This work was written just after the disastrous Tchaikovsky's marriage with a woman; he believed that it would "cure" him of his homosexuality. On the contrary, he realized he could not change who he was. He fled to Switzerland with Iosef Kotek, a violinist, and his lover. I can see in this work a declaration of love, in the same way as his Sixth Symphony (dedicated to Vladimir Davydov, his last great love). Originally he wanted to dedicate this concerto to Kotek, but changed his mind, fearing that people would guess his relationship with another man...
Whoever thinks homosexuality is a mental illness HAS a mental illness themselves. You are born the way you are and no matter how much you try to run away from that you will know deep down who you are. It is your job to love yourself unconditionally first.

One of my favorite violin concertos ever! TwoSet introduced me to it, and it is such a staple in their channel/live shows. I could listen to the first movement and cadenza 24/7!
I've been watching a bunch of recordings of this (because of TwoSet). I think the 3rd movement in particular is my new favorite song. After going on to another video that's actually on the TwoSet channel, but has very little to do with Tchaikovsky, I accidententally hit something that brought me back to here. Reading the comments, I forgot that they were on this video and was confused about why they were all about this piece. Then I remembered this was not the TwoSet video I had been watching. That says a lot about how many TwoSet comments are here. 😂
@@kristinam4178 Well people don't listen to a lot of classical music, and if they do, they are wrong to call it a song. Just use the right term you'll get used to it and it will also sound much better.
Everyone: Brett, are you ready? Brett: Dude, I'm sweating, I think I can play this! Me: Tchaikovsky, you have wrote one of the most beautiful pieces ever played by violin. Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35, 👏👏👏❤️
Peter (piotr) starts this concerto like a soft lullaby, like a gentle touch . After a while the soloist understands the mistake he made choosing to learn this . Agony followed by countless sleepless nights struggling with the partitura.... Notes flying everywhere but the precision needed to achive greatness in this piece and the level of musicality is astonishing... God help
The amount of coordination with the orchestraand.... And leading to a restriction of the "freedom" of musical expression via tempo/phrasing is crazy... All those fast ass notes typically accompanied by very difficult rhythm in the accompanying portions. Scary. Probably the difficulty of the solo itself is inconsequential compared to the coordination required on top of the musical expression required.
