There's no stopping this man! Only two more songs left after this one 😱
I recommend Ximena Natzel's animatics for the last two. They're lovely!
You are the first reactor I've seen who has recognized/reacted to the motif of different beast in "keep your head down he's aiming for the torches." In different beast: "my real wife knows I'm not scared of the water!"
That was it!!!! Felt familiar, thank you☺️
They really did combine all of the monsters into Odysseus in this song, that's so sick
I HAVE BEEN RACKING MY BRAIN FOR WHAT THAT WAS SINCE CHRISTMAS!!!! Thank you!
@reubenproctor9344 SAME
I *_THOUGHT_* it sounded familiar, I just couldn't put my finger on it! Thank you!
This is about reversed roles. Ody is now the monster hunting Antonus' "men". He's now their Polyphemus. They broke the law of hospitality. This starts with the very title. You called it yourself. Polyphemus, scylla, Charybdis, etc. Now Odysseus. He's joined the monsters and won't even grant mercy when they invoke Polites open arms values.
He let him talk until that very moment. "Yeah, yeah, blah, blah-- Open Arms?! How DARE you."
In the official one, Odysseus decapitated the last suitor in this will be your fate
It could easily either be the suitors or his own choir. In 600 Strike, after he truly became the monster, we did hear Odysseus get his own choir with “600 MEN!”. So, we know he’s capable of it.
True true!!
I kinda assumed the choir in 600 Strike was the spirits of his crew, but I do think there is some merit in the idea that it isnt diagetic, like with the other monsters
SAY IT WITH ME!--
He is the monster rawr rawr rawr!!!
He is the monster rawr rawr rawr :D
He is the monsterrrrr, he is the monsterrrrrrrrrrr, he is the monster rawr rawr rawr!
He is the monster rawr rawr rawr!!!
He is the monster rawr rawr rawr
He is the monster, he is the monster, he is the monster rawr rawr rawr
I cant believe we're getting close to the end ... i'v been watching these since ''The horse and the Infant'' and i loved every single one of them ... first time i heard the next 2 songs i got quite tears in my eyes
Thanks for being here☺️
"The Man and the Infant" is really funny.
@@eclipse9727 ngl i didnt even catch that i mixed the 2 songs together xD
"Keep your heads down he's aiming for the torches!" lesson learned from Scylla, he's truly taken all his previous experiences and applied them now that he's the Monster
While Odysseus is skulking in the halls around the suitors, his foes locked inside his home to deal with at his leisure, you can hear the cello as well, which was the instrument of the cyclopses/Polyphemus
was trying to get this in before it ended, but in the source material (from what I remember) quite a few of the Gods were helping Ody in this fightAres for both the bloodshed and his role as protector, both Aphrodite and Hera because Ody's doing this for his wife/love, Athena (through Telemarketer), and Zeus because the Suitors repeatedly broke Xenia (the expectation of mutual hospitality, also one of Zeus' most favored "rules")
Get ready to be blown away, one of the best songs (this is one of my favorite songs!) I absolutely love you, Jen, but I’m sooo sad that the EPIC: The Musical videos are coming to an end! 😭💔
So in the Livestream animatic Telemachus didn't see Odysseus but ran when odysseus stabbed through the man's back.
In the livestream we also had the "this will be your fate" get followed up by Ody be-😶ing the man and k!ll!ng all the suitors.
Altho this animatic makes it so cool how it was done different
I don't have any sort of confirmation on this, but I think Duvetbox is trying to imply that when Odysseus saw Telemachus it drew him out of it enough to *_HEAR_* what's happening & not just the blind, bloodlusty, can only hear your heartbeat ringing in your ears type beat he was on for most of this song
Omg omg lmg I can’t wait to watch your reaction!!!! I love Odysseus since the first song ever but this one made me fall for him completely!!
Yesssss I was hoping this would be the Odysseus animatic you would be reacting to. It's sooooo good. Duvetbox never misses
At the moment where that man is asking Odysseus for forgiveness and you said their wasn't any naivety. There definitely was if you remember what Poseidon says when he tells Odysseus he can leave as long as he apologized. "The line between naivety and hopefulness is almost invisible" that's why Odysseus quotes Poseidon with "no"
Let's go! I heard that the way he did all of this was from what he learned in his journey. Biggest example was scylla .
Is it just me, or does Telemachus look majestic in Devetboxes animatic😭
Nope, I was thinking the same thing.
Nope, I was thinking the same thing.
He does, but tbh almost everyone in Duvetbox's animatic looks extremely similar lol
Not sure if it’s just me who hears it but the thrums of arrows being fired at the end really sounds like the same sound as when the Cyclops was striking down with the club…if it is that’s one amazing way to come full circle from that moment
Honestly, knowing Jay, it's very possible that it's that. Great observation!!
Odysseus is the perfect example that sometimes it's necessary to be the monster, both has a husband and a father
Realistically, at least ONE of these suitors would’ve went “I didn’t even wanna do allat. I’m going home if you don’t kill me.”
Pretty sure in the original, one suitor says that (and did not do anything malicious), but Odysseus still killed him. (Because he stood by and let others disrespect his house etc. and tried to marry his wife)
I do think it is funny how Jorge's message is "Sometimes you need to be ruthless to protect what you love." But people conflate it with Odysseus becoming a monster and going "Is he though? They were going to do bad things to Penelope and Telemachus." And that's the thing. You're supposed to root for him, you're supposed to want him to kill them all, to be ruthless.
I highly encourage looking at the Stella Luna Animatic for the song Odysseus as well! It goes a little more in detail to the song and gives more background I feel.
Wanted to point out that if you compare Scylla with this song, Ody tells Eurylochus to “light up 6 torches” and at the end Scylla telling Ody “We are the same you and I-I” now in Odysseus (the song xD) someone says “Keep your heads down he’s aiming for the torches!” Aka, Scylla aiming for 6 people with the 6 torches lit by Eurylochus, and now Ody, now a monster like Scylla does the same :)
I honestly don't know what to say when typing these comments, only two more songs after this one
Ofc we'll be reacting to different animatics but seeing how far we've come the ending is so bitter sweet❤
The background vocals i always assumed were mimicking the polyphemus vocals to show that odysseus is the monster now
Ok so in that last part in another animation being from the live stream Odysseus cuts the head off one of the suitors and basically slaughters the rest
Jay actually made a video on the motifs of Telemechus's round of attacks if you wanna check that out. It has some really cool info!!
I didn't even CLOCK that he says "my mercy's long since drowned" to reference how his tipping point was practically drowning whilst fighting poseiden then changing his whole "open arms" thing, that was so smart
Hi Jennifer hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
The closer to the end we get, the harder it is to wait between each video lol
So I love how Duvetbox handles the ending, in cannon he approaches fleeing suitors and kills them all. In hers he is coming out of his calm rage and hearing it all for the first time after seeing Telemachus for the first time which is why he is in the lighter colors at least to me that is what I get
The beginning plucking you were hearing was the "All I hear are screams" from The Underworld Song
3:15 it *_SOUNDS_* like they're using the vinyl guitar again, which makes sense as A: it's playing the motif of Clever Odysseus that we hear throughout the musical, but was first introduced in The Horse and the Infant as the _FIRST_ motif we hear, but B: *_THAT'S_* the Odysseus that the suitors believe themselves to be dealing with: the man who left for Troy, seeking to do the least amount of harm as possible while still achieving his goals, not the ruthless Odysseus that stands before them now
5:56 exactly, it's a boss battle
YESSSS DUVETBOX!!! So excited for this reaction
Did you notice that at the very end after he says “this will be your fate” the background chorus changes to the same as the end of No Longer You, signifying the end of the prophecy?
Oh wow 😮
Ody went all out. Suitors trying to trick him with open arms was hilarious to me. And that no that followed 😂. They are not at his level. Also, Telemachus grow so much. Look at how he stands against those man. Prince of Itacha, litte wolf, warrior of the mind Telemachus slays🤺.
Y’now technically Odysseus is related to Hermes (great grandson). So I find it funny to think that he has no godly powers EXCEPT the ability to summon background vocals and music 😂.
Ah I love Duvetbox’s animatic! Okay so at the end, Odysseus was canonically shown to have decapitate one of the suitors and Telemachus had fled the scene to get out of his fathers way
Then a final image is shown with a room entirely filled with dead suitors, there is blood everywhere, with Odysseus standing in the middle
However, in Duvetbox’s animatic, Telemachus is shown to be afraid of his dad, he didn’t ever know him, always thinking him as cool and unreachable. But now that he does have him, seeing his father’s outrage first hand, he looks scared as it shows his wide eyes and the dead bodies everywhere, topping it all off with Odysseus smearing the blood onto himself and we get one final look at how disheveled he is before the screen cuts to black!
Odysseus did to suitors what Poseidon wanted to do to him. The only difference is that Odysseus was successful. Thelemacus come so far, from 'I got in a fight and I didn't die' to ' I came prepared'. Love that for him.
I neeeeedddddd to see you watch the original Odysseus animatic from the livestreammmm
While there are still SOME men in the kingdom, the best historical estimate based on how many he killed her and how many he took off to war that never came back... Odysseus probably killed about 60-70% of the men of his kingdom one way or the other. Population estimates of the time would be about 2000-2500 total people in Ithica before the war. 1000-1200 males... 708 now dead.
Ig Ithaca would be a female-dominated society in the coming years
We've got to understand that just cause the suitors didn't physically harm Penelope, it doesn't mean they didn't harm anyone else. Remember a palace has handmaidens, servants, etc, who would've been at the suitors' whims for 20 years. They deserved this.
My theory is thar Odysseus is the only one to explicitly say it because he was raped by Calypso and so he knows exactly what that feels like.
Only monsters get songs Titled as their name😈
Omg
Fun fact to make you cry, Polites is Penelopes brother
I DID NOT NEED TO KNOW THIS! DDAMN IT NOW IM CRYING AGAIN!
wait is he rly??
@asongb1rd he's the son of the king of Troy, and Penelope is the daughter of the king of Troy, so they're either siblings or he's her nephew
SPOILER (maybe?)
Someone said that when you hear the piano around Telemachus, it’s Athena speaking to him so only he can understand/hear and that when you here that Athena stuttering synth it’s him entering quick thot for a moment and coming back. Hence why the piano comes during talking and the synth before danger.
No one seems to notice, but I'm pretty sure Odysseus says "No" in the same manner as Poseidon did
If you haven’t filmed the next song, might I suggest Ximena’s animation for it 👉🏽👈🏽
Boss battle: Odysseus
If it’s Odysseus slaughtering over 100 men, it’s safe to assume the danger motif will be present the whole time. You don’t need to keep saying it.
See I would have lived because I would not have even been a suitor. AT WORST I would have tired to string the Bow and if I failed I probably would have just left. I for sure would not have been there long enough to end up in this situation. If I really wanted the move up politicly THAT BADLY I probably would have befriended Telemachus I'm only a few years older then him and I feel like we would get along. And being friends with the Prince / Future King is a good way to go places. WITHOUT being stabbed by his dad.
I’m actally a bit surprised that not one suiter tried to get Penelope’s favour through Telemachos. After all, being the one guy to get along with her kid would have been a big plus, doubly so since most suitors seemed to dislike him and were probably plotting to get him killed so their children would inherit the kingdom.
Now that I think of it, could it be that Penelope was holding out less for Odysseus sake and more for her son? After all, Odysseus might very well have been dead for all she knows, so she might have not been opposed to remarry as long as her new husband wouldn’t be a threat to her son.
PLEASE REACT TO TYE OTHER OLD VERSION OF ODYSSEUS THE FUNNY ONE PLSPLSPLS PLSPLSPLS THE ONE EITH TELEMACHUS I WINT SPOIL MORE
