- A massive makeover will take place behind the scenes of Friday's inauguration. Around 100 staffers will redecorate the home for the Trumps in a matter of hours. Preparations are already underway. Chip Reid reports.

It would be better if he did. I hate to think of him using the desk Kennedy and Obama used. It has a real statesman's history.
Actually they could replace the desk if the President requests. They have multiple desks from previous administrations that presidents could choose from but most presidents will use the Resolute desk currently in the oval office anyways.
A president can use any desk he so chooses. The most recent not to use the Resolute Desk, Bush 41, used the C&O desk. Before the Presidency of Jimmy Carter, the Resolute Desk wasn't used in the Oval Office at all, only being in the location during the presidency of John F Kennedy. In total, 6 desks have been used in the Oval Office by the 45 Presidents to date.

I hope that President Trump will not treat the historic and beautiful Resolute Desk so disrespectfully, as some of his predecessors did.
