Sad to hear that Ian Lavender has just died. One of the best British sitcoms of all time.
I loved Clive Dunn's anecdote of John LeMes.
RIP Pike! Thanks for all the laughs ❤❤!
I am 63 now, and Dad’s Army has been in my life all that time, and always will be. When I’m down they take me back to a more simple time. Thank you.
David Handley 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I am 33 now and i have watched almost all the episodes on youTube. Trust me, i am yearning to live those old days.
Jatinder Johnsy I was vaguely aware of it, due to of all things, wargaming (there's a company that made miniature figures of the cast). But knew nothing of the show until I stumbled upon it on Netflix. I was hooked after one episode. Binge watched every season in about two weeks and was say when I finished them.
I’m 62 and you stole my comment.
I’m 14 I’ve watched the show like a Quintilian times
12 years ago we found a holiday let near Thetford. It turned out Dads Army filmed scenes there, the owners were part of the set, helping out. They told us the cast were a lovely down to earth bunch, the series hadn’t hit its mythical status yet, so the holiday home owners never really gave it much thought until years later. We have been there 4 times now, it’s great looking out across the farmlands knowing that we were sharing a piece of TV history, and occasionally we spot the background we recognise.
RIP Ian Lavender, the platoon together again.
Dad's Army is like Laurel & Hardy. People will still be laughing at in 100 years from now.
Who do you think you are kidding?
@@Revelian1982 Huh...
I totally agree 👍
that's right beds139
I was brought up with Dads Army and all these years later its still my goto viewing when I need cheering up
Me too Steve.
Too right shipmates, it's comforting and reminds us that life needn't be complicated! And if it is, we'll have a 😂 laugh.
Timeless characters because they are all believable as part of the milieu of life and their interactions brought the comedy of their situations alive.
I was deeply saddened to hear about Ian lavender passing away , fantastic actor played his character pike brilliantly... That must surely be the whole cast of dad's army now that have sadly left us ...
Yep. All the primary and secondary characters have passed on now.
I’m 62 and Dads Army, It Ain’t Half Hot, Monty Python are the gifts that keep on giving. And you can add Fawlty Towers and Blackadder while we’re at it. The best medicine for sure
And rising damp was excellent

Allo Allo....
Dave Allen?
@@barriereid9244 awesome comedian. Sadly gone.
Some things never get old. Some people are immortal through their works. I'll always remember the cast of Dad's Army very fondly. Don't panic! Don't panic!
I just love Dad's Army. Always funny and never gets old
its was a brilliant series Dads Army. Great cast and sad news about Ian lavender and other members of the cast who died Gob Bless them.
"Put that ruddy light out, you bunch of hooligans"!
love Dads Army one of the best loved watched tv comedies of all time so sad to hear Ian Lavender passed away
It's amazing how much chemistry they still have after so much time away from the show, and it's clear how much of this contributed to the magic we got on screen.
At dinner time, we take a break from this bleak world and watch Dad's Army to laugh the most. God bless their souls for all the laughter they brought to the world.
Wonderful that Bill Pertwee could still do it.... great stuff. And the 'look here madam' just brilliant... 'My watch must have stopped'' legendary lines.
I’m 37 and dads army is great. My mum and dad watch it religiously
Clive Dunn is priceless 🤣
You can see what a great job the makeup designer did on Clive Dunn . They guessed what he would look like as an old man, and here he is looking pretty much just as they made him look back then! This is a strange interview but it's still fun to see them as speaking as themselves.
Many years ago (1978 or '79), as a young gigging musician I played in a small band at David C's beautiful house for (I believe) his daughter's birthday party.
We were given perfect treatment and put up in charming local accommodation. Nice people and happy memories.
I have fond memories of this wonderful series! Still as funny today
Love dad's army, one of my favourites and also judy and her lovely legs😊
It's funny how similar Clive Dunn was to his character Lance Corporal Jones in real life 😂 Everyone who was a part of the show did a fantastic job though, been rewatching them recently and it's still as funny as it ever was.
TromaDogg I think he’s turning it on a bit ;)
I don't know. He sounds the same but he's a lot wittier and sharper in real life.
@@MountRushCollymore sharper than that bayonet of his
Funny how Le Messier aka Wilson, was quite alike his character too bu all accounts.
Clive's in character here.
Clive Dunn surprised me how quick he is. It would have been great to have seen him given more freedom for cutting one liners rather than sticking to the ‚don‘t panic‘ script. Still a great show!
yes he is very funny
Dads Army was a excellent comedy and one of best programmes ever done
I adore dads army and have been watching every night at this time with what is happening in the world it was so sad that Walker died so young you all played your parts so well xxxxxx from N Z
"Don't tell him Pike!" Has to be the most memorable line!
Bob Mirdiff “Stupid Boy...”
Or don't panic
You stupid boy 👦
"Don,t tell him Pike", I us this phrase when passing a Traffic Warden or Litter Patrol officer when they are interrogating somebody .
"You're entering realms of fantasy"
I met the whole cast in Thetford Norfolk when they were filming
What were they like?
@@kylethedalek We used to wait outside the bell hotel in fetford and the anchor hotel infected to see you if we can get autographs, we got all the autographs, but the only one that was very reluctant to sign autographs was Arthur Lowe and when I asked him, he said no, but John lorry. Who's the funeral director of Fraser? Persuaded him to sign My autograph book
Thanks for leaving us with some quality entertainment to enjoy, amongst the 150+ channels of c- - p.
I totally agree today s TV is so PC and geared towards gays
NZ 2001 Ain't that the absolute truth!🙂
Priceless my favorite English comedy ever x
Fantastic times so different than what’s happening now Such nice people Happy relaxed
Only Frank Williams and Ian Lavender survives.
Frank Williams goes to the same Church as me - A lovely man! :-)
True but the surprise was James beck passed first, drink got him, I thought it'd have been Laurie or le mesurier (I think I've spelled that wrong but you know who i mean).
Only Ian now
Ian has now left us also.
As said below, sad that Ian lavender has left us, i have always loved Dads army, it was so stupid but so funny, never a rude word, so a full on Family viewing, and i still LOL today, when its on TV, i have the box set as well, and now and again have a binge watch and a good laugh
Yes l loved these old guys and l am 65 year of age and this was a wonderful show dads army a laugh the way war should have been fought with a laugh nobody getting hurt except for pride really funny show cheers from Australia
At age 87, I can remember the war and the Home Guard - yes Dads' Army is quite close to the reality
Many years ago, I heard an ex- Second World War RAF pilot on TV say that the fughter pilots dreaded the Home Guard. According to him, they always assumed anyone and everyone parachuting out of a dog fight must be a German, and it was their duty to make sure he didn't land alive. This chap said, I hope flippantly, that the Home Guard probably finished off more Battle of Britain pilots than the Germans did.
I loved dad's army then, still love it now brilliant.
It was a great show and it’s amazing to think more years have past since this programme was aired than the 21 years from 69-89! 😮
I love dad's army TV show
What is there to add to all the other comments. It still is one of the best comedy programmes ever made, I'm watching it almost evry night now, either on Dave or the BBC.
Judy Spiers was always my favourite presenter! Very attractive & such a lovely personality, no falseness about her. Didn't see her on TV after Pebble Mill finished, more's the pity. Judy was always very professional, no smutty comments that you see today with Phil, Fern, Holly ( thankfully, not on anymore) etc.
What a lovely clip, thankyou ❤
Absolute legends.
Pebble mill studios Birmingham it's all gone now sadly.
Dad's army and all those old shows like lost in space(even though it's not British), the young ones, Rising Damp, ect were my favourite kind of shows
Ugh, that makes me feel really old. The Young Ones is now closer to the Dad's Army era than to the present day. Where have the years gone?
Fantastic interview, thanks for posting!
❤❤ love dad's army don't make them like this anymore brilliant 👏
Brilliant also to c Clive Dunn wearing his Grandad hat. Grandad was a gr8 show and if I recall rightly🤔, the feller alongside him init was the same actor who played station officer Sidney Tate in London’s Burning.
You're thinking of James Marcus. This is Bill Pertwee. Cousin of Dr Who.
Dad's is part of my life and when my children were small we would put it on because they wouldn't eat their food without it
I grew up in the U.K. Now live in the Mojave. I do believe I have just found my internet home.

(Don’t PANIC!’
Private “Stupid Boy “Pike-Ian lavender. Corporal “don’t panic “Jones-Clive Dunn. Warden “listen here Napoleon” Hodges -Bill pertwee. And the vicar, can’t recall his name 🤔. 4 wonderful characters from one of the BBCs greatest comedy creations 😀👍. Such a shame that the others was not there on that sofa. Private “Can I be excused” Godfrey -The dear Arnold Ridley RIP. Sergeant “If you wouldn’t mind you chaps just falling in please” Wilson - John le Mesurier RIP. Private “ I can get u 3 pairs of them by Tuesday “ Walker -James Beck RIP. Private “Have you heard the story of the old empty barn” Fraser -Joh Laurie RIP. And ofcourse the show would not have been the huge success it was without the little tubby Bank manager of Warmington on sea and Captain of the home guard George Mainwaring the fantastic Arthur Lowe RIP. Lads if your looking down from the comedy heaven in the Skye as I type this, then I’d like to say a huge thanku for the laughs u gave myself and also I say on behalf of everyone else who watched Dads Army thanku. Now, stop talking in the corner and fall in. Come on Jones, keep up, pick up your rifle 🙄. Pike take that scarf of, stupid boy 🙄. Godfrey, why are you wearing slippers on parade 🤔, and no you cannot be excused just now 🙄. Walker, why have you got half a pound of sausages in your top pocket 🤔. Fraser, why have u come on parade in your funeral attire 🤔. 😂😀👍
The actors name who played the vicar was Frank Williams
Reverend Timothy Farthing. Your reverence!
@@annoldham3018 i didnt know that what his name in the show. Either way, dads army was comedy gold with great characters.
CLIVE DUNN, "Jones", best of the best! x-D
The makeup he wore to make him look older back then was astounding!
Top show...top actors! When television was worth watching...Dad's army, Rising damp, Alf garnett, Steptoe, Frank Spencer, On the buses, Benny hill, Fawlty towers etc...Tv gold!!!
Lance Corporal Jones aka Jonesy a National Treasure 😇RIP
Clive Dunn was a genuinely nice man. You're right Jonesy is a national treasure.
Them fuzzy wuzzies had very untidy behinds and Gen Kitchener would not tolerate things dangling you know . .
This is tv gold!
Glad I have the boxset it will bring me years of laughter 😃 Loved watching the tv show classic british tv.
Love them x
EVEN jIMMY PERRY AND DAVID CROFT HAVE GONE NOW. AND R.I.P. PIKEY.
I was hoping we'd hear more of Bill Pertwee's impersonations of the cast, they were absolutely spot on.
A sexy lady and brilliant actors from the best comedy ever! - What a lovely way to spend a few minutes - Thank you all
Were those fellas alright after looking at those legs for half an hour
Does not do me any harm , keep watching !.
JONES (clive dunn) ALWAYS my favorite....... !! xD
Far better days back then and further back.
WOW. Clive Dunn is the same character he portrayed on T.V. That means he just acted himself.
I don't think John Le Mesurier ever acted. He just said the lines. No matter the film or TV show he was the same. Himself.
@mikebritcom3171 John Le Mesurier was actually a very good actor, but he wasn't often required to play anything other than authorty figures whose sole purpose was to support the plot. As most of his film and TV roles were half a day's work here and there, he appeared in the same sort of part in many things, which meant he did seem to always play the same roles.
He sometimes got the chance to shine, as in his brief appearance in 1962's Jigsaw. He played the father of a missing young woman. It's a startling departure from his usual stuff. He had only a handful of lines but made an impact with them.
He also won a BAFTA for his starring role in "Traitor". He was annoyed about it, though, as the plaque on a BAFTA award bears only the recipient's name and the title of the film or show. His read "John Le Mesurier- Traitor".
Loved Dad’s army even as a kid
My favourite even though I was 3 when it came to an end, still watch it all the time, what a shame t.v is absolutely rubbish these days..
Class show Clive dunn genuis
Just heard Ian died on Friday
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤
All the cast now gone
Ian was the only one left
Dad’s Army still as funny as back over 55 years ago
🏴🏴🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
Clive dunn was grandad when I was younger. Loved watching him .
Frank Williams as much as i like him, terrified me as a kid. His face as the vicar the whole getup, and he was in a minor role in the Robbery 1967. He was so convincing in that too. He has the imposing size as well
Why did the verger take the collection home to count it ?
@@judefernandez827 His Reverence will hear about this. Great!
I used to think the vicar, Hodges and Mr Yeatman were the Germans as nobody liked them. 🤣 I was only 5 or 6 mind.😂🥰
what a show fantastic
Brilliant 👏
I cried when I found out Ian Lavender died. They're all gone 😥
Pike and the Vicar are the only ones left in 2021
The only ones left in 2024 are...nobody.
They dont make em like that any more, (actors and the show) pure gold
Pebble Mill, I know it was a bit old hat at times but I'd rather watch Bob Langley than the bunny boilers any day.
Just bought the complete box set in 2020
Ian Lavender is the only member still left now.
Sadly just gone 🙁
The effervescent Judi Spiers💖
A real sweetie!.
I don't care much for Dad's Army, only Judis pins! 🙂
@@sandeepsehmi347I was staring at her legs aswell
😂
That's one hot to trot looking interviewer.
Like has been mentioned in these comments already people will still be laughing at dads army in hundred years, brilliant. Also don't forget the fact that they don't like it up 'em not one bit.
mike ock stupid boy
Clive Dunn sharp as a tack!
Dad's Army is from the golden age of British comedy. Even the Dad's Army film with Toby Jones, Michael Gambon and Cathy Zeta Jones was really good. I can't remember the lady presenter, but oooh, her lovely black nylon covered legs and heels!
What can i say about this lovely Series, Big fan of Dad's Army, Have all on DVD As we know Ian Lavender Passed away resantly couldn't believe it The Youngest of all And the last member of Dad's Army to Die, Yes there were other's in the Team Mrs Pike, Frank William's, John Pertwee, & a few more,
Anyway, Ian Lavender Passed away he was the only survivor of Dad's Army From Myself & Fans all over the Country God Bless them All, ❤
The BBC should never have closed Pebble Mill down or at least they should have had the brains to replace it after the building had structural issues. There is certainly nothing coming out of Salford Media City compared to this !
Walking past it going back to school at lunchtime you never knew quite what would be outside the Mill from Harrier Jump Jets to The Black & White Minstrels strolling along Pebble Mill Rd arm in arm amazing times long gone.
@richardjones5514 That sounds amazing. You must have wonderful memories of that time.
All I ever saw on the way back to school was the stinky fish van on Thursdays!
I've got the BBC radio show set on cassette tape. I still play them in the garden when I'm working.
Still make me laugh.
shame there is only Ian lavender left
Not now, sadly.
@thedarkdefender7780 yes I still can't believe it
The vicar did not say much
I used to love that program when it was on TV and I have all of the DVDs
Legends
OMG JUDY SPIERS I was crazy about her in the 80’s what happened to her? What a shame the only one left is Ian Lavender who was the youngest 😪 every one of the Dads army squad is gone 😕
And Mrs. Fox
But yes, pity nearly every actor from the series is dead,
a bit like are you being served there are still a number of folk kickin' about the edges tho.....
Judi was a presnter on BBC Radio Devon up until fairly recently. Not many of her colleagues were sad to see her go.
Judi Spiers wiki entry says she didn't join Pebble Mill until 1991?
RIP Ian lavender😢
They were originally called Land Defence Volunteers or LDV,, otherwise known as Look,Duck and Vanish
Local Defence Volunteers
@@ivanhajncl8833 Yes, you are right. This was the name in the parliamentary legislation which brought them into being and the name used in the scripts in the early episodes of "Dad's Army". They only existed under that name for a few weeks and it cannot be denied that there were people at that time who did not cotton on to their official name and believed (and probably still do) that the L stood for "Land".
Mmmmmmm Judi Spiers ❤
Got the box set😁
To this day I still hate the ARP Warden (testament to how good he was!)
I always enjoyed his character more after I'd seen an i terview with Bill Pertwee and seen what a happy and funny man he seemed. The best "baddies" usually turn out to be really nice people in real life.
@@Benjiesbeenbetter. Top comment - he comes across in real life, and is spoken about genuinely by his colleagues, as an absolute gent
@@bloodyliar There was an actress of their generation, called Damaris Hayman. She once said that genuinely good people always play the best villains as they don't have a dark side that they are afraid of accidentally revealing.
Love Dads Army but what happened to the two numbers from Lionel Hampton and his Orchestra?
Martin Whatley
That’s a shame
Britbox - Tommy cooper - series one/episode four - Arthur Lowe at the end 👌
likes a drink lol
Judy Spiers the Nylon Goddess ❤
You rang mlord was brilliant too
