Yet again another beautiful trip, beautiful boat and beautiful wife. I'm jealous. I grew up in Chilliwack and spent summer vacations on the coast. We liked it so much we moved to Campbell river and I spent ten years as a diver working up and down Georga Strait on the fish farms. My wife and me dream to spend retirement summers live aboard taking trips just like yours. I've been looking at the 2855 and 3055 but I really like the lay out of the 2855 better. How is the on the hook situation in False creek? I know it is only 14 days at a time, just wondering how it is for crowding and dingy parking?
Aaron Bergeron Hi again! We are fortunate to have a berth in False Creek so we don't have to drop the hook there. Sometimes we do it for an afternoon though. I think it is fairly routine and secure and there are lots of amenities close by, so definitely recommended. It's busy but I think there's always room for more. There are several places you can go to shore with your dinghy.
Nicely done. Wife n I bought a pocket cruiser last year. Got a lot of time on the boat. Lucky we live minutes or a couple hours from all are beautiful islands. Wondering when was the last time you guys have been to Port Brownig?
Thanks. I guess this trip was our last stop at Port Browning. We stopped at Otter Bay marina on the other side of Pender Island since then and really enjoyed it.
Yes, it's a Bayliner 285, which is about 30' LOA. Single 350 Mercruiser. Burns about 12 - 15 gallons per hour at cruise on plane (24 knots +/-) but we spend a lot of time just idling along at low speeds which burns a lot less.
Cruising on plane generally at 20 - 25 Knots depending on conditions, but we also spend a lot of time chugging along at slow displacement speeds. Between 5 and 10 Knots to take in the scenery and enjoy the ride.
Just do it! Make sure you have your charts for where you want to go, plus I would recommend the Gulf Islands Cruising Guide by Peter Vassilopoulos as a good reference. Research where you want to go and book ahead if you want a slip during peak season. Make sure you watch the weather and pick your anchorages accordingly. Have fun!
Seems like an absolute paradise for seniors.
