Creative LED Ceiling - Design & Self Build

- In this video I am refurbishing our hallway by boarding over old artex ceiling and installing LED lighting. Rather than simply sticking to a classic white lights mode, I thought I will add some mood lighting for when it is grey and cloudy outside.
Hope my video will give ideas to people and maybe even help with their ceiling refurbishment projects. Please drop me a line in the comments section if you have any questions and I will help as much as I can.
Thanks for watching and please feel free to check my other DIY videos!
All the best! - Навчання та стиль
Looks fantastic! Great work! My only suggestion might be to swap out those WS2801 for some newer COB style addressables that will show the pixel points much less.
Man you are talented need you at my house to do my mancave ceiling lol great job
wow! job well done!
And great job
Oh yessssssss 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
Good effort 👏
Awesome
For people with questions about the LEDs themselves, maybe I can help some with that... In the video he used WS2801 model LEDs for the RGB and effects (addressable) lighting, but these are now outdated.
For the addressable RGB - I personally would recommend either going with a COB addressable strip such as a WS2811/14/15 in COB form. The pixel density of the COB strips is much greater, so it diffuses much better and it's harder to see each individual LED. If I were going to use a non-COB addressable for this, then I'd opt for a GS8208 model, because it's 12-Bit and so dimming curves are much more accurate.
For the White LEDs - Again for this I would probably opt for a COB style strip, for the same reasons I stated above. However I would be tempted to use SK6812-WWA with either 96LEDs/Meter or 144LEDs/M. The advantage of the WWA is that it can do all the cool effects of the addressable RGB strips I mentioned, but instead of using RGB, the WWA uses only Cool (W)hite/Warm (W)hite/ and (A)mber. So the advantage of the WWA is that it can do all the chasing and motion effects in variations of White and Amber, and of course it can also produce the full spectrum of White light, instead of being locked into choosing one specific color temperature for the Whites.
WWA strips are also available in 12Volt models such as WS2818-WWA or GS8208-WWA, but those two 12V models can be harder to find than SK6812-WWA which is 5V... Especially the GS8208- WWA is harder to find, and even more especially in higher pixel density such as 96LEDs/M or 144LEDs/M... If you're okay with 5V, then it's easy to find SK6812-WWA in 5V, however it's definitely not impossible to find the 12V WS2818-WWA.
In general the higher the pixel density, the easier it will be to diffuse the light without hot spots being seen.
Great comment, thanks. What controller would you propose to use for the above mentioned LED's other than Arduino or ESP, which require programming?
1 million points question:
Can we have a video to explain how the wiring is connected to the panels? 😁❤
Amazing job 👏
Wow my friend this is awesome just like your other videos, please share more of the led size of things. I want to do something similar, how did you get the led strip to fit perfectly, can you put a link to the products you bought. Thanks for the awesome content
Thanks so much for your kind comments! I will put links in the description.
Can you please post details of LED and accessories?
Wow absolutely love it. Where did you get your led strips from please.. thanks
Hello ,this is zoey from china .I can supply the led ligth strip for you .
Where did you get the led set up at? I got the plaster in frames but I’m not sure of the hard wire set up
Absolutely stunning. Do you have a guide your hallway is almost identical to mine. I would love to get this done.
Very cool work. In the middle of the video you have shown some white diffuser, but at the end of the video I don't see them, are the hidden somewhere or you decided to not use anymore?
Thanks Christian, appreciate your comment.
White diffusers came with aluminium LED channels and I have installed them in the very end (to cover LED strips, wiring etc.).
Unfortunately I did not take many pictures/videos of them being installed, but you can kind of briefly see them being cut to size and fitted from 8:14.
Hope it helps and good luck!
Love it! What would you say the cost for this project was?
Thanks! It was around £350.
Hey bro love the video can put a link to where you bought the LED please would really appreciate it
Hi,
Thanks so much for your comment.
I used SK6812 led strip with SP108E controller. Just Google it and you'll find some to buy locally to you. I got mine off eBay.
Hope it helps.
Quick question did u have to program those leds to do that color combinations and movements or they are preset and can u link the leds please
LED strip is called WS2812 and I used an addressable LED controller called SP108E. When you connect the two together (and a power supply of course) you can choose from hundreds of presets on your mobile phone. It connects via WiFi.
Alternatively you could choose SP107E controller if you want to control it via Bluetooth and have an inbuilt microphone for LED's to react to music or surrounding noises.
Just Google given part names and you'll be able to buy them from wherever in the world you live.
Good luck and have fun.
Where you got the led strip set up at please? I purchased the plaster in lights but not sure of the hard wiring
Hi Dennis,
Thanks for your comment.
I bought LED strip, controller and driver separately and put it all together myself. But I'm sure you can buy a full setup on eBay or Amazon, though you might need to cut LED strips to required lengths and solder connections.
Search for "Addressable LED" online and you should have some options to choose from.
Hope it helps.
So you need 2 sets of led strips pr channel to come up with this lighting design?
Not necessarily. It can also be one strip if it is RGBW, but I have used an RGB strip and a separate W (white) strip, because I wanted them to be controlled independently.
Hi, Is an LED driver required or would a controller be enough (SP108E)
Hi, yes LED driver is still required. SP108 is only a 12V DC controller, not a power transformer from 240V AC to 12V DC.
Bro isme cost kitna ata hai?
Where did u put the DC LED driver?
Please see 1:42 timestamp.
I’m seeing nightmares when leds are dying lol
Not at all, LED profile covers pop off very easily for maintenance. ;-)
@@DIY_it_ALL Hi, This is zoey from china .Our factory is a big LED strip manufacturer in china with the strength of good quality and pretty competitive price and all kinds of led strip. Can you me your e-mail?I‘d like to do talk with you about the led light strip .
