Making A Racing Driver's Seat
Вставка

- In this video, filmed before the current lockdown, I'm at Jaguar Racing to help explain the science and process that goes into making a bespoke seat for a top racing driver. Cutting edge technologies & innovative materials go into the very serious task of moulding this crucial part of any racing car.
Thanks to Jaguar Racing, James Calado and Vaughan Cartwright of Real Equipe for making it happen. Enjoy.

This was so cool Marc, is there any way Brackley or Brixworth would let you see their operation? A tour of Mercedes would be amazing from your POV. Please keep up the s tier content
The shown technology has been developed by the Porsche LMP1 team. Good to see that this big step in manufacturing seat inserts is now state of the art. This is a big step in driver safety!
Thanks Marc for producing this! Really enjoyed catching up and showcasing our process and philosophy for producing customised race seats. Nice to see so many positive comments here and that it's had over 13k views - great! Cheers, VC
Thanks Vaughan, it was a brilliant day and I'm really pleased with the outcome. 👍
I just want to say that Marc you are a great man. I know it’s not easy vlogging and editing all these videos. The consistency is unreal. I can’t speak for everybody else, but I wouldn’t mind if you took a break at this difficult time. Thank you so much!
👍
Great insight. Nice Q&As with James & Vaughan
The man is a kiwi! what a legend
All I have to say is wow ,Marc awesome job. Thanks to all the guys involved in making this video happen and letting Marc show us the tech involved.
This is very cool! I make racing seats for drag racing and we still use the two peice foam. Its awesome to see how advanced making seats have become in the highest levels of motorsports!
Cheers Marc! we tune in for your expertise & first hand knowledge of F1 and get treated when your industry access grants us wonderful in-depth content like this- great stuff!!! :)
You have become not only my favourite F1 channel, but also my outright youtube favourite. Stellar video, once again Marc. Thanks for making #stayathome so enjoyable!
Thank you
Thanks as always Marc. Many of us love F1 for the technical aspects too as well as the joy of the racing itself. So please can you do many more videos of the technical, how do they do that, perspective. Helps keep us better educated too. Thx.
Nice work as ever MP, great to watch. Thank you!
Great episode! I really enjoy the more technology oriented content. Thanks!
Very cool. Thanks Marc.
Very cool video Marc, thank you ....
Fantastic video Marc, thank you!
Fantastic video, great insider information, tyvm
Really fascinating video, Marc! Must be one of my favourites, although I enjoy pretty much all of your videos :)
Regarding the seat creation, I hope they are also 3d scanning the drivers, this would probably allow for some interesting insights ... eventually the process might even be shifted to using an AI and a shorter 3d body scan.
Nice to see some of whats going on behind the scenes, small things can make big differences in the overall scheme of things. Any more for anymore..? I hope so. Thanks
This absolutely cool as heck, who knew this much went into making a seat. Now the question is what esle can you get access too show us maybe how the engines are made starting with the poor all the way to completion, now that would be cool .
That was an amazing video !! thank you
More videos like this one please.
Great Video Elvis 👍👍 Is it possible for you to give some insight on the operations inside the MTC?? I would really love to see the technology and machinery involved in there
Very cool Marc👍👍👍
Love the channel
Love the channel, especially the variety. However, audio seems to lag behind in quality. Please please please invest in some proper recording equipment including laval mics. It will be worth it!
Man, i think i told you before, but i realy love your Channel! 🤘
👍Thank you
#AskElvis .That was an awesome video, basically covered all aspects I wanted to know about seats including driver support and basically how the whole seat fitting is done and what they strive to achieve from this. To make sure the shoulders and back is not hurting due to heavy loads and it all has been very very informative. Another video that I learned so much from as like all of your previous video's before hand. I'm glad it is a video that has been previously recorded so you only had to do the editing and hopefully had a more relaxing day. 1 question to do with F1 and if we do get duel race weekends towards the end of the year. I was thinking in the way of fairness for the teams at the back of the grid to help aid with points throughout the small race season if we have 1. Do you think it would be fair to assign proposing that 2 races means 2 qualifying sessions that teams that do not make it out of Q3 for whatever reason get no points in qualifying. All teams that are in Q2 but don't progress get a single point each car / driver. This meaning all teams in Q3 get 2 points for each car / driver. Possibly with the pole sitter getting 3 points which could lead to mistakes etc? As every point counts. Thanks once again Marc and my best wishes are sent to you and your family as I hope everyone is in fine form. Cheers.
Don't usually comment, great video love the content!!
Thanks
Thank you for that very interesting.
Thank you for the useful video..
That was super cool Marc! And here I thought they still poured the hardener in, like they used to do! Do you think any of the teams still do it that way?
Some still make the moulds that way...
I'm pretty sure in the seat fitting video from McLaren a few weeks ago they did that.
Amazing! So you are going to make content with every colleague you worked with in F1? 😋 That would be next level! 🤩 Jokes, but this was really awesome 👊
Another very interesting video Marc .. thank you. A question that did spring to mind is typically how much would each seat cost?
As Bernie used to say, "A gentleman never talks about last night, or money..."
@@F1Elvis haha understood or there is always "if you have to ask you can't afford it"
anothe great insite elvis stay safe and keep us entertained
Loved this, But I love the nerdy stuff.
At 3:38 you've given a great shot of the inside of the car cockpit. Is that foam lining? Is an F1 car similar? are those rocker arms suspension? looks like there's loads of space to weild a spanner, dunno why you were moaning in the last video!!! :)
Haha, yes, there's a memory foam lining for driver leg protection and F1 cars have something similar. As for the space, there's a lot less going on inside the front end of an FE car than and F1 car.
#askelvis Hi Marc, I just saw the kids episode and loved that your answers were so easy to understand for them, I noticed a lot of dutch questions and started wondering, what % of viewers of your youtube channel are dutch?
The Dutch are my 3rd largest audience group after the UK and US!
Amazing Video, after this whole virus stuff should see if you could sneak into McLaren!
what is the brand of the foam used in the video?
#ask elvis when i first went as a marshal for motor sport one thing i was unsure of if a car came off the track on fire could i acctually go out there needless to say did just that without thinking was there any doubts when you started as a motorsport team member
No, I'd dreamt of it for years and couldn't wait. Nervous though on my first day...
Hi Mark I just had a thought do you is it possible that racing point used that white light scanner on the merc to have almost carbon copy of their car?
Not without assistance from Merc themselves....
That intro gave me anxiety as an introvert...
How much does it cost do do this?
Where can u buy your book from??
There's a link in the description 👍
So the million dollar question that I just can't get my head around. How can you create a seat in a factory with the driver just sitting un restrained in the cockpit that is still comfortable when he's strapped in with 6 point harnesses and braking from 300kph down to 80kph for a tight corner?
You're creating a perfect mould of the driver's shape, so strapped in, travelling at speed, or even braking, it's as comfortable and supportive as any of those situations can be.
is thisa old video, otherwise the distance was to close
Yes, old video....
Is the Jaguar Formula E team working out of WAE?
👍
For some reason, I thought the impression taking would be a bit more ‘technical’ than polystyrene beads!
I think the 3D digital scanning, cad modelling an CNC machining kinda make up for it...
True’ 😜

Don’t you wear masks in UK ? How many have you infected today.?
John
🤦♂️Obviously filmed a long time ago...🙄
