  • Hi everyone! Thank you for watching today’s writing vlog where I tried writing like Sarah J Maas! This is part of a series where I try out famous authors’ writing routines! Testing these writing routines has been a super fun process for me while trying to write a novel. It’s kept the process really fresh and exciting. I was particularly excited to try out this routine because of all the fun quirks Sarah J. Maas incorporates into her daily writing ritual. Emulating her writing routine was a really fun process.
Don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE for more writing vlogs, challenges, and tips to keep you inspired on your journey to becoming an author! If you have another famous writing routine you’d like me to try, leave it in the comments and give this video a thumbs up so I know you liked it!
As always I appreciate you and thank you for watching!
    Q/A & Discussion:
    What is your writing routine?
Are you an ALL day writer, morning writer, night writer, or weekend writer?
Would you try this routine? Why?

Hello, just found your channel five minutes ago and immediately subscribed! My best day was about 7'000 words, and I'm not sure how I got the words to flow so well! I used to be a morning writer, waking up at 6:00 AM was usually my routine. Now I write throughout the day when I feel like it, but I'll probably get back into routine when I get home for vacation! 😁

Aww thanks so much! I appreciate it so much! 7k?! That's so awesome 👏 I'd be a morning writer too if I had a job but at the moment I'm just kinda waking up whenever haha

I hand write all of my first drafts! (Currently doing weekly vlogs until I’m done.) I resisted it for a long time because it felt like I would be going backwards (because I outline on a computer), but I found that to not be the case at all. It helps me to get a feel of how the story should progress. It might change as I transcribe it, but it’s still the best tool I’ve found to getting the story down “right” and as fast as possible.

Yes this exactly! I used to write by hand all the time and just recently started up again it helps so much!

I think 9700 is my best ever day. I also don't believe she's spending every day writing for 12 hours, maybe close to deadlines? (Also, it's the internet so I always question people's stories, esp famous people.) If you feel odd doing the faces, maybe ask someone else (partner or friend?) to make the faces - it might be useful to see how other people interpret differently what you're writing.

Haha yeah I know I searched for a few hours and couldn’t find anything specifically stating her average writing time or stop time except that tiny bit in the article so I just went with it. Some of these authors are really vague about the details around their routines (or maybe they don’t keep track) and it’s so hard to find all the details. But I did my best 😅
The faces is something I do already at my desk but not so much in the mirror and DEFINITELY NOT while recording myself 😂 that’s why I felt so awkward about it. I’m still getting used to talking to the camera. You should see how much crap I cut out because I’m stuttering over my words and sound nonsensical. Maybe I’ll do a blooper reel sometime 😆.

@@charleeraewrites Oh, I wasn't trying to imply you didn't do your best. So funny that they hide it because, yes, the secrets of their routines which, if replicated, might mean we end replacing them as international bestsellers! 🤣🙄 Oooh, blooper reel would be amusing! Do it!

No I know! I just meant that I looked but despite my best efforts I couldn’t find anything else😅 not that you thought I didn’t do a good job 😂 promise!
I’ll start keeping some bloopers behind and create one for the video I make when I get to 1000 subs then lol 😂

Mannnn what an intense writing system!! She probably does intense writing or no writing. like one or the other I would guess. She might also honestly have ADHD or someting? that allows her to hyperfocus?
