- One Piece has been a modern marvel in terms of the art / animation quality in a weekly release. Pushing the boundary how high quality an anime can look being a Long Running series. However for the first time I'm aware of, history of anime has been made. One Piece is going on a 6 month hiatus to increase production quality, music, sound effects, and be uncensored. I feel someone in management at Toei Animation saw The One Piece Remake being done by NETFLIX and are getting concerned their product will be second fiddle to them.

Dressrosa definitely needed a remake. They adapted 102 chapters into 118 episodes. There should never be more episodes than manga chapters for that same arc.

I mean, One Piece has been on a generational run these past couple years. I hope this 'competition' you're speaking of won't put a fork in the current adaptation. I never cared for remakes myself honestly since i already know whats going to happen (this does not apply the same way from seeing the manga story animated for the first time though).

one pace still has heavy pacing issues they adapt like 2 chapters per 33 minutes this was the best thing toei could of ever thought of 3 chapters per episode is PEAK pacing
One pace is made by people who have barely any experience in filmmaking, they cut down exposition and things that are necessary to build emphasis or tension in a scene just because its a "waste of time". I am aware one piece suffers from pacing issues, but removing shots that build emotion and create impact for viewers so that you can save time, hurts the end product. It is better to leave something like this in the capable hands of people like WiT studio and the team at Toei behind these new remakes of what is notoriously one piece's worst arcs in terms of animation as well as pacing, especially if oda is involved in something like this.
@@saintsleep To be fair its not even remotely fair for the One pace team. they have to cut shit and syincronize audio and sound effects.
toei has the raw video with all its layers separated the work they will pull off will be several orders of magnitude better.
One Pace is garbage and always has been. They edit everything down so far that they neuter all sense of build up and tension in the foolish sense of trying to match the Manga as frame perfect as possible. Except that, animation and manga are consumed differently and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for the other. One Pace was just such a bad way to consume the show.

Fun fact...if every episode adapted 3 chapters into a single episode from beginning to end of Wano, you'd get about or close to 400 Episodes give or take. One Piece was always begging for a remake.

Imagine how much better OP anime could be if they reedited and condensed everything to something like this. It'd be amazing. Im all for it. But it makes me wonder. Maybe they'll have WIT Studios do the first half while Toei focuses on improving the second. Would certainly make rewatching it better and finally get all the naysayers who don't want to watch 1000 Episodes to finally budge.
Unfortunately animating 3 chapters into 1 episode is not possible for some chapters that do require a bit of length to kind of absorb the impact that Oda wanted to make .

This is the perfect way to do this. As someone who didn't want to watch 1000 episodes i got pretty far since i reached zou but the new world needs to be condensed that's why i haven't carried it on past zou cause the episodes are so long post timeskip that i feel to just read it but it don't feel the same compared to watching it
Wano and onwards deserves to be as long as it is for the quality, the rest needs a remake.
A wano with only 50 episodes would be such a *rollercoaster* 😏
Even if you are an anime only, anyone with the virtue of patience would see how this results in a much more enjoyable experience for you in the long run.
Specialy when some fanbases have to wait 2 or 3 years to see the next season of their show
To the point that I'm not even really much of a One Piece watcher yet, But knowing the fact that someone in the production has redrawn these scenes from the time skip truly is showing how much One Piece as a series improves their visuals.
The Gorosei’s entrance scene is gonna be utterly insane.
God it was unbelievable in the manga I cant even fathom how hard it will be in the anime
Punk Hazard and Dressrosa needs a remake with its pacing as well.
Also it gives Oda sensei a few months to get ahead with Elbaf so when it comes time to adapt it they have content to go from the get go.
I think Toei probably heard about One Pace on discord and though why not do it ourselves? It will be official, it will be easier for new watchers to get into without feeling overwhelmed by the episode count and allowing animators to flex their creative muscles on prior arcs would allow it to be a GOAT show for future generations.

Before Wit's remake was announced, I thought Toei would do this type of edits for every arc. Maybe there's something there.
Also, they took a break during covid.
Edit: I just thought it would be after the series ended, and probably straight to dvd/streaming.

At that point the meme about my children being able to witness the end of One Piece becomes true.

The Fishman arc is what Nux calls a FLEX arc basically just time skip flexing and it did it's job BUT holy crap if it is going to look like recent One Piece YES PLEASE!!!

Seeing Toei finally change their old habit gives me hope that they'll do a remake of World Trigger's first season because they did it so dirty, despite how unlikely that'll be 😢
I couldnt get into world trigger it just feels so slow and the lack of osts and music and atmosphere it just feels weird

Second best piece of advice: it's a slow burn at the start as it slowly reveals the power system and huge cast to you but as soon as you get to the invasion arc everything starts paying off in the best way possible.
Or maybe you got to that point. WT was the first anime I've ever watched so I didn't have much of a standard yet and that was like 7 years ago, so I have no idea when certain arcs start happening in the anime. The manga is great though 👍
Yup i love world trigger too. There must been a strong reason why its manga still survive till these days. If only the anime adaptation doing justice to the original source material
As someone who has been fascinated by One Piece since high school and who loved the recent Live action remake but never really had the motivation or the time to start watching the original I will 100% be watching "The One Piece" as it releases so I'm really excited.
Dressrossa and Whole cake would’ve been so peak if remade with better pacing and animation. Maybe not so much Whole cake but Dressrossa definitely.
Remember how there was a filler arc before Dressrosa only for it to turn out to be 3 episodes and the 3rd had canon material? I can’t imagine how Toei thought that would help with pacing. Adding canon material to filler episodes defeats the purpose of filler. 🤦
The point of Toei doing stuff like that had nothing to do with pacing. Toei almost NEVER had the luxury to pace the show how they wanted. Anime should never start as soon as 2 years after the manga started. Their pacing is dictated by the rate the mangaka can release chapters. If the anime moves too fast that leads to different problems than what they've been having. The Remake has more freedom than Toei can dream of. 27+ years of material for WIT Studios to make One Piece as good as they want it to be. A six month hiatus is probably the best thing they can ask for. That widens their typical 40+ chapter gap from the manga to nearly 60+ chapter gap. That will give them more room to pick up the pace, not as much as we might want but it will be significant
@@ReiseLukas Toei wasn't forced to keep releasing OP weakly. They could've chosen to release 40eps/yr but they don't do that. Toei's pacing is controlled by the manga chapter releases cos the company is too greedy to stop and take breaks.
@@anonisnoone6125 A studio isn't making anime out of the goodness of their hearts, they need to make money or else no anime. Breaks cost a lot of money. Toei is finally in a situation where they're forced to accept that a break is the best course of action overall, for business and quality of the product.
@ReiseLukas You know what would give them even more money? An anime that people want to watch. The amount of people I've seen that don't watch One Piece purely due to the pacing and length is insane, a LOT more people would give One Piece a chance if it was shorter

For the most part I agree with most the points you made in this video! I think that this hiatus the one piece anime is taking for the next few weeks is a good thing and will definitely help improve the quality of their production for the second half of egghead! I’m also really excited for the new remastered version of egghead and think it was something that was very much needed! However I don’t think the view the new Netflix remake as a threat! In fact Toei probably wants The One Piece to do well since they are an active part of the production committee!
Honestly I’m down for this. Fisherman’s island really did have some awful pacing and wasn’t well animated. Toei seems to realize that One Piece is now global. They aren’t the sole producers of the content outside the manga with the Netflix series and the Wit remake. They know that if they need to adapt and change. And honestly I’m all for it.
The production schedule for weekly anime have always been a big problem. Folks cite Hunter x Hunter 2011 but the problem is that series was an outlier. You had a very good schedule and a lot of completed material, plus some talented animators. The current OP anime does have the talent.
But as it stands, the schedule isn’t enough. All in all, I hope this works out for them. Because I can see this being beneficial for Toei as it gives Oda more time for manga chapters and possibly will be the end on ongoing weekly anime.
I used to watch the Toei anime years ago but ngl I'd love a remake without the filler and with more consistent animation.
My only concern now is Oda, we're getting less and less chapters per year. Even if the Toei OP anime slows down to a seasonal format, I doubt they'd go below 24 episodes a year. Problem is, Oda only creates about 30 chapters a year. Sure, it would be better than 0.5 chapters/episode, but 1 chapter/episode is still a terrible pace compared to other Shonen. Best case scenario (for us manga readers, sorry anime-onlies) they give each pre-Wano post-timeskip arc a remake. Between Dressrosa and Whole Cake, they would buy themselves a considerable amount of time to fall behind on the current manga.
If they adapt 2-3 chapters/episode for these remakes, it should take them about a year and a half to go through them alone. With the other arcs, they could easily pass 2 years, and if they stop making an episode a week, it could easily take 3 years. Then, we'd have enough backlog for 3 whole years of 2 chapters/episode modern OP. If they switch that to a 24 episodes/year format too, we might actually make it to the end of the series at 2-3 chapters/episode.
And this break will help people gorge in more chapters as they wait for it to be animated, I will patiently wait 😄

Nobody gonna jump ship from the toei version of the one piece anime to the wit studio version unless they are currently caught up to the manga or are going to catch up soon they might watch both at once i know i will but im not going to stop watching the toei version Everybody who watches the toei animation version of one piece only and doesn't read the manga wants to know how one piece is gonna end. And nobody's gonna jump ship just because it has better or higher quality animation, you'd have to wait forever for it to catch up.
Jump ship to the manga or the new anime version I mean. If The One Piece Remake is well accepted. It could overshadow the Toei anime version

The primary purpose of any anime is to sell the manga. I read the manga to find out what happens next. I barely watch the anime anymore outside clips. I definitely will move on from the Toei adaptation when WIT releases The One Piece, especially if WIT's adaptation is good.

nah, its bc toei and shueisha want luffy basically become their new goku, they likely realized how big is one piece potential to appeal to the masses just like dragon ball, but could not reach it bc things like a long anime and old animation, that's why this thing has now, a full blown remake since the east blue, an overall look overhaul of the main anime since wano, a remastered of old sagas likely just a bit less spectacular than the wit remake, a frickin live action if you don't even like anime, a movie every 1-2 years, and a whole worldwide marketing machinery, and probably bandai is working on game with fighterz/sparking zero lvl ambition for one piece too
This is actually more cost efficient for Toei, since they are mostly are just gonna draw over the Fishman which will take less work than actually redoing everything ground up. The Lay outing and basically everything is done so it will take less people doing basically the remastered Fish man arc.
Unless of course they will make new animations for the fight scenes.

This is such good news! The anime has been needing an hiatus for sooo long to let the manga get more ahead. And while I never enjoyed Fishman Island that much even in the manga I hope this goes well so they might redo the arcs after as well.
My main criticism with One Piece Anime and the new style that has shown up since Wano, is the aura effects and laser beams. It seems based on one of the preview images, we will be getting these aura & laser beams in the remaster. That means Fishmen Isle will have these haki auras and lasers that were originally not there.
This could be the main thing that puts me off from watching it. The pacing and sound effect improvements are definitely a big plus and motivator for me to watch it weekly. But I signed up for silly pirate battles. Not DBZ Ki battles. And Toei has shifted towards Dragonball Supers style of fighting in the past couple years.
"How do we display that X is stronger than Y? Give them a more flashy and annoying aura around them. Color it differently as well! Make it have an annoying sound effect and flash the viewers eyeballs for good measure."
Luckily for me, even if the remaster doesn't suit me. I still have the Remake to look forward to, made by a completely different studio (very unlikely Wit Studio will also include DBZ auras). And even if that fails to live up to my expectations...I still have the Manga.
I say all this criticism, as one of the biggest One Piece fans.
Sound effect are just reused DBZ stuff which I hate. One Piece should have its own SFX thats recognizable for the show.
I hope you're fully understanding that you're in a minority thinking it's either shit, offputting, or annoying. This is going to pull in SO many fans to actually caring to watch fishman island.

I always felt bad for not liking a lot of the Wano/Egghead fights. There's clearly a lot of effort but my eyes glaze over at all the effects

What really peaked my interests was the fact that they might FINALLY fix its pacing after its 25 year run, absolutely insane if they end up fixing it for the final saga, the anime is going to catch up real quick.

I think one fact that has gone under the radar and underappreciated is that for the last 11 episodes, NONE of the Straw Hats were present in a single frame of any episode. That's TEN main cast members that have not appeared! Which other anime/manga can boast of a such a strong cast of side characters?
Moreover, this is NOT the first time this has happened! During Oden's backstory, in the 900s, none of the main cast was present for an even longer duration!!
These remakes needed to be done for quality control reasons.
I actually love this. 6 months off will let Oda get the manga further from the anime, the staff working on Egghead will get all this time to completely crush the rest of the arc. The remake of the Fishman Island arc and beyond will do WONDERS for the post time skip arcs. And personally, I'm most excited about seeing bikini top Nami in the new art style for MANY EPISODES.

It would honestly be really cool if they work on all timeskip material, readapting all the arcs up until wano with wano artystyle and animation, whilst wit does pre-timeskip remake stuff in their art style and animation.
This break will really work out in the long run considering how honestly close the anime is to wrapping up egghead. All the anime needs to cover now is the the egghead incident and Kumas flashback. We'll be knee deep in elbalf in the manga

With this better pacing I'm just glad that the anime and animators alike are going to get better taken care of in general.
The animehiatus will be more beneficial as the manga will get more time before anime starts catching up.
And speading that hiatus releasing the previous arcs arcs with updated visuals and less filler is smart way to do it.
The flights coming up are insane so I'm happy with them taking their time to create something better.
Man, it would be so sick if toei remakes post-ts basically in tandem with wit remaking pre-ts, so by the time theyre both done we have a complete, beautiful, well-paced one piece.
i would rather have wit do pre and post all together, toei is good but i dont want them to do any of the remakes, just help out is enough

We have a live action, one piece remake, manga still very strong, anime looking like a movie each week. i would say keep Katakuri's observation haki sound effect bc it sounds so good even though it first came up during drum island. But yeah most sounds like the explosion blasts and heavy footsteps sound really outdated

This is great news for the new one piece fans. I stopped watching the anime and switch over to the manga during the fisherman island arc cause the pacing was so slow.
I gotta say toei has gotta be the BEST animation studio I mean I do not know how their animators are able to keep up with this like HOW IS IT ALREADY RELEASING plus there have not been any scandals it abttgubg its truly remarkable
As an avid one piece watcher I am totally down for this and am prpared to rewatch these "new" episodes and am waiting patiently for the wit version to, but thinking about people who wanna start or are very early into one piece this is gonna be really confusing

I'm honestly surprised they're going this route. With the Pre-Timeskip content they went the route of 'Episode of' tv specials that were basically just arcs turned into movies. I kind of just assumed they'd do that post timeskip too eventually, though I guess with how long those arcs get it, it kind of makes sense to do them as condensed episodes instead.
I think this hiatus is mainly for increasing the gap between the anime and the manga. If they're aiming for quality, then they're probably going to improve the pacing, which means they need more material to adapt.
Fishman island is underrated. It has a lot of good moments and characters. Hachi, Camie, Sharly, Pappagu, Neptune-jamon. We got Arlong's backstory with Fisher Tiger and Jinbe. Oh, Mjosgard. On the side of friendly competition, I was under the impression that Toei was involved in the project in some fashion, even if it just means they only get a cut of the revenue, so I’m not so sure about that reason, but regardless of the motivations, it’s a positive outcome so I’m all for it. If honestly they could do that more often, meaning breaks for the anime replaced by a remastered version of certain arcs like Dressrosa, that would be so good
Make sense that they Hiatus. The Anime is really going close to the manga. I wouldn't even mind if One-Piece go seasonal for now on.

I recently got to Dressrosa, and the animation up to this point is very enjoyable. The fishman Island arc is one of the best paced arcs of the post time skip. Each episode had good progression, and I admit the beginning was a bit long until they got to the actual Island but it was funny with the Fake crew and the world building of the underwater world. I haven't gotten to the new animation but I like the old animation still a bit better since its just One Piece charm where in the New animtion Nami and Robin look way to weird.
I can totally see how once fishman island ends and egghead part 2 starts that the other team will be working on punk hazard remake so that it can air after egghead to have a gap before starting Elbaf and then if Elbaf has a chance or they think it's reasonable to make Dressrosa they will do that and bring it during a break!
The fact One Piece has been going on consistently for years is nuts to hear it's going on Hiatus. They should have gone seasonal years ago or at least two seasons a year.
Tori has every right to be afraid cause the remake looks ridiculously good, and doesn't have to worry about catching up so it can be concise as it needs to be.
Toei as well as the rest the people involved with One Piece anime, you know Shueisha and the TV studio are working together as a collab. The whole point is for you to jump from the wit anime then if you can’t wait you move into the Toei anime or the manga. It’s not about competition, it’s about creating more one piece fans with a more palatable experience.
Toei has been remaking saga since the beginning starting with Episode of East blue. Those are pretty good as far refreshers go but also didn’t hit the same emotional beats with movie length. With the length of newer arcs and how quick they can finish a movie remake it was probably smarter to do weekly episodes to keep one piece on air during the hiatus.

Aw come on Chibi, show the Zou Arc some love.
Zou arc was better than Thriller Bark and Fishman Island. Only because it was appropriately shorter to give way on what the other crew did and to set up both WCI and Wano.
I mention Thriller Bark because while I love the theme the story felt like it was. On pause. Like. Going through the episodes it was so dragged out that only 5-7 minutes had anything actually happen. The episodes were plagued by recaps and just. Long stare downs.
My older brother stopped watching One Piece around Fishman island. He has no excuse to get back on now

I think toei always wanted one piece to be seasonal, it was shuesha and fujitv who was against the idea for a long time bc it made them tons of money via commercial ads in between when the new episode is airing but I think now that one piece is so popular they’ve allowed toei to take this needed time to work on a better quality egghead. Toei definitely needed to convince them tho cause this isn’t seasonal still and they needed a solution for the time slot one piece was gonna leave behind and I guess their solution for the empty time slot is basically just re airing pass one piece episodes but with better quality and pacing. If this was suggested years ago I don’t think shuesha and fujitv would agree but since one piece is so much bigger now they definitely have more confidence that despite replay episodes from way back people will still watch it and they’ll still be able to make money off commercials. It definitely helps that toei fixed up the episodes that are about to air cause it gives the fans something new to look forward to. I always found it funny that toei gets blamed for everything while shuesha and fujitv selfishly makes their money literally hiding behind the animation company. Letting toei take all the backlash while they count their money is kinda crazy…their greed be showing.
