My home town for my first 18 years and I still love it from the other side of the planet. In Victoria Street, the swimming pool replaced a beautiful outdoor pool, refreshed from the sea. It's missed to this day.
I am lucky that I have travelled the world. However, I was born and brought up in Dunbar. Plus I came home after many years away. I love being home and this is by far the best place I have ever lived, Good old Sunny Dunny
My name is Scot. My mothers maiden name is Dunbar, and we are direct descendents of the Dunbar clan. I was born and raised in Seattle Washington and now live in Portland Oregon. I have never been to Scotland, and this video is... AWESOME!
Come across this awesome now as I've been in bed last three days these have been great to watch, as a fifer I've been to the majority of your walks.certainly lifts your spirits up, well done and thank you.👍💞
I grew up in Sunny Dunny and have friends and family there still. What with all the recent madness not been back in ages, so thanks for taking me home! By the way, those Fisher women were tough as nails. They used to carry the men out to the boats so they could at least start their fishing trip dry. There are also records of them walking through the night with those huge heavy baskets on their heads so they could get their catch sold further up the coast. Also, could be wrong, but I think that sandstone cube thing opposite the Volunteers Arms is the old well head. That street used to be pretty densely populated at one time, and few of any had indoor water. A lovely vid, thanks again!
Thank you for anotherr lovely walk. We've stayed at the campsite a few times and got the bus into Dunbar. It's great for a walk around on a sunny day. It's a beautiful place.
My Great Aunt Ella lived for years in Dunbar and my mum was born there (actually in Hedderwick Hill) in 1932. I was raised with my trans-planted mother in California and she'd tell stories of how the spirit of Black Agnes would watch over the sea-faring folk
Visited Dunbar some years ago as my Aunty lived there for a few years. Love the castle, the harbour and the walk along the coast. Also have a good friend of mine who is a resident of Sunny Dunny called Marti Morrison. Best wishes to all from Sunny Brighton & Hove.
As you were nearing the end of the video and talking about the history of the harbor entrance, there was a photo of 3 people and a child sitting on the beach and they were using the same baskets as the statue with the women and two men carrying something, and you asked about. I don't know what is is as I'm from Australia,. I love your walks and love Scotland. Thank you so much, kind regards Qld Australia.
Just loved this video. When l was a lad in the 50's & early 60's l spent all my summer holidays in Dunbar with my Grandparents. Been back a few times and is always a joy. l watch a utube channel called ''one man & his boat''. Barry is a lobster fisherman in Dunbar. Well worth a look Guys.
I was there last year for the first time, it seems like a very nice place with some nice developments happening around the harbour too. Very well connected - right next to the A1 and also on the East Coast main line. Best of East Lothian, Borders and Northumberland on the doorstep also.
Another great video! 🤩 Dunbar is now on my list for Scotland too, I absolutely love it there. 😊 Could you tell me what song you're using from 17:11?? Thank you! 💐
Been many years since i was at Dunbar its beautiful i should visit again i look for little cafes when i visit places am sure Dunbar has cafes i also like to buy sticks of rock and postcards
Jeez , what a tour, that for me was fantastic,as a child we would have bus trips to Dunbar and it was another world, when I was a late teen had a romance with a lovely lady and spent a year now and then in the place, thanks for taking me back a trip down memory lane, not a lot of changes which makes me happy,45 years ago approx seems like yesterday, keep up your travels and content superb 👍👍👍
When I worked in Torness power station I stayed in a couple of houses, and used to go in the Dolphin pub and played domino's and pool I think the boss was called Alistair it was a welcoming place ,and the locals were great
I remember as a 13yr old boy staying in Hamilton with my cousin and he brought me t Dunbar, if my memory is serving me correctly, there was a Sea water Swimming pool there, I don't remember the exact location.
It looked like a lovely day for your walk in Dunbar. It seems the sort of place I'm attracted to, although unfortunately sadly never been. The more and more I see these places in Scotland makes me want to plan a trip and visit there again. I bet I would feel the same if you toured around Wales. I fell in love there too as I did in Scotland. The Uk is so special to me. Someday, I will make it to Ireland too. Have you been? :)
I took my young nephew to North Berwick the town next to it, in the summer he actually thought we had travelled to America because some of the farmlands there in the summer looked like the great prairies 😉
VERY INTERESTING, USED SPEND SOME IN DUNBAR MANY MOONS AGO AS TEENAGER IN MY MID TEENS, I KNOW MOST OF THESE PLACES ON THE EAST COAST, AS I AM FRO EDINBURGH BUT NOW RESIDE IN THE PHILIPPINES, ONE ONE PLACE I WOULD LIKE TO SEE ON YOUR WALKS WOULD BE EYEMOUTH, WHEN I WAS IN AN ORPHANAGE, WE WOULD ALL GO THERE FOR OUR SUMMER SCHOOL HOLIDAYS, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE NOW, THAT WAS IN THE MID TO LATE FORTIES JUST LOVED THE PLACE, 👍👍👍
Remember Dunbar in the mid 8ts going there on scooter rallies camping on the old barracks ,the cement factory outside and the golf course had some great weekends there ,,,,,Stockport crusader 1st vinyl record bought was sold gold easy action by t,Red for ( Q drum roll ) 12,5p
Dunbar is lovely and we've a lot to thank one it's famous sons for..... John Muir ! For me however if it's East Lothian and the coast it has to be North Berwick with its two beaches, High st with loads of individual shops, lovely little harbour complete with boat trips to see the Bass Rock with its puffins, that iconic red East Lothian stone that so many buildings are made from, the wonderful house facades on the east beach promenade and of course just down the road Tantallon Castle and the mesmerising private beach, Seacliff were I want my ashes scattered!! Spent many happy days in North Berwick, sometimes wishing that North Sea was a bit warmer whilst swimming!! 👌😂
Beautiful spot. Did you get a chance to have that pint? Hope so. I really miss the beer from over there. My first album was "Meet the Beatles", their first. It was HiFi, not stereo. I still have it and all my Beatle albums. I was 13 when I bought it, I'll soon be 72.
I can understand why the swimming pool is on the sea front. By the look of it no sandy beach here. Visitors arriving for the day in the summer, after maybe a long trip, would fall into that pool. Suspect also the North sea can be chilly even on the warmest day. Love the look of the town. Shops smart and varied. Just puzzled by the lack of people.Doubt if I will ever make a visit but soaked up the atmosphere of the place. So thank you, much enjoyed.
There are 2 beaches in Dunbar, the East Beach which was quite rocky for a few years but sand is coming back and Belhaven Bay which is a stunning sandy beach with the bridge to nowhere.
i,m into the railways and i travel allover the place i also foto as many Red Phones boxes and Red post boxes I can find i see in the High St one of each ...
Love it . My family connection (one of ) to Scotland. John MacBean was captured at the Battle of Dunbar, put in chains and shipped to the Colonies aboard the "John and Sarah" as and sold into servitude. Good news....he did well here. 😁
When my son lived in Dunbar next to the lifeboat shed on the harbour, all that work on the battery hadn't happened.. I don't think I like what has been done. Although I am glad it has been preserved!
My sister lives here and we have visited since we where kids as beautiful as Dunbar is it always stinks of drying seaweed which aint the nicest of smells lol.
You have got to be joking about Dunbar, the town has serious problems with youth crime, alcohol abuse amongst the young in Dunbar, also drug problems, for years unemployable heavy boozers who have never done a honest days work in there lives, they lived on the dole and by other ways and means boozed on cheap ciders every opportunity they had, the Parish Council has made representations to the police in Dunbar about the boozing and crime, and all they get told we will look into it, empty promises and reassurances' even the East Lothian Courier has done articles about Dunbar and the problems that decent hard working people of Dunbar have had to put up with for many years, so lets call a spade a spade and be honest about it, the birth place of John Muire, he would be turning his grave if knew how Dunbar has turned out since his day as a boy, no wonder he and his family left for the USA and a better life, what Dunbar needs is active policing, the police station closes at 17:00 0n a Friday and reopens at 09:00 on the Monday morning when the local louts are back to the high scool giving there teachers problems, and the cider boozers are getting over there cheap cider hangovers until they sign on and get money for the next round of cider boozing, one name that is well known and sticks out is Basher he has never done a hands turn of work in his life.
I still stand by original comments with regards to Dunbar social problem's of unemployment, youth disorder such a drug's and alcohol problem, low policing priority,in days gone bye Dunbar was a close knit fishing and farming community that has all gone, fishing is in decline, farming can and is a tough business in today's society for many reasons, Dunbar population is now made of people who moved to Dunbar and who commute to Edinburgh and work in Edinburgh, but are trasiants with no deep route's in the history of the town, there lies part of the problem of Dunbar. There is still a alcohol and drugs problems in the town, with related crime problems that need to be addressed before Dunbar can move forward, that is a matter for policing to come to terms with before progress can be me made, brushing matters under the carpet by the local police at Parish Council meetings is not the way forward for them and the local community as a hole.

My dad and his brothers were brought up in the house next to the well. I'm also from Dunbar Carol.
Thank you for anotherr lovely walk. We've stayed at the campsite a few times and got the bus into Dunbar. It's great for a walk around on a sunny day. It's a beautiful place.
Another great & fantastic video of DUNBAR Scotland - voted “one of the best places in Scotland to live”!.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Lovely video Dunbar used to have an open air swimming pool near the harbour
It might be sunny, but still looks like a cold day! Thanks for the walk, hope to eventually figure out which car is yours :)
It was a bit windy!

Just had to comment as I live in Dunbar and was speaking to Marti a couple of weeks ago, small world as they say.
@@gavinbrown9917 Yes indeed it is a small world. Marti is a great Guy.
Another revelation to me. I love the harbour area and views. A unusually stressful day for me and this put me right in minutes 🙏🏻💕.
Superb stuff! Thank you!!

Looked good to me. Blue sky & cold weather, bliss. History, rocks to climb.

Appreciate walk around, 📹 video quality 👌, thank you

Easy to film places like this where it's just stunning every step of the way!
I like how the rhythmic tempo of the music matches the bouncy effects of your footsteps on the camera.
Ha ha thank you! That’s what I try for!
When I worked in Torness power station I stayed in a couple of houses, and used to go in the Dolphin pub and played domino's and pool I think the boss was called Alistair it was a welcoming place ,and the locals were great
Yes, he was called Alistair. The Dolphin is now a lovely hostel- they have a Facebook page.
The square structure after the statue is an old water fountain if i remember correctly from primary school.
I remember as a 13yr old boy staying in Hamilton with my cousin and he brought me t Dunbar, if my memory is serving me correctly, there was a Sea water Swimming pool there, I don't remember the exact location.
Beautifully shot video.
