Hey dude! Hadn’t seen your videos in a while. Looking fit! Good on ya!
I got an ad for the wedge mouthpiece right before this video lmao.
Same br
Maybe they should send me one to review lol
@Ashton-Joseph Alexander I wouldn't be any better off if I switched to a shallow piece now either. 7c for me.
"Oh wow, a Trent Hamilton video. Haven't checked him out in a while... who's this stickbug?"
It seems he's been exercising, good on him!
@@esteban_osman Or eating better, or both. :)
Getting ready to spend some time touring with the Troopers Drum and Bugle corps. Your videos have been a huge motivation for my brass playing journey. Keep it up Trent!
Congratulations on getting contracted!
@@sceu25 Thank you! It was a roller coaster to say the least, I was initially contracted for the 2020 season and I'm very thankful that I am still able to participate
Nice man! I'll see you out on the road ;)
I marched a King K-90 contra in 2001. It was so amazing. HLD.
@@jomarluke That's fantastic! keep an eye out for troop this season. Wonderful things are going to happen. >"
Another great show, Mr. Hamilton!
Great video as always. There isn't a hell of a lot of brass representation on youtube so it's always good to see you posting.
I have two wedges - one for baritone and one for cornet. The contour is supposed to arch top to bottom. Feels nice and big once you get used to it.
I tried one out for euphonium. I liked it, but I didn’t keep using it because the throat was too large for me to play soft easily and it didn’t change my playing much (mostly the first reason, because it was still a well made mouthpiece).
I believe the "wrong" way on the Boosey and Co mouthpiece where it goes opposite the contour of your face is actually the intended use. At least I believe that's how it is with the similar Wedge mouthpieces which surprised me.
Yep. That’s the way wedge mouthpiece is- allows corners of your mouth more freedom.
I was just watching an old video of yours, i went on to your channel to find you uploaded a video 32 seconds ago! What are the odds.
Wow, I haven't watched in a few months, so I guess you could say I've been seeing less of you. But there's definitely less of you to see these days. Looking great Trent!
Great Demo Trent, love your approach, dry wit and sense of humour. I am hooked on your very down to earth reviews they are contageous and ask the questions that aspiring run of the mill players enjoy. Keep em coming, Sir.
If the Boosey is like the Wedge, then it is supposed to be played vertically, the way you preferred, not horizontally like you assumed was intended.
I bought an "Asymmetric" mouthpiece years ago when they only offered one size. It did nothing for me at all. Might work for some to extend their range, but not me. I have a Wedge mouthpiece for my trumpet and my flugelhorn. I went an a search for the Holy Grail of mouthpieces over several years. I even tried a wooden mouthpiece. (I wouldn't recommend it.) The Wedge mouthpiece is the mouthpiece I finally settled on. I bought one for my trumpet and played on it for about six months, then bought one for my flugel as well. My Trumpet mouthpiece is a clear acrylic Wedge and the flugel mouthpiece is a black delrin mouthpiece that goes well with my black nickel plated flugel. As always, I enjoy your videos and the insights you share. I believe the Wedge mouthpieces have improved my range, endurance, and produced a little darker tone, which is what I was going for.
I've noticed that my teeth could possibly be a hindering factor in my playing. With low brass this is not a problem since the mouthpiece is large enough, but with my trumpet playing my two front teeth are slightly offset and angled in a strange way. Maybe experimenting with mouthpieces could help improve my trumpet playing.
Have you tried shifting the mouthpiece about five millimeters to the side? Some classical players have said their teeth necessitate a slightly lateral emboucher
I had a similar problem, and I agree with the commenter above me, moving to the side a bit might help, because I started playing to the right and it helped
Yeah me too, over bite with upper teeth misaligned and I've always struggled until I switched to low brass.
A cornet player I know plays with her mouthpiece a good half inch off centre (to the side) - it could well be that she also has an asymmetric shape to her front teeth. It looks weird, viewed from the outside, but it works for her, so it might be worth you trying a different placement before you start spending your hard-earned cash on mouthpieces. HTH.
Interesting, and thank you. Also, thanks for the wise comments at the end about trying a mouthpiece. It takes time.
You already have a well centered embouchure. I think different mouthpieces will not hurt you that much. Imagine a beginner going on a mouthpiece safari.
I have the Cauffman. It's actually helped my range and upper register endurance a lot!
It had been a while since I seen one of your videos and I wanted to check in on how are ya doing..and my god have I never seen you in a such amazing shape! Bravo!
He looks like he’s been progress for himself! Good on him!
comparing the Boosey "wedge" to the actual wedge mouthpiece, when you mentioned playing the mouthpiece the "wrong" orientation, that actually is the imposition you want to use on the Wedge mouthpiece. The rim should sort of fall away from the sides.
David Harrison actually stamps a DOT on the rim for the correct way to play the mouthpiece.
Could it be that the Boosey was actually meant to play in this position, also?
As the parent of a teen brass player, I am utterly perplexed about her trying new mouthpieces. There are several fine brands offering a nearly endless variety of mouthpiece models. How do we pick a new horn mouthpiece from all those choices? And then what about trumpet mouthpieces? Are there ones that will help her playing while also being less "detrimental" to her horn embouchure? But then how do we test how they play? We can't just walk into our wonderful local music shop and ask to see all of their horn mouthpieces under $150. They'll show us the two in the case and offer to order anything else. How do mere mortals go about this process without totally guessing?!!!
Why process the horn sounds? Our USA Trent (Austin) always mentions the sound is raw and not doctored. Always a clear edit here between speech and horn sounds.
I don't think he processes the horn sounds. He just puts a noise filter in the recording so we only get the sounds from the instrument and no white noise.
Ooh, jazz trumpet players love these asymmetrical mouthpieces. Miles Davis actually played one which had the cup at an angle so that he could play his trumpet pointed downward, I’ve got a signature model and it’s one of my favorites for ballads. It’s got a lovely soft tone.
I find myself constantly playing with the bell pointed downward, however I don't play with a similar mouthpiece to Miles. Perhaps a correction to my posture might br useful
Love my Wedge S59 (bass trombone) and 4G (tenor trombone).
Hi! What do you think about Galileo Dolce trumpets?
Hell yeah. You look great, man.
I have always thought that there must be a better design than the standard with 360 degree rotational symmetry. Just seems like the first idea someone had, that stuck with us till now. Not sure any of these are the solution, but I think there’s some as-yet uninvented mouthpiece that is just so much better than everything else BECAUSE of its asymmetricality
Woah you look so different super fit Mann!
Where did you pick up that Easy Playing Conn? Is there one for trumpet?
lol yup! Tried many Lynch mps...sold them all in ebay.
Where can I buy a Cauffman Parabolic 1K Mouthpiece?
lookin fit Trent good on ya mate
Does anyone know what he's playing
That mouthpiece, the Boosey and Co. 5L, if it were similar to the WEDGE mouthpiece, should have been played rotated 90 degrees from what you had demonstrated at marker 9:36 of the video. The theory here is to have only the front of the lips touching the mouthpiece with any significant force. According to the WEDGE literature, this has the effect of sustaining endurance and facilitating the maximum playing range. I play the Bass-trombone and use the WEDGE equivalent of a Schilke 59 and also that of a Bach 1.5 G (WEDGE models S59 and 1.5G, respectively). I find that these are an improvement over their namesake originals. Note that there is a limit to the effectiveness to the oval mouthpiece design, in that the bigger the mouthpiece, the less benefit there is in the oval versus the round shape.
Lookin fire bro
Nice piece of music-title?
Gabriel’s Oboe
Thank you for that. I was interested in the "wedge" mouthpiece info-mercial but your overall comments reflect my own skepticism. True value on youTube. You're looking skinny - too much practice or hopefully not some underlying issues. We need your insights ! Blow hard !
Looking good dude.
Looks like someone lost some weight, looking good, love your videos.

Great video, you look fit! Love your playing!
Holy fuck
Your face must feel uncomfortable all the time. I don't know about you, but when I'm trying new mouthpieces, my face just feels funny for a long time.
Also, you should try the Wedge mouthpieces. The rim is contoured to your face, but the bite changes as it goes around thereby negating the stuffy feeling. They feel really good.
I haven't watched for a few months and your a different person
Don't ask where Trent is
Do a piece on a CONTRABASS TRUMPET in F.... if you dare.....
Second per frame lol
Oh dang u lost a lot of weight since the last time I watched ur yt videos
That ONE dislike
it's always the one lol
Maybe they were just overly enthusiastic about the wedge and were upset he didnt test it lol
who can hear their 1st music instructor telling them how important their mouthpiece is when they hear Trent speak?
Forget the brass videos, you'll make a fortune from slimming videos! ;)
I’ve noticed that some of tho old mouthpieces has the silver plating worn off. Please for your health do not use them.Either you get it replated or throw them out. Raw brass onto lips will do nasty 🤢 things to your skin. Also the main thing is those old mouthpieces the brass has lead in it. Saliva touching raw brass will leach out the lead and will go into your blood stream.
Sources for your claims?
Just google it lots of info. Also I been in the brass instrument repairs for over thirty years here in Canada . I have asked medical professionals and they said yes.
I just noticed that your logos colours are like Estonia’s national flag 🇪🇪. Our government decided that it is a good idea to disband our military band and police and border control orchestra to save money. Going on a protest tomorrow and play some music.
Now you've just reminded me of Estonia's contributions to music. Estonia, f*ck yeah!
"Let's try it with a below bulge"
Um...
Be careful Trent!, if you keep losing weight you are going to disappear!!!!!!!!!!!
once an good
educator and an excellent player has become a merch and music store salesman. while the first two are still true the last two erode my trust in you, trent and disappoint me..
They are all gimmicks. None of the great players ever played on anything but a round mouthpiece. The highly marketed Wedge Mouthpiece is the latest one on the market. Don' t waste your money.
Yes, because none of the great players ever had a mouthpiece like this that existed then. Good example of the fallacy of nonexistence.
But to be fair, it all depends on what is best for the player. Every player's embouchure is different.
If this is a scam, then we'll see a lot of people complaining about it.
@@TornaitSuperBird I guess you didn't watch Trent' s video. Those mouthpieces have been around for years. Some over 100 years. And yes I' m complaining about Wedges. I tried them on 2 different occasions I found them to be extremely uncomfortable and did not do anything they claimed to do. If you have some freakish dental deformity they might help but for 99.9 percent of players they do nothing or make you play worse.
I like my wedge mouthpiece and find it easier to play higher notes than with the Denis wick no 3.
