Beautiful job! And as far as people saying you are "ruining" things because you paint wood to suit certain interiors or just your personal preference - I don't think you can "ruin" something when you are giving it a new look - or even function - so it will be used for years to come. I think taking something to a landfill or breaking it up for firewood is "ruining" it. If they give you shade just because you aren't doing a finish they would do they are straight up arrogant. I don't always LIKE your "finished look" as it may not be what I would chose, but I totally respect the skill/work/effort/expense/love you put in to every piece and for that reason I LOVE everything you have done. You do all the work therefore you make it look how you want it to look and others can make there own damn pieces to please themselves! Much love and respect XX
people who give shade about the aesthetics of a FREE video project are those who can't think for themselves. I always view FREE information as an inspiration and jumping off place.
Renee Christie... 👏 Clearly there are those who have no respect for the interpreted vision of others. This is Serena's creation. It's her artistic vision. It is an item l would purchase. I have been to countless estate sales. This is an example of the items on display for sell.👍
I couldn’t agree more with your comment. A lot of old furniture ends up in landfills or a basement collecting dust. Why not give it a new look so you or someone else can love it. I don’t have the tools or space to refurbish but I love finding pieces online that people have done, and so quite a few pieces I have at home are old but redone to suit my style and colour scheme
Thanks! That's one thing I love about projects--you never really know what you're going to do until you start. Ideas usually come in the middle and if you've at least started, then you're open to the ideas of trying new things. :) That's where the learning and fun really happens!
HA!! I know, I was thinking that same thing when I was refinishing it! :) Hey--if I ever need a budget coffin, I know that I can always make one look fabulous. HAHA!
Absolutely love this makeover, one of your very best, in my opinion. I would keep that chest for yourself, keep you tools in it or special keepsakes. Its really beautiful.
Thank you! I don't stick to just one color or style, which is probably NOT a good thing to do from a "branding" stand point, but I like too many styles, colors, finishes, to choose just one. Plus, it's fun experimenting! Which means my house is a hodge podge of this and that. LOL
I am a person that loves wood grain and at your beginning I almost choked! I stayed with you, it is beautiful! I'm not especially a fan of such a dark wood but hands down this is lovely! Good job!
Thanks for the way you presented this. I'm glad you took the time to explain what you did with the finish and why. I'm an extremely novice refinisher. I've never heard of liming wax or have I used wood dye but I love the results. I'm one of the purists who love to see the wood grain and hates to see a beautiful natural grain painted over. The dye gives you more color options without hiding the grain.
I will never understand painting haters vitriol spewed at others who choose and execute their own artistic visions. Most of them scream that an antique is being ruined tho it’s noted in so many videos the difference between antiques and simply vintage/old. I simply appreciate all these videos being shared with us as they are so inspiring and gives me great ideas on things to do in my life. I learned a lot on this video and really think the outcome was lovely.
Really beautiful. I was having some doubts for a bit about it being too dark, but your bringing out the grain took it over the top for me and it is so unusual and unlike anything you can buy. Great job, great video and great idea. Thanks!
@@altheamcnabb2829 LOL, I wouldn't be surprised!! I even Googled "coffins" which was creepy, looking to see if mine wood chest looked like any of them! I didn't get far before I had to close the window. ICK!
Thank you, Chloe!! I love using the liming wax and I would love to get my hands on an oak table to try this with! I think I have one in my basement I could refinish in this same manner, but with a natural or light brown (or gray) wood dye! Looking forward to that. Thanks for watching my video!!!
Awesome. No coffin look any more. The large monogram really does it! The nail heads make it look polished with a designer touch. Keep up the inspiring work.
Oh How Stunning the whole thing turned out! I am inlove with the wood stain and the grain is so beautiful with it.I appreciate all the great info and steps you gave us.Makes me want to get out right now and search for our great next find and get to work! Thank You For Your Uplifting Presence and Inspiration🤗
I know, I LOVE wood dyes! I discovered them back when I was working on the vanity I built for my bathroom. They're very rich in color and can be layered to achieve different colors, too. There are alcohol-based ones that I have heard are a little harder to work with. You can see my wood dye video here: ua-cam.com/video/6UmQup_9itk/v-deo.html
That's a really clever, gorgeous combination, with the dark stain and the liming wax. The monogram makes it look less coffin-ish and more like a forbidden chest of mysteries.
Loved the final look! You are a true craftswoman! So many steps involved but it came out so pretty and unique. Thanks for mentioning that rub it hardware finish. I need to do that on my door locks! I'd love to see a follow-up video on where/how you will use that beautiful piece. Thanks for sharing.
I really like how this turned out, but then I just love, love, love everything you do; you’re so creative and inspiring. So glad I just watched this, I have an old TV swivel stand that WAS going to the Goodwill THIS weekend!!!
Interesting. I make similar blanket boxes but hit a wall sometimes with how to finish them off, it was good to see your skills and techniques. More food for thought, thanks for sharing.
Oh how I wish that I could have it I love boxes no matter how they look. Your box is a great project and who would have thought that it would be so beautiful with the finish that you gave it Thank you for your share of your wonderful project Hugs and cuddles from Milton Keynes UK
Add some (faux) strips of leather, and you could make it look like a treasure chest pretty easily. This was a great video; I loved how the lime wax made the grain pop. First time I’ve ever heard of it.
What a great idea, Kathleen! I actually considered adding something like that but didnt consider strips of leather, I was thinking strips of metal, to match the metal monogram letters. But I like the leather idea! ❤
This piece turned out beautifully Serena! It doesn't look like a coffin to me, but more of a sophisticated "Hope Chest". The color is on point and the monogram on the front is the icing on the cake. Well done my friend. :)
I really like how this turned out. I love how that liming brings out the wood grain. I will have to check that out. Don't know how I have crafted this long without knowing that. Thanks for sharing 😁
I can't believe that someone donated that!! 😲. I only find the fake wood stuff which does not float my boat. Great job with that, it looks so much better then what it was! I think if I lived near you, we'd be good friends because you are definitely my kind of people! 🙂 Once again, you've done a great job and gave new life to something that needed it.
Thanks, Tracy!! It IS easy! It just takes a loooonnngggg time and what I've learned is that you can't rush the process. Oh, and you have to have the right tools. OH! And you have to practice each step before doing it on your "real" project so you don't mess up! HAHA
I think it looks more like a tool box. 🙂 I wasn't sure about the color when you first started applying it, but by the time you finished, I was amazed. It's beautiful!
I just found your channel. Your esthetic is not really the same as mine, but that's fine because we all have our own taste. I certainly appreciate your creativity and enthusiasm, and you are certainly a great teacher.
This turned out to be an excellent transformation. To each their own taste, but l think this is so upscale! It looks like an item you would see at an estate sale. I muted the vid. So it was silent as l watched. Had a tiring day taking medical tests. Thank you for contributing to a relaxing evening.😊
Thank you for being a channel that doesn't just put white chalk paint on everything!

Looks more like a blanket box which I believe it is
. Its beautiful
The entire project was so good. The finish is superb. I like it alot. The lettering just took it to the next level.

I don't care if it looks like a coffin, that chest is beautiful! I love the finish, I love the shine, it's absolutely breathtaking. Wonderful job!
and now that it's dark and with the monogram, it looks even more like a coffin....

Coffin project on Halloween. Perfect timing :)
I know, right, Jon!!! I totally DIDN'T plan for that! Must have been serendipitous! LOL
Absolutely gorgeous. Love how it turned out a dark gray instead of black. Nicely done.
Absolutely love this makeover, one of your very best, in my opinion. I would keep that chest for yourself, keep you tools in it or special keepsakes. Its really beautiful.

Me to,Kim. This is so unique and artistic. Love how this project turned out. So many uses.
I LOVE the liming wax! I've never seen that before. Makes me want to get back into up-cycling.
I absolutely love wooden chests.
can’t get over how amazing the wood looks
This is one of my favorite designes you've done beside the coffin effect I love how the wax looked in the grain
Doesn't look like a coffin. Love how the wood grain stands out 😍
Wooooowww!!! The finish is unbelievable!!!! It looks absolutely STUNNING! And the letters on the front was such a cool idea!
very cool! the wood grain is absolutely beautiful!!! the silver touches & nails in the monogram make it look so cool.
Thanks so much, Skylar!
Really beautiful. I was having some doubts for a bit about it being too dark, but your bringing out the grain took it over the top for me and it is so unusual and unlike anything you can buy. Great job, great video and great idea. Thanks!
That hard work paid off. Absolutely beautiful lady!
Maybe a coffin maker did it.

That final color is incredible, I love it!
It looks like a treasure chest. Now I know how I'll finish mine. Blessings to you.
I love how you transform a piece so beautifully!!

Even the interior turned out beautiful. That looked like a lot of work....but what you did was definitely worth it. Awesome trunk.
Love the way the liming wax highlighted the grain! You did a wonderful job and the trunk looks gorgeous!
wow! This finish is so sophisticated. I love it!

I love the raw color after sanding, I’m not sure what you would apply to preserve that but I also love the color you choose as well. Looks beautiful!
Thanks, John!!
This came out so professional it’s beautiful 😍
Nicely done and so unique. Mike loves the way you did the initials. And...not coffin like at all.
Got to admit that I prefer wood items in their natural state, but saying that, you did a good job on this!
Love the dark and light finish
Love that finish, it looks amazing 😍😍
You honestly make some of the best diys ive seen, ever
I love the final look.
Aww, thanks, girl!
I like the way you finish things. In and out. Quality work. 😀

I preferred the light oak, but I must say the finish you did was awesome! It looked brand new and, yes, more masculine. Great job!
Thank you for sharing all these skills, really inspiring. I want to go decorate a chest now!
Well I have to say the dark dye scared me. I didn't like it at first but I really really fell in love the the end product. Beautifully done!!

Serena the results are amazing. Love the transformation. Thxs for sharing.

It's a perfect hope chest, as my grandmother and mother encouraged me to have. You set it at the end of your bed.
Wow the rub & buff is amazing
I think so, too! It's one of my favorite DIY things to use! :)
I really like how this turned out. I love how that liming brings out the wood grain. I will have to check that out. Don't know how I have crafted this long without knowing that. Thanks for sharing 😁

I love you and your sense of humor😊
You did a great job again it’s always a pleasure to watch you’re videos 😀

Thank you, Lydia!! :)
Some really good tips I can use for my new project
I loved seeing the wood dye..such an interesting process☺
Love this piece. It is one of my favorites that you have done.
