Have you ever thought of directing an interviewer to your youtube channel? I think it's a great testament to what a great teacher you truly are.

LOVE LOVE LOVE how you put in a glimpse of the interview! I would have killed for something like this when I went through the interview process!! (I literally googled 'teacher interview' dozens of times looking for examples like this) This is gonna be sooooo helpful for so many future teachers!

OMG you are AWESOME!!! Shout out from a 20 year veteran teacher in a title 1 district. Girrrrrl you go so way over and above! I mean I gotta catch my breath just watching you. Thank you so much for all you do for those kids, that school. They are lucky to have such an amazing person teaching for them. Love, love, love the ideas I have gotten from you about classroom management and organization. Yes, us old teachers CAN learn new tricks! Thank you for sharing. I watched your video on someone who complained that a student chose to kneel at your small group. PLEASE, ignore the silliness, don't sweat the small stuff, and ROCK ON!

It's sad, because we know Knuckle's behavior at school is a symptom of a much bigger problem. It's nice that you had a moment that brought you back to a better place with him (for now!) When a child perpetually misbehaves, it hard to see them in any other light. Love that you filmed your phone interview. You came across knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and professional. I'd hire you in a heartbeat!

I am applying for jobs on in counties adjacent to montgomery county, and have been told not to worry about the interviewer's facial expressions at all because they are SUPPOSED to be concentrating and writing things down- more writing is a good thing! I was added to the candidate pool for both of the counties I have done screening interviews with thus far- and both of my interviews were like this!

THANK YOU - for taking the time to make these very relatable and informative videos! This is the very best way to really see and understand what teachers could be doing in a better, more effective way!! I have loved the Class Dojo stories to give parents several inside the classroom 15-second videos of what we are doing! This helps them as a parent - and your videos are definitely helping other teachers. I bought your teaching portfolio - so excited about how it looks already and I'm not even done! I've been teaching for over 25 years - and moving to Indiana from North Carolina to find a new job - due to my husband's work there. It will be soooo new for me - but I absolutely love teaching!! THANK YOU AGAIN for so many of your resources that I have purchased and keep finding more to purchase!

I love love LOVE watching your videos 😍 & I really love how passionate you are about your job & how invested you are into the material you prep & teach as well as those fun activities to engage all of your students 😁 You are definitely a BIG inspiration to not only me but people who are looking into the education field or those who are already IN it. My dream job is to be a preschool teacher & I'm currently a TA in a preschool classroom after having experience with K-3 classrooms & I love it so much! You have definitely given me a look into what it's like to be on the other side as an actual teacher RUNNING the classroom & I couldn't be more excited for what the future holds! Thank you for being an inspiration & giving hope to those who may feel like giving up on dreams or to educators who are struggling to enjoy their careers due to stress in the classroom or whatever it may be! Thank you! ❤️

You should have your students stuff their folders with the newsletters, scholastic, etc. Saves you a lot of time and I am sure they are capable of doing it!

    • @PocketfulofPrimary
      @PocketfulofPrimary  7 років тому +11

The only problem is that most of the time we don't get papers to go home until the very end of the day and they are in specials so I have to stuff them during that time... there isn't another time when they come back to have them all do it. Plus, the folders are barely wide enough to fit the papers so it actually is pretty difficult to get the papers inside without messing them all up. I have had my students do it before but it just doesn't work very well!

Oh girl! I just came across your channel and I love it! I haven't even finished this video yet, but just watched your interview and want to mention a trick I have for nervous moments -- I used to have to speak publicly at legislative meetings that were televised, trying to pass laws in my state, and no matter how prepared I was, I would still be a bit nervous. I would keep water with me, like you, in case my throat dried out or I needed to take a moment. BUT the best thing I did, when I sat down at the meeting, I would immediately put a pen in my hand, put it to paper, and scribble until my hand stopped shaking. And with that, I found that my voice stopped shaking. I just thought I'd share in case you're ever interviewing again or if you ever need to share tips with your students. I just finished student teaching in December and am hoping to get my own classroom in the fall :)

      That's great that your pre-qualified! Congrats!! =)
I think it all depends on the type of school you would like to work at. If you'd prefer to work at a Title 1 school, you could research the title 1 school in the area you would like to work in and email the principals. It doesn't hurt to ask if they have openings and/or when they will begin interviewing. I'm not sure if all the school openings are posted online yet but I do know that principals have been going to job fairs to hire the voluntary/involuntary transfers since they have to be placed first. When I was interviewing, I had an open contract so I interviewed in April I think but I was open to working anywhere in MoCo. Is there a specific area in MoCo that you want to stay in ?

I look SO FORWARD to these videos!!! I work as a teacher in early education. Your videos are so encouraging and real. It's comforting knowing that others struggle in similar ways. We will get through the tough times, and videos like yours totally help with that! I have a questions too. I was wondering about your staff relationships. Do you get along with your team teachers and other staff? Do you hang out during lunch breaks, or recess, or any other down time during PDs or anything? I love the relationships I have with my coworkers. Wondering if you do too :)

    • @PocketfulofPrimary

Thank you so much for your kind words! Yes, we definitely all struggle in similar ways! My staff relationships are great! But a lot of the teachers in my school eat in their rooms rather than in the teacher lounge... first of all, the actual lounge is on the opposite side of the school. My team teachers (and I) like to eat in our rooms so we can get stuff done during our lunch time. We definitely hang out and talk at recess and during PDs though! But we like to just close our doors and get stuff done (they always leave right at 3:45) sometimes! Hopefully that makes sense! It's like... we love each other, but we are also really busy and need to just get it done!

I understand your frustration about badly behaved kids. Cause then there are those kids who are always really good behavior wise and they need/want/deserve attention as well but bad behavior needs your attention as well. Sometimes I would behave worse due to lack of attention .

I had an interview on Wednesday too! I got an offer to be the new resource teacher at one of our smaller schools that has just kindergarten and 1st. I will be jumping down from teaching 3rd. You did awesome during your interview. I think there were good vibes on that day and it will continue with you until you can interview at the actual schools. Good luck!

When the interviewer babbles on in any job interview internally we’re all thinking oh crap
am I doing well while nodding your head to everything.

I love your new desktop L👀K! I'm wondering where you store your teacher manuals and resources? My desk is overcrowded because all those resources take up so much room!

Your videos are amazing, you really helped me when I lost my motivation with it. I'm a trainee teacher for 14-19 year olds and the other day I stated I wanted to get to know my learners academically and personally (like you said in your interview) and my mentor took me aside and said I'm not allowed to say the word 'personally', which is so odd because I couldn't see the harm and glad you think it's fine too. It just means you see them as an individual.

I definitely don't have a problem with the word "personally" and I refuse to change that for an interview because it's part of who I am as a teacher! I DO get to know my students personally... I go to their sports games outside of school and competitions and everything else. If a district or school has a problem with my getting to know my students personally then I don't think I would want to work for that district/school.

Pocketful of Primary I'm so happy that you stick with your beliefs, I think I'll have to just avoid saying it until I finish this year as a trainee. I think she is a bit crazy to be fair! 😅 thank you!
