    I really like your overhead "static cam" - no dizzy feeling while I watch!

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  8 років тому +1

      +cakymo every video i film these days (for the last couple of years actually) has a static cam version (check the show notes) :)

      +rahdo Yes indeed! But the view directly overhead is so much better that the shot from the side. Huzzah!

    Thanks for this. Really been waiting to see a runthrough to see it in action.

    9:30 warfs actually score twice : you score the largest row AND the largest column (e.g. if you have the configuration shown at 9:31 you score 12 for your row of 4 warfs and 3 for your column of 2 warfs, so 15 in total) (I think you said either column or row and it's actually both)
    Anyway great game and thanks for the runthrough

    • @PauloRenato23
      @PauloRenato23 8 років тому

      +Loïc Girardier Richard was just saying that the Straight line could be in a row or in a column and if you have 4 in either of those configurations it would score 12 points... of course, if you have more lines you'll score all the lines you have and not just one.

    • @loicgirardier1904
      @loicgirardier1904 8 років тому

      +Paulo Renato I re-listened to Richard and you're right I misunderstood him the first time ^^
      But on the scoring matter i got this from the rulebook : "you only score your longest continuous line and your longest continuous column". So you can score only two lines max, one horizontally and one vertically.

    wow Richard.
    I was looking only yesterday to see if you had done a run-through for this.
    I've ordered it yesterday.
    I think you're a sucker for city building games like me.
    small city, Suburbia are favourites of mine.

    Boy, except for the adjacency effects of the placed buildings this looks and feels like a pure abstract.

    I started out saying this game kinda looked dumb and overly easy...but as I watched I think I'm in love. Looks great.

      +PreppinShootinLivin It doesn't look dumb, but it also doesn't look fun.

    Will there be another glass lover pledge in your KS? I know what I'm ordering replacement gamerglass for this year :)

      +Alex M she's not planning on doing one of those this year actually, but you can always contact her direct for commissioned jobs at www.jenefer.net :)

    16:10 reading the rule about residences you can place them in the row or column as per the architect you used "or the floor you want to build matches the number of the Architect you play". Now I wonder since you used the architect 1, does that mean you could have placed it wherever you liked, because it was the first floor?

    Hey @Rahdo, I don't have Suburbia but it has been on my hitlist. Should I just wait for Quadropolis?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  8 років тому +1

      +MjrLeegInfidel tough call... i've done runthroughs for both though so you can contrast and compare :)

    • @TyphoidBryan

      Completely different experiences. The great thing about these city-building games is that they all 'feel' separate from one another. Suburbia is my all-time favorite, but I also love Urban Sprawl. Subdivision is also good, despite being a cousin to Suburbia! Get yourself Quadropolis, Suburbia and any other city development games you come across and have fun.

    It seems like it would be helpful if the backs were color-coded for the number of players. Do the colors mean anything?

  • @colingillespie1119
    @colingillespie1119 8 років тому

    Do those meeples / FP markers / Urbanist markers come with the game as shown? Is DoW/Asmodee muscling in on the gamer glass market?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  8 років тому

      +Colin Gillespie hehe, they're acrylic, and they are very nice. one of the few gmaes where we didn't need to pimp it out with some of jen's glass markers! :)

    Can you increase the volume of your videos? It's much lower than pretty much all other videos I watch on UA-cam

      +antimog hmm, odd. i've never noticed a problem, but then i watch everything on youtube with headphones...

    • @TheMidnightpatronus

      +antimog It's not the video. I've watched this on multiple devices with and without headphones and the volume is high enough.

  • @mccrispy

    19:23 doesn't the presence of the Urbanist block you from taking that factory?

    • @PauloRenato23
      @PauloRenato23 8 років тому +1

      +mccrispy no... the urbanist blocks the placement of Engineers on the column and the row he's in... but you can take tiles from those columns or those rows if you place the Engineers in a way to take from there like Richard did

  • @EpyonRaV
    @EpyonRaV 8 років тому

    Why have some of the tiles different back than the rest?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  8 років тому +1

      +Epyon you either put "regular" or "expert" tiles into the game, depending on which variant you're playing :)

    • @EpyonRaV
      @EpyonRaV 8 років тому

      +rahdo Ok, I thought that expert tiles are only monuments and office buildings.
      So in 1:53 the tile with brown back (top row, second from right) should be removed from the board, because you're playing "classic" variant? Because it seems like a standard apartment complex, but it has this brown back... I don't see why that particular tile should be "expert"...

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  8 років тому +1

      +Epyon yup the monuments and offices are the new tiles, and some of the old tiles have to be removed to make room for them. you can tell which ones are removed because they've got the different color back. that brown one that you mention in the rulethrough at 1:53 is one that is used in the standard game, and it would be removed so that an expert tile (which has a 3rd unique color) could be added if you were playing the expert game

    • @EpyonRaV
      @EpyonRaV 8 років тому

      +rahdo Ok, everything is clear now. Thanks!

      There are exceptions to every rule. He doesn't like conflict but he enjoys Carson City. When the game is good, it can't be denied.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  8 років тому +1

      +smoothcriminal28 yup, also, pure abstracts are out for us, but themed abstracts like this, or ...and then we held hands, or tash kalar will often go over well with us :)

    • @smoothcriminal28
      @smoothcriminal28 8 років тому

      +rahdo I have to admit that I was very surprised when I heard you say that this will probably become your favorite city builder, surpasssing Suburbia. I know how much you guys like that one.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  8 років тому

    lol, it seems a bit awkward...he is explaining the game and like "imagine i'm playing against Jen and I do this and Jen does that" and Jen is not even there....I wonder if she was there, would she let him win that easily?...

    Why is every video static cam only now??? Not a fan!

    • @Aro2220
      @Aro2220 8 років тому +1

      +spunx44 I am. Shaky cam was annoying.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  8 років тому +1

      +spunx44 generally i do the static cam-only for games that have a small footprint on the table, so i can keep the camera close. plus, it's SOOOO much easier for me to film this way. still, i think on average the static-only vids are only 1 out of every 3 or so

  • @Skarjak36
    @Skarjak36 8 років тому

    Your backtracking on moves is reaching ridiculous levels in this video. Please just show us the flow of the game, you're not playing in a championship.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  8 років тому

      +Skarjak36 sorry, i've got to film these in a way that's fun for me

    • @Skarjak36
      @Skarjak36 8 років тому

      +rahdo I understand, it's just really aggravating to watch. I find myself skipping most of the length of your videos, trying to see where the information is. They would be a great resource to see how games play if you were more wiling to live with your errors.

    • @alexguard4664
      @alexguard4664 8 років тому +4

      +Skarjak36 I personally think it's nice to see his way of thinking. It shows you the different kinds of strategies you could do just with one move. I like a touch of thinking and depth to my games, and that's why I like his runthroughs.
