Karnazes is born without Lactic acid in his body, so thats kinda like cheating when it comes to physical endurance and exercise. other people have lactic acid: gives u sign to STOP exercising, it can become too much for ur body! get it. Karnazes has this gift in life born without lactic acid. I try to run now every day 2rounds of 20min and my legs hurt like hell. sometimes I can not run the other day. I have to wait or 2 days waiting, then running again for 2rounds of 20min or more. thats it. an normal marathon of 27miles is waaay too much for normal people, left alone ultramarathon like Karnazes... respect to this man!
Ado Podrinje - lol he was not born without lactic acid! You and Dean need to read up on lactic acid. If Dean didn’t produce lactic acid, he would not be able to run any long distances. Lactic acid is created when your body breaks down carbohydrates for energy. His body simply flushes it out because he runs at a pace well above his ‘lactic acid threshold’. Other than that he’s an expert in fueling and pacing and has tremendous mental and physical toughness which a lot of extreme endurance athletes have. His body utilizes fat stores and carbohydrate stores just like everyone else’s.
tbh lactic acid is to prevent from damaging your body, like any pain. So if you wouldn't have pain and run, you could literally run to death, because you wouldn't know when to slow down or stop. So it's good to feel that pain, it says that your body is reaching some limits and then it's up to your will power to ignore and say - hey, I will go further and expand my limits.
then Dean is lying here when he says: ive been sliced and diced, and what they found out? I do know that I have maybe too much lactic acid then. same as Dean could probably DIE too early cuz he's over-using his legs when it comes to running. I once met Dean Karnazes. During his run across America from Disneyland in California to New York, he stopped in about 12 different cities to do a charity 5K to give his fans a chance to run with him. One of those 5Ks was in my city in the Midwest. I got there early and managed to get a spot right up front right next to Dean. We had a very pleasant 15 minute conversation about running, nutrition, the logistics of his crazy distance runs, shoes, gear and everything else. I found him to be one of the nicest, funniest, most polite gentlemen I have ever met. I could have talked to him for much longer, but decided to give others a chance at him. I considered it an honor and a privelige to run next to the great Dean Karnazes. I paraphrase someone else (can't remember who said it first) and describe it as being like setting up an easel next to Picasso, shooting hoops with Michael Jordan, sitting down at a piano with David Benoit. He really is a down-to-earth cool guy.
Anyone who thinks the body only has a limited number of foot strikes, etc, needs to lie in a bed for a month, and then try to walk. You'll need physical therapy just to be able to take one step again. It's inactivity that weakens the body, not activity (which cause cells to regenerate).
I call bullshit. I ran for 35 years and my knees are destroyed. They sound like ratchet wrenches when I bend my legs, give out on me under a load, and are like an 80-year old's.......and I'm only 53. I had the fortune to get to know him a little at a fitness spa called Rancho la Puerta, where my husband and I present concerts in exchange for stays. Dean was a guest presenter one time we were there and presented a talk and that newer book, and ran with guests. He’s a truly nice, gentle and humble guy despite some forces on the internet that try to portray him differently. He makes fun of how slow he runs and makes no claims to anything but what he loves to do. The book explains that his unique body chemistry that predisposes him to this was evident when he was a little kid, like in kindergarten, and ran around the schoolyard endlessly, effortlessly, to raise some money or something. So that 30 mi run wasn’t something as out of the blue as it sounds. Martha

👍He’a fantastic. Super human.🤩💝 👍I understand his perspective when it comes to “things” & material possessions etc. He’s such an inspiration. I see people hating on dean because he's not running as fast as an athlete who has been trained for most of their early teens till late 20s before they putter out because of "age" dean started at 38 homie he's straight Killin it for his age considering he could compete and still have a chance because he doesn't build up lactic acid pretty much at all so he's the definition of a persistence hunter because everyone else will get tired and need that break every once and a while while dean can just keep going
as a runner, i find it amazing that Dean is a heelstriker and not a forefoot runner. jesus, one heelstrike when i run and the pain shoots right up through my knees
I dunno. I mean, first, I love this. This guy is amazing. But, it’s well known that the most extreme body builders often die early. Obviously, this is aerobic exercise, but based on the way he describes how he treats his body, I think he might well wear his body out early. But it’s still incredible.

He is one of us..Greek..its in his blood to run!
The US Government: We will watch your career with great interest.
No other animal comes remotely close to just how long humans can run. It's what we evolved to do, in my opinion it defines us as much as the discovery of fire and tools. This man would be the goat even a million years ago when all we did was constantly move.
👍He’a fantastic. Super human.🤩💝
👍I understand his perspective when it comes to “things” & material possessions etc. He’s such an inspiration.
Interestingly, as far as the no sweating and lack of lactic acid buildup, I have a similar experience. I didn’t know it was a thing. I’m not no where near his his level, but I can go & I don’t get thirsty easily while hiking, running or working out. I think I can do better. I will do better. 💝
Super human.
Or being human is super.
Me thinking I am killing it because I run a half marathon 4x a week at 9:30 and a 20+ mile on Saturdays now I am like I got to do better.
I want Dean Karnaze's Shoes
people living in developed countries can do whatever they want. they are free as fuck
money = happiness in the US. that's their motto to make you work harder.
Why did they censor *hit the first time, but not the second time he says it?
G Gardner lol same i was wondering that too
Same
Actually the first time he said shcunt
Terry Fox did a marathon a day for 140 days on one leg...see his youtubes
I got a side cramp watching
SystemCTRL It’s called a muscle stitch
Forest gump would be proud
I don't even run the bath before breakfast
Got a amazing .. but weird thing I just heard him from an interview 3 years previous, and he has a totally different accent
David Rich that’s because he is becoming a global citizen with all that international travel running 🏃 & other things & stuff like that
The moral of the story here is: recognising his threshold for pain is virtually zero, and then capitalising on it. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I can run marathon 4 hrs non stop, but, this guy 🤯
I like to get up in the morning and run a marathon before breakfast 👊🏻👌🏻So inspiring!!
David Goggins has a competitor
as a runner, i find it amazing that Dean is a heelstriker and not a forefoot runner. jesus, one heelstrike when i run and the pain shoots right up through my knees
This is just freaking crazy!
his face sure makes it look like he runs a marathon a day
I dunno.
I mean, first, I love this. This guy is amazing.
But, it’s well known that the most extreme body builders often die early. Obviously, this is aerobic exercise, but based on the way he describes how he treats his body, I think he might well wear his body out early.
But it’s still incredible.
Only man with more mileage than his own car! Much respect
I have more mileage than my car too, I don't have a car
@@giuseppeforte8687 Bro...
No one has matched this man's running portfolio. Look up this records. They are insane.
Live in the now... thank you.
He's unique in the mention of lactic acid here, but also you can tell he has a strong gut from reading his book and how he eats while running.
So he feels the pain of muscle ache but not the burn?
Ye. So say if you're doing curls, your muscle ache, then the lactic acid takes its role and no longer allows you to curl any more. He just feels the pain and doesmt have the lactic acide to stop him
The difference between soreness and sharp pain
This guys physical abilities and abnormalities are every runners dream
Sir welcome to our Trail !
This guy: runs a marathon before breakfast
Me: gets a cramp crawling out of bed
