Bob seems like a real one bro. Doesn't take too much credit just goes "oh I brought up the idea." The best song, IMO, I have ever written came from an idea a friend gave me. He wrote nothing, but without him who knows if the song would have ever came into my head. Pretty dope.
Im just going to say this, I grew up in Watts, CA and i was the only person out of my friend group that went to college (Berkeley). Ive helped all of them because i promised i would no matter what it took. Ive gotten paid back every dollar. Theres a scene in 8Mile where Cheddar Bob ask B Rabbit if he's worried about what Papa Doc is gonna say. Giving B Rabbit the idea to air out all his problems in the last battle so Papa Doc has nothing to say. The stuff he's saying about having creative input early in Em's music actually makes a lot of sense I can see how the Cheddar Bob character would be based on him.

Biterphobia is some of the illest shit Eminem ever wrote. It's the very essence of what is pure, unadulterated hip-hop. I never got into Eminem when he blew up and the whole world was hard on his nuts. Biterphobia and his underground made me respect him as a MC/lyricist.

He's not lying I was there... Me and Em was talking and Kim and him got in a big argument in the middle of the whole release party. I was flabbergasted lol they literally had to be pulled apart Em just shrugged it off and kept talking to me... Those was the best times for Hip Hop in Detroit. These are the times me and Eminem was homies
Bottom line is eminem was an underground backpack battle rapper. He signed with Dre and had to switch up and become more commercially viable. He compromised his integrity by switching up his true identity in order to reach a wider audience. Some say that's smart business but in HipHop that's the definition of a sell out. He had to become a bit more "gangsta" even though that's not at all who he was or is, and in order to do so he had to leave his underground homies behind, especially the white ones if we're being real, and that's why Cheddar Bob got left. I know stans will justify it, but I watched it all unfold from the time infinite dropped up to the current times. Doesn't take away from his skill as a rapper, but he is not immune to the rules of the industry. To make it to the level of superstardom he has you simply have to abide by the rules of the industry masters. Stans want so badly for em to be the exception to that rule but he simply is not. And I'm sure he's done much more shady work than that. He called himself shady but of course stans will say that's not real but then turn and say all his other lyrics are real and he's the realest ever 🤣 Like I said I grew up in the 80s and 90s and was trully in the culture and heavy into the underground and everyone saw him change up (sell out) and we all knew it. But of course winners of wars write history so the picture painted of him now is far different from what it was and what it truly should be.

Cheddar Bob went through with Eminem what we all go through with some of our closest friends. Sometimes they go off and do their own thing and all you can do is support them from a distance. However, being that it seems like Cheddar Bob was a big part of Eminem's come up. I'm shocked Eminem hasn't helped him out really at all. I get that we all got friends however most of our friends never play a roll in our success as young adults unless they're like our best friends and in this particular situation. Cheddar Bob sounds like he was one of Em's best friends. I would actually pay money to see Eminem and Cheddar Bob do a sit down and talk about the past for an hour or two.
That would be an amazing g convo! Unfortunately it won’t happen 🤦🏻♂️ It’s crazy cus in the movie they made Chedda seem like a goofy dude that they didn’t take serious, with no talent but wanted to be rapper. They did him dirty in 8 Mile
Sometimes when people blow up they just don’t see the value in helping certain people that they knew along on the way. It’s kind of sad but at the same time if their relationship was that locked in he definitely would’ve helped. It probably was one of those friendships where they only became friends for a brief period of time so Eminem didn’t form that strong bond with him like that is what I’m guessing.
There's a difference about liking hip hop loving it and living it. Then there's the appropriators looking for sales fortune fame and have done absolutely shit for the genre but live off of it rather than feed more into it. I don't think em tried to make cheddar bob to be a idiot probably it was all loosely each character actually having elements of certain several people no doubt the majority was this guy but trying to tell a huge deep story in hr and 45 min. Your not going be able to get every body's full story in. Plus it's a movie certain characters need to fill specific roles in the interest of the story arch. Lastly cheddar bob wasn'tlike the coolest dude he was a little sloppy and the character may of even came off a little slow. That said I felt he was of rabbits real friends like I pictured him being the guy that when em was just chilling which would be the majority of the time that Bob would of been the guy you'd see him walking to the store with the guy that would probably know em in a way proof even wouldn't. Also yes he shot himself and was a bit of a goof but he was still right there he wasn't ducking anything and still showed up for his boy on crutches and was the muse that gave me the inspiration that won him the battle. This makes bob the real hero of the movie. Cheddar bob is dismissed by most people but if you think about it bob was the most layered character and besides em he was the pillar character of the story you take bob out and em probably loses the battle and ends up working in that factory for 30 years. Sounds to me like cheddar bobs character did a service to rec if you really look at it him made rec the hero. Judging from the interview in most ways I think bob turned out as I would of imagined his character turning out and bob was a good guy that adds up and bob was ems inspiration in key moments at that moment in time just before he blew up probably low key having one of the biggest hands in em going in to become a star. If you ask me cheddar bob showed all the important aspects of rec and gave him his props
@JimBowSlice nah it was Rec fasho ... I won the battles that night and Bob set up a date to record on Duchess and we did some tracks..still have the graffiti style wrapping he put the cassette in lol

Being a punk and metal fan on top of being a hip hop fan-you can talk for hours w Bob on any kind of music. Dude for sure is a real one and glad to see him get exposure. RIP Mike P
Was thinking that, maybe he said he was just chill n quiet etc n they stretched it into another character for the movie and em just went with it. Least show him flipping discs n scratching it up!! It a real shame, him shooting himself was the crapest part of that movie and was a lil bit cringe even if it did happened. Now its a term for dummys with guns shooting themselves, not sure a good or bad thing but Detroit know this man and it feels sad to do him like that. Em step up even in the movie they looked like best friends.
I'm honestly curious how much creative control Em had over the film. Characters are often combined or erased to make a smoother storyline. Yeah, it's _based_ on his life experiences, but it's still *fiction.* Yet it's not quite fiction enough: everyone comes away feeling like it "says a lot" about reality, believing the changes were only to avoid a lawsuit. 😕
Em has made it clear he did not enjoy 8 mile, either making it or the movie itself. It's the whole reason he hasn't really acted since besides lime the interview where he has like a 2 minute joke scene
I believe it was 2005 - 2006 my bro who drove an 18 wheeler . The company he drove for was right off of 75 & 8 mile . He was stop by the police and when they ran his license , he found out he had a warrant . He goes to jail & truck towed . His wife called & said he wanted me to ride up there with her to pay his bond . We live just north of Cincinnati Ohio . By the time we got up there , his boss got him out & he was waiting on us at a bar on 8 mile . Wasn't far off the interstate & right turn on 8 mile . Don't remember the name of the bar ( biker bar) but one of EM'S friends was shot & killed that night on or just off of 8 mile . Some chick was telling us about it at the bar . She said we shouldn't leave anytime soon , because cop's were everywhere...that place was a shit hole ...

I remembered Rec for whatever reason thinking of dj sets to listen to and up comes the interview. My roommate met Rec at a party and he was free and said he'd come and dj. The Quincy House by UofD had a history of house parties so maybe he knew of it. Sure enough he pulls up front and starts unloading some gear and records. This guy could mix anything. It was more a techno scene. I was bummed that some of my records were gone. Rec came and played another party some time later and first thing he walked in and hands me the records and said thanks for letting him borrow them. He just wanted to sample stuff off them. This would have been 96 or 97. There was an underground di scene in Detroit that was the real shit. A lot of fun but also a lot of competition. You did see dj's thrown off the decks or people out of a party. It was some hard core shit. That small-scale culture was pretty much torched after the first DEMF. After people saw that Detroit could be capitalized. That was when the big names from Europe like DJ Shadow and Carl Cox were brought in. Great interview, so many unknowns coming to light
I grew up in the same exact area in Detroit, in between 7 and 8 mile by Gratiot. I lived on Bringard which is about 5 or 6 streets away from Novara. Novara is closer to 7 mile and Bringard is closer to 8 mile. I wonder which side of Gratiot he lived on, in between Gratiot and Kelly, or in between Gratiot and Schoenherr. I lived in between Gratiot and Kelly, just down the street from Eastland Mall which Em referenced in the Slim Shady EP. Em's talked about Novara in a few songs too. I have childhood friends from Novara. The club Proof was shot at was at the corner of my block and 4 streets up from me; I remember waking up the day it happened.

*Exactly.* It sounds like Rec stopped trying to hang when he didn't feel welcome. Plus he had his own DJ stuff going on. Not exactly "chasing clout," but that's all these idol worshippers can think of when the past says "Remember me?" It's not like he was begging to be interviewed…

What up, REC! This is "Verbal the Battlecat" ... Hopefully we can talk with you soon; I still have cassettes of our work and semi-fondly remember the scene back in the late 90s, early 2000s! Salute! You're one of the most talented producers I've witnessed work!
Bob is legit as it gets, a true Detroit icon and should be recognized as such. I hope he finally gets his due, a real down to earth homie!
Anyone else seen the other guy claiming to be cheddar
Theres a scene in 8Mile where Cheddar Bob ask B Rabbit if he's worried about what Papa Doc is gonna say. Giving B Rabbit the idea to air out all his problems in the last battle so Papa Doc has nothing to say. The stuff he's saying about having creative input early in Em's music actually makes a lot of sense I can see how the Cheddar Bob character would be based on him.
He seems bent out of shape about it when he should think it's cool because he does give Cheddar Bob a lot of credit in the movie.
@@Bonesphchedder bob looks like he has special needs in movie so its disrespectful if this is truly who cheddar bob was based off of. I know id be furious if it was me
Whats funny is in real life rap battle, him airing his stuff out would give an opponent something credible to talk about. that would basically be a gift from the heavens, the crowd would eat it up. Not even a funny twist would be required, you could just say this battles easier than your former side peice" etc

NEVER heard Eminem's song 'Biterphobia' in my life. And I thought I heard it all. Salute to DJ Rec for mentioning this! 🏆
Biterphobia is some of the illest shit Eminem ever wrote. It's the very essence of what is pure, unadulterated hip-hop. I never got into Eminem when he blew up and the whole world was hard on his nuts. Biterphobia and his underground made me respect him as a MC/lyricist.

Yup. Also, just wanna say 1990s underground shit was absolutely out of this world. KOTTONMOUTH KINGSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

How em portrayed him says a lot how em viewed him even though bob didn’t view himself as being the way he was portrayed in the movie
Yeah, it's _based_ on his life experiences, but it's still *fiction.*
Yet it's not quite fiction enough: everyone comes away feeling like it "says a lot" about reality, believing the changes were only to avoid a lawsuit. 😕
Em has made it clear he did not enjoy 8 mile, either making it or the movie itself. It's the whole reason he hasn't really acted since besides lime the interview where he has like a 2 minute joke scene

I've known this guy since 2011.
Great interview. Easy to listen to.
this guy sounds legit im not going to lie
What you see is what you get. He is 100% legit.
@@906AKORN Very legit. He posts a lot of the original recordings on his FB every now and then, too
Instant sub. bro found the real cheddar bob. I thought he was a fictional character
Shout out to Bob!! OG 4 life!
Great stories!!🔥
It’s nice hearing the real!!!
very cool dude. Really enjoyed this.
Novora house could be a documentary or a show. Bunch of stories

he was one of Ems boys....seen him on an emineme documentsry dvd...but he just talked about being buddies w him...nothin much else
How they gonna talk about late 80s Detroit hip hop and not bring up Esham ?
Facts!
Throw bob a million Eminem button
This dude don't deserve s*** he's a liar I'll put a million on it right now 😂😂 it's so obvious this guy's BS he thinks he's chata bob😂😂😂😂 because his name's Bob and he knew m&m at one point. These guys were not close friends. Been a fan of Eminem's for over 25 years it's so easy to spot BS in this interview watch it again
@@coryc9721I just started the interview I wonder if Eminem has thrown him any money or anything
@@coryc9721so you know who Eminem friends were before he blew up?
Am I crazy or does big L sound exactly like the guy hush from the cam capone podcast? And ironically enough they both talked about Eminem 😂😂😂
All respect but you should have networked more man when EM was successful during your time in the rooms. But still you were part of greatness. Kid L should interview Wendy Day she created The Rap Olympics to gain Eminem traction. She discovered Em. DJ Rec should hit up Gongu Roach to see if he could get more publishing
I love it. Thank you ❤
Interview ICP
I wanna see Esham talked about. Esham is one of Detroit’s hardest rappers who shows icp love since the 90’s. I never been a huge feminem fan.
@@MrPHUCKYOURSELF there is actually a kid L interview with Esham.
I get it, but 8mile is just a movie, the main character isn't even called Marshall lol, it is a fictional movie loosely based on Ems come up in detroit but was never a Biography. So you can't blame the innaccuracies on Em he just made a movie that someone wrote for him to star in loosely based on a fraction of his come up! Respect
My dude Rec. Good Interview L
This man is a legend from my childhood 🙌🏾
🔥💯
Shout out to Car City Classics, Recrd Time, Hot Hits & Melodies and memories, who are STILL at 9 & Gratiot! Call it whatcha want, but its Still East Detroit to me!!!
It's still free health care
Whats the beat playing during your video
I made it lol
Why wouldnt em ever come back and do something for him, if they where roommates during that time.
Why is this a question? Y’all swear money make everybody a real Nigga 😂😂
Ego based reasons ìd assume
They were just roomates
He was there for a season not for a reason. 🤷🏽
@@Charles13X how is it vague? theres a difference between taking care of your buddy that youve been friends with since 1st grade, compared to someone you worked with for a year. just because someone is IN your life in moment, doesnt mean they are a PART of your life
