That's a great question: me I never refrigerate alcohol (with an exception of beer) but I always have ice on hand because I understand people put it in the fridge to have a cold drink.

Yeah and ice is important for mixed drinks anyway

Good explanation. The only time I have ever put liquor into a refrigerator was Iwhen I was younger and having party. These days I don't refrigerate any liquor

As a note, I had a bottle of Stirrings Blood Orange bitters that I got about 1 year ago, maybe 14 months, I only used it a couple of times but refrigerated immediately after opening it per Stirrings suggestion on the bottle, and pulled it out a few weeks ago to help flavor an Old Fashioned mix I made here at home. Without looking, I dumped some in and when the sun hit the bottle just right (after pouring) I saw something in there, so the whole floating fruit thing is absolutely real. What I saw floating looked similar to "the mother" that you add to brew Kombucha to get it to ferment, similar to sourdough starter. I had to throw that batch of mix out but learned a lesson, everything has a lifespan, check the ingredients before you free-pour them into something you're making. I love the channel, and I always learn something from you and get to laugh along the way. Guess it's the New England sarcasm we share (I'm in Maine so I get it!) Cheers!!

The problem is many of us grew up with, or have been trained on, the idea that everything we have lasts forever. This is due to the high usage of preservatives since probably the 50's or so (no doubt more so since the 80s). But, when you use real product, natural product, and fresh product, the lifespan is far far less.
I have had this same situation happen when we made homemade bread, or you buy bread at the bakery. 3 days later it's harder as the gluten starts to solidify, by the end of the week if it's not a rock, it's probably moldy.
Back in the day folks purchased what they needed _that day_ and used it, then re-used whatever they didn't se the next day. By the third day it was part of a stew or something to help get rid of it.

How about RumChata? I was told even kept cold should be used or disposed of in 6 months.

Again, they say that because they want a crisp cream drinking experience. Company’s don’t want any change in total flavor over time. I’ve never refrigerated my rumchata and had it for several years, I’m still alive

@@cmcocktails thank you. We were afraid the “cream” part of it would go bad.

Yes, people usually do this because they don’t really like the flavor of jager
