Special thanks to a notable and internationally respected Nigerian Miss Chimamanda Nzozi Adichie for her campaign and great moral speeches to the good German chancellor Angela Merkel the pillar of the EU and the good German peoples who had second thoughts about these colonial heritages and decided to do the right thing by agreeing to return them to Nigeria. Unlike the colonial arrogance and hypocrisy of the English people and the British government who continue to ignore Bini city and Nigeria after 100 years continual calls for the return of our artefacts and the lost souls of our ancestors. The British government is so deluded that they think that Nigeria or the Royal family of Bini city will forget or give up on the soul of our peoples because of the way that they frustrate us. We will never rest or stop asking for their returns until they are all back home even the ones in private collection. And we would no longer pay for them or even consider the monumental insult and the humiliation of having them returned to us as loaned items. Even if it takes the next one thousand years they will all return home to Bini. The whole world can visit the royal museum inside the palace of the Oba of Bini to view them. The Oba is the only man who can be the owner and custodian of the Bini bronzes and other related artefacts on behalf of the Bini people and their descendants scattered across West Africa and the diaspora.
Not just only returning the artifacts but also restore Benin sovereignty back, Benin people are suffering across the globe, all thanks to British invasion.
I am author of the books: The Great Wall of Africa: The Empire of Benin’s 10,000 Mile Long Wall, The Real Wakandas of Africa and The Real Vibranium of Africa (by Maurice Miles Martinez). In the Great Wall of Africa, I discuss the Benin Bronzes and current issues around returning them from Museums. Most people are unaware that African people built a wall before transatlantic slavery in the Benin empire that is one of the most massive structures in the world. At 10,000 miles long, the Great Wall of Africa contains more material than all of the buildings in New York City’s Manhattan. If cut into 1 meter high blocks, it would wrap around the equator more than 65 times! It is arguably the planet’s greatest man-made structure. Yet, it has been ignored by historians. In my book The Great Wall of Africa: The Empire of Benin’s 10,000 Mile Long Wall, I explore the dimensions of the wall, the history of the Benin Empire’s Kings (Obas) and the stolen Benin Bronzes. These treasures that sit in the world’s museums amount to more than $14 Billion. Most people who read this book are left wondering why they never heard about the Great Wall of Africa in their history classes. The world needs more videos on this topic that explain that the stolen Benin bronzes need to be fully returned (not just a few of them). Maurice Miles Martinez
