From a young age I was fascinated by television, watching lots of it, and later on wanting to learn all about it - its history, how it was made. The first magazine a read regularly was the Radio Times. Of course back in those days there were 3 channels and you watched a programme as it went out - no way to record it. But what if you could?
In the late 70's domestic video recorders started to come onto the market and grow in popularity - here was a way to record and keep favourite bits of TV or whole programmes, but they were very expensive. Our family eventually got a rented one in July 1982, so at last I had the opportunity to build up my own TV archive. But tapes were costly - the first Maxell E120 I bought was £8.99, so what I kept had to be selective.
Over the years costs came down and my income increased - the TV archive grew. What I present on this channel are a few clips and oddities that I kept/survived accidental over-records from the period - early to mid-80's.

When tv, and esp. the bbc was quality. A simpler time, much missed
Sadly, no longer with us. Gone, but never forgotten.
Anthea Turner was a spunk
Please no.
Annoyingly.. although the BBC cult site is archived and still available to browse. Much of the embedded multimedia (interviews, behind the scenes etc) is missing. They were all embedded in the "Real Media" format (no longer in common use and unrenderable in modern browsers). Add to that the servers which hosted the embedded multimedia seem to have been taken out of commission. Shame.
Caroline Dowdeswell who played Miss King at bank in first season, and also a minor Dads Army Michael Knowles who played Captain Cutts are still alive as of January 2025.
And hes born a Indian.
My favorite comedy.
スーパースターの中のスーパースターですね。感動です。
I remember the opening credits but my other memories of it are hazy. In one of them, did someone accidentally break a statue? Didn't someone in an episode humorously sing the music to Jackanory while repeating that show's title as the lyric?
I knew that Michael was gay and had died of aids but I didn't know that he had spent time with Freddie Mercury 1m 19s.
I saw this live. One of the all time greatest performances. No band. I assume no practice. Awesome voice. What a star! What other performer would have the balls to do this?
Hilarious 😂
It was nice of them to be allowed to mention Michael after he was unfairly let go.
BBC were cheeky sods giving Six the reruns after kicking him off the show
😂
Is that Caron Keating she was stunning
What a voice 💓 with no music playing in the background.....his voice is astounding
I remember Sir Cliff singing this when Wimbledon was rained off. A true Master of the voice-look you newbies; no voice control/regs, just Sir Cliff. A true icon. Thanks Sir Cliff
Tragic
I met Honor at the NEC twice lovely lady
I remember watching this as a kid, can't remember the name of the ring tailed Lemur. Any body remember the name it's really bugging me. Just found it "Dotty". Bingo
Could you imagine if this show continued? They'd replace everyone with blacks for no reason other than their networks hatred of indigenous people.
They never needed to cap us, they just needed our politicians to legalise weed and maintain low prices for alcohol. Humans will make themselves unthinking manchildren without much direction at this point in the time line. Although I suspect a lot of it has to do with indigenous Europeans facing existential dread from their invitible genocide and their utter eradication from media; you'd never see three indigenous people like this in a studio anymore, they'd all be occupiers/invaders only. I don't know why Europeans are hellbent on their own extinction, but I am glad that my people in my country choose our own ethnic primacy at all costs. This is why asia will rule the Earth.
That Romana was rubbish 😂
Aw , how lovely . A delightful lady from what seems now a distant age .
Do you have any complete episodes of this?....where did you get this from?...I was 7 years old when this was on TV....I've often thought about it but wasn't sure if it was a figment of my imagination or not!.....great to see this!!...thanks for posting!
Me too
It was this programme that inspired me to walk the Pennine Way. I've remained inspired ever since but still haven't walked it yet.
It's currently being repeated on Talking Pictures Channel 82 on Freeview.
Candles 😱. What a fire hazard. 😂
Tik tok
Biddy is still alive!
Wow, I remember this , and Crazy House ! Funny at the time (and age!)
LOL 😂
Priceless.
Sarah Greene was a gorgeous all English girl ❤
Childhood memories ❤
I loved him. Actually, no past tense - I *love* him. He is eternally a brilliant comedian. R.I.P. 🌹
when people in tv had a sense of humour
No auto-tune necessary. Wonderful!
"Can I lick your cherry?"😄
I was also in the Cubs around this time and I resonate with the cup of tea banter. I remember having to go around houses making tea for neighbours. However. Now I think i'd be offering a coffee to Sarah and Janet.
You won't see anything again like dad's army. They just don't make shows like that. The 60s and 70s were the cream of comedy 😃
.good take off,of Bodie!
Ho ho ho!
Amazing man, devoted believer! He's said, many times, faith in Jesus gives him true peace, purpose, hope of heaven, and shunning of hell. Rare real-life example of discipline, desire, faith in himself, and God's best for all who put God first. ❤🎉🙏✝️
💜 still love this
two lovely guys
Very loved here in Argentina. The best among the best...
The cat bit him
I bet Yvette was very relieved when Biddy left
