- Where's the Orchestra & The Downeaster Alexa, Billy Joel & Violinist Itzhak Perlman, Madison Square Garden, New York, February 20th, 2020; MSG Residency; 73rd Consecutive Monthly Show at Madison Square Garden
Lucky crowd , seen Billy many times and never heard Wheres the Orchestra it's awesome he did it. Crowds need to start cheering for the obscure deep tracks during these shows.
I for one, would like to attend a show with primarily "album tracks." James, Honesty, Sleeping With the Television On.....
@@doncardoza7663 - He should do an album tracks Garden show for the die hards. Wont happen though.
Billy loves the album tracks himself. The problem is he does way too many of these "audience choices." And he typically does it by album. So, he'll say would you rather hear "Roberta" or "The Entertainer" off Streetlife Seranade. And everyone is going to pick "The Entertainer." He will usually mix in some deep tracks but he goes on a run where he'll play the same song several shows in a row. When I last saw him in early 2018 he was on a big "Stop in Nevada" kick off the Piano Man album. The one hit I could really do without every show is "We Didn't Start the Fire." The music has almost nothing to it and while the lyrics are great, the vocal is nothing special. But people go nuts when he comes out for an encore and leads with that. I still love Billy and he puts on an amazing show, but I agree, I wish we had some more deep cuts.
Jim Powers - agreed! That’s a concert I would definitely attend.
Evan Feuerstein - agreed. While “River of Dreams,” is popular and regularly played at his shows, I’d like to hear “All About Soul” played live from time to time.
I was there. Absolute highlight of the night.
I Love this song! reminds me of my Uncle who was a farmer in Ireland- they stopped him from keeping cattle all winter, some phoney regulations, the farm was running fine for 200 years, the government wants to close small farms. so sad
One of Billy’s most poignant songs, made even moreso by the beautiful, expressive artistry of the great Mr. Perlman.
WTO is arguably the best song on his best album.... this is unreal. Thank you for posting this...
Bro this song...
Mr Perlman filled with happiness extending through the violin delights my soul. Great performance gentlemen. Thank you for your music 🎶
I went to this concert, it was crazy. The Downeaster Alexa is my favourite song, and hearing it live was one of the best experiences of my life, if not the best. Thank you for uploading this, it's great to have a good recording of the concert I was at.
Most enjoyable performance by two fantastic musicians. Beautiful, beautiful violin.
It would be a dream come true to see these two live
Absolutely beautiful, by far my favorite Billy Joel song, and now Is in another level ❤
Wow! Two of my all time favorite musicians on the same stage. Love it. Good camera work too!

Was here..... second time seeing him....
Very beautiful! I like 👍 i like very, very much Ithzak Perlman 🌹 Bravo Billy Joel!
He's the best 😊
Talenti. Talenti. Talenti. Talenti. Talenti. 🎹 🎻
2 talenti assoluti nel loro genere .... Veramente una goduria !
Beast on wheels
Although this is a wonderful arrangement featuring Violinist Itzhak Perlman, IMHO I believe "Where's the Orchestra" is best performed as a piano accompanied solo to capture the full feeling of its lonely and isolating theme!
For my money it's worth it just for the few bars of Allentown which is such a emotionally isolated thing at least for me
Overdue credit😂
Has he ever done this live before?
Gaba
Man, they are all so old. Im 52 by the way😂
Where's the orchestra?
Wasn't this supposed to be a musical?
Here I am
In the balcony,
How the hell could I have missed the overture?
I like the scenery
Even though, I have absolutely no, idea at all,
What is being said, despite the dialogue,
There's the leading man
The movie star who never faced an audience
Where's the orchestra?
After all, this is my big night on the town
My introduction to the theatre crowd
I assumed that the show would have a song
So I was wrong
At least I understand
All the innuendo and the irony
And I appreciate,
The roles the actors played
The point the author made
And after the closing lines,
And after the curtain calls,
The curtain falls
On empty chairs,
Where's the orchestra?
Just a perfect song and album.
That’s the oddest couple musically. I feel like I’m listening with two heads.
This song is lacking Liberty DeVitto power and magic.
