative viable option was an Elise. So we bought a N/A Elise ZZ1 touring (leather seats and carpets). I loved it. A few mods and it was awesome. I have mates with supercharged cars and to be honest, I wouldn't flip it. Gonna keep this gem. You don't have to go mad with these. They don't depreciate and when you hit tight twisties a modified integrale Evo2, Lambo Hurricane will have no hope. You also can afford a service, brakes, tyres and fuel.

5:30 Header tanks go bang - can confirm. Had them break on my Elise this summer. Watch out for the indicators falling out - I think it might be linked to a fit-and-finish issue of the clam, but my Elise is popping them out at a shocking rate, and the plastic clips holding them in (at least stock) will always fail, being in proximity of the radiator, and being regularly thermo-cycled.
Congratulations Moog. You deserve this thing. You seemed genuinely surprised at them handing you that dash, and it sounds like you got a pretty good score on the car. What an absolutely beautiful vehicle. Can't wait to see you thrash it at the track

The upside, spares dirt cheap.
I love how those guys are genuinely from the UK, can just make out their accents, but they’ve been in straya for so long that they’ve got auzzie accents
I think they're from Norfolk (where Lotus is based) so they already sound slightly off to most Brits. Add in a bit of an Aussie twang and even to me, a person from Norfolk, they sound almost full-on Aussie. Yet MCM even replied to a comment themselves saying they sounded "super British" to them. It's fascinating really.
@@PiousMoltar I would’ve put both their English accents as South Central - South East rather than Norfolk, there wasn’t the “auw” sound in the O’s you’d associate with the Norfolk area. You could definitely hear that Lee had been in Australia a long time though :)
theres no aussie accent in them
I am an Aussie and can confirm what Jimmy Jay said - these guys sound 100% British to us. No question or doubt. 😂
@@mjmci3 they don't sound British at all to me, very Aussie sounding to a Brit.
"The owners are a little bit _special_".
Tech: **giggling** _yeah_
James May liked Lotus cars too
@@JMDrives Lotus cars are amazing? Especially the Toyota powdered ones...
@@insomniacbritgaming1632 Uhm.. I'm just sticking the term "special" with James May and Lotus. And it's a fact.
I love Lotuses, who doesn't? Saw only 3 of them in the past 8 years., and those I saw were Exiges.
I knew an Aussie who was doing engineering at Uni and it was his dream to work for Lotus. He went on to become one of the chassis guys at Lotus.
Great brand. Great car. Super excited to see it in MCM
Wow the new dash digital display looks Maaaaaaaad. The guys were awesome what a bonus to have some Lotus experts on hand. Great vid guys!
He wasn’t lying,, he knows literally NOTHING about this car 😂😂😂
Yup - nothing! Good blokes to learn from though.
@@mightycarmods & we can learn with you! :)
@@mightycarmods one of the best things about this channel is that it promotes learning
Never meet anyone who knows it all about every car..
Most times having someone that knows nothing is better than someone that knows a bit, as it is easier to teach one without the prior knowledge.
I have wanted a lotus for as long as I can remember. Seeing a Elise as a kid was what made me love cars! Good stuff
Holy smokes, a bolt-on kit that actually just bolted on?
lol
The rarest thing in the history of car modding
From the actual manufacturer, for a 12 years old car :D
An actual sports car, simple engineering is the best engineering.
I love how these guys absolutely love their job. You can tell they are so excited to talk about every little detail, and i feel like a lot of companies and engineers have lost that. Also, the lotus exiege is a less daily able, but more heavily engineered 350z. Change my mind.
That dash is freaking epic! I can't believe how simple they make that update/up grade.
I'm a software developer and I LOVE the idea of driving a Lotus, so yeah, there's some truth in the stereotype.
Me too and i also love this idea hahahah must be some truth
Also this 😏
It’s the same with Engineers. I’m irrationally drawn to it in a way only my MR2T can stave. I dare not even look at them.
Same here. SQL and Software Dev with an 07 exige s!
im a java dev and i somehow cant afford a lotus on the side... guess i need to start freelancing
I absolutely am in love with this car. The Exige 240S/Cup 240 has been one of my dream cars for years. I will be following this very closely and living vicariously.
This is absolutely awesome. I had a chance to speak with Lotus guys at Goodwood FOS. And the experience was out of this world, the way they think about the cars is just unreal. Well done Moog!!!
That new dash is awesome mon!! Can't believe that's a genuine lotus upgrade. Excited about this build. Hope you go balls to the wall crazy and mod everything to make this a track weapon
Yep, best of all it will automatically detect when you are at a race track & switch display to do timing, data logging and more. Check it out www.simplysportscars.com/en/gallery-blog/lotus-approved-digital-dashboard-aim-mx2e-for-sale
Ive always loved the Exige, and yes i am a IT nerd.
Fun Fact: every car where a supercharger blocks most of the rear window is good.
I certainly wouldn’t be complaining that’s for sure. 😂
But not front window?
@@abc-bm8pl Typically good as well but sometimes it's too hard to see the road.
Nice! Moogs face as he snaffles the Lotus Digital Dash :)
"Thankyou", walks away before they change their mind!
Love it!
It is soooo clear, Moog is in love.
I think it is so nice to see where the guys started, (painting brake callipers, upgrading a car for $500 with a stereo for a friend) to see Moog now being ready for the next level.
He really brings it across nicely, good tv work, engaging your audience...Can't wait to see where the channel is going from here...
And yes, I am an IT nerd and proud of it ...
That moment your sponsors are FANBOYING on you ....priceless
Man I've always loved watching mighty car mods over the past 7 years or so. This is just wow. You guys never disappoint!!
I always loved the Lotus and seeing you work on it makes me want one even more than ever. Ever since i was a kid and they first came out, i have always been amazed at the engineering and beauty of the lotus.
Used walk past the back of the SSC place every now and again and ogle at the car they had hidden around there, crazy to see them on here! Love the exige, proper little track weapon.
It’s so common to watch UA-cam videos with “experts “thar are just people spouting their opinion who don’t really know what they’re talking about. These two guests know their stuff. Wish they were on my side of the earth. ;) Take this from a fellow S240 owner, you must take that car to the track, that is where it really shines!!
Very glad to see the shift away from the standard Japanese turbo vids. I admit I haven't watched a full video for some time as I've lost interest, but these 2 on the Lotus were great and I watched them all the way through. Nice one - keep it fresh!
One of my all time favorite MCM videos. So cool to see Moog's excitement.
Love how he fixed the signals in 2 secs haha
Astra parts...
Such an amazing car! By far the best car you guys have ever bought for the channel. I hope that it's a lifetime keeper!
Yessss!
Man I really miss this channel. Kind of got sidetracked with life for some years and cars took a backseat. This channel takes credit for why I love cars so much. I hope to meet you guys one day. This channel will forever be one of the greatest of all time.
"It's a Lotus Exige, We've Extablished that."
I will say, as an engineer in the automotive world, I enjoyed listening to what these guys had to say.
Do you have any bits of advice for a mechanical engineering student trying to break into the job market?
@@ExperienceAwesome Don't be afraid if your first job isn't in the automotive field. Mine wasn't but I made the most of it and learned all I could. More importantly, I was able to express what I learned into interviews. Learning how to handle interviews well is a crucial skill. Finally, if you can get any internship experience while you're in school, that will make landing your first job significantly easier.
@@matthewmccarthy9283 Thanks so much man!
I still can't believe it's actually happened. I wanted to see it for so long but I never really believed I'd see a Lotus on McM. And the SSC lads are here too! 🤯🤯🤯
Took me a minute to place the accents but I sussed it - it’s “British person who’s been living in Australia for a few years”
Cool video, loving the Lotus!
Yeah there was definitely a strong mix of both British and Australian accents in there. Very interesting to hear but I guess they do have a fair few similarities.
@@SurgeDashcam Yup. Aussie Accent was a development from the South Eastern English(Kent, London) and the North Eastern English (Lincolnshire). So you get the 'Alriggghhht maaaayyte' with the 'Get out the baaath and drive ya caaaah'
So cool to have two trained techs walking through all of the details of the car. Also, good on Lotus for making that digital dash retrofitable.
Man that car is SO freaking cool. And it really looks amazing!
Yesssssss, staying up late boozing during lockdown in Wales and finding a new MCM episode.......WIN. Just sold my poor mans Elise (MR2 Roadster), splaffing all over your Exige :)
I'm doing the same as
Cymru am byth! 🏴
cheers
🍻
Same. Only I go to bed early, to get early to work. And not really boozing, becuse I am driving. And I drive a Dacia Sandero. OK, not the same at all...
"This is like an MR2? Radiator at the front and ..... corolla engine in the back"
Heavily modified Corrolla engine. Ha
Can't wait to see you thrash it at the track
u guys r singlehandedly gonna make secondhand lotus prices go up 🤣 (hands pun lol)
that was an uber geek off, purest love in... a delight to behold.
Bringing love to the Lotus community!! Let's go!
This was the series that first hooked me into MCM, I had a lotus Elise in my pre responsibility days, Marriage, mortgage, kids, and was really really feeling the loss of the elise when this series popped up on my feed. I know it was a catch and release car but man it was excellent. Would love to have an MCM limited anime poster done of this car! Have watched every single episode of MCM since and am 1 of the 37 viewers of that other channel
I can't wait 2 years of owning my 05 Elise I'm now learning a lot from a guy in the UK. We are going for 1/4 mile times but hey still fun. Nice thing smaller turbo on my Honda k24 and reversing suspension tuning I can still go run a circuit. This cars weight makes this fun plus the type of car odd for straight line!
Absolute perfection, after your last video had a look online to see how much they was selling for 😍🙂👌🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
Me too? 45 large is out of my price range.
@@infosneakr I know right, even the basic model is still going for 26 to 30k lucky owners
Always loved Lotus, would love a Europa but being 6'6" I'm not getting into pretty much any Lotus ever. 😂
Have you seen the Evora 400 which is a larger cockpit and more traditional entry / exit
The Evora would be a good shot... or an Esprit
"Every single issue" Oh hoho to be a new lotus owner again.
Was there a lot of issues? I am seriously considering an Exige. Would you recommend owning one?
@@xkimopye More issues than a "normal" car but thats part of the fun of owning a Lotus. I love mine I have had 2. I would recommend you test drive one first though and make sure you can get in and out of it lol.
@@xkimopye it´s a great car! Go for it. I own a exige s british GT edition. Also 240hp
Ok that’s really good to know, it seems from all the UA-cam videos everyone is real happy with their lotus. The getting in and out of thing won’t be a problem, it’s actually part of why I love them. But yes I do need to at least ride in one first to make sure that is the car I am really after. Having the dream car is my four year goal and I think the exige might be the one.
@@xkimopye I ran an Elise as a daily driver for 18 months (I'm in the UK) and put 25k onto it. It was 6 years old when I got it. Nothing broke, service costs were the same as a Toyota, so cheap. It had a bit of an appetite for rear tyres and that was it. I'd definitely buy another.
The thing I like about this most is the fact that you actually listen to them and don't butt in. 👍🏻
Moog just looks so stoked the whole time I love it! Please go big on the lotus mods!

My 1990 Opel Vectra A GT has those exact same stalks. They're just good.
I can't wait for more content with the Lotus!!!
The way that new dash unit fitted into the old slot was so satisfying. It was genuinely exciting to see how such a sweet modern unit could fit into the old analogue dash.
Yep it's been designed by AIM together with Lotus so that it can be 'plug and play' so to speak.
i love how passionate and knowledgable they are!
you should really change the oil pump. and use an oilpan from a 1zz ;) it will save you later
I was gonna add this. The zz series of engines are notorious for oil starvation
I love and want a lotus. Also want to hug those guys. Hearing them talk about this car makes me all gIddy
Remember my dad driving to the factory in his esprit asking for a new gear stick at the gates 😂
Then years later I ended up managing a nearby pub where loads of the Lotus staff eat and drink. Top Narfuk folk.

What a lovely environment and video. The Lotus technicians looked upon your car as a family member. You could see the delight in their eyes, and the keenness to rectify it's problems.
