The same argument was made about Jeep back in the day. Jeep made them for the military and then for the civilian market. There were differences between the two, but at the end of the day, both were Jeeps. If people will actually think for a second they would realize it’s kinda scary. Weapon manufacturers all build the same weapon as cheaply as they can to win the bid and still make money for themselves! But people think that because it was made for the military, they’ve really got something. Colt came up with a marketing ploy several years back when they started selling them on the civilian market. Both military and civilian models have the same upper receivers. Barrel lengths are different between the civilian and military M-4’s, but both still sport a bayonet lug. The lower receivers are stamped M-4 with Colt’s logo and are the same except for the trigger group. Like Jeep, at the end of the day, whichever one you buy, you will get a semi-automatic rifle that is chambered in .556

the M4 only coming in 5.56 isn't really a con when you realize that 5.56 is one of the most common calibers on the market, like you might as well say it grow on trees.
It's not even true. Of course .223 is compatible anyway, but you can also get an M4 in other calibers like 300 Blackout.
If the m4 is a caliber 5.56 you can use 223 also, but if rifle is a 226 you can't use a 556
The correct way to phrase that is the M4 only came in 5.56 in the government rifles if you use a standard AR lower which is semi automatic only and added an inch and a half to the barrel to make it 16 inches where it is civilian legal there’s multiple calibers in the civilian market 5.56 is the most common but you can also get one in 300 blackout, 350 legend, 6.8 SPC, 6.5 Grandel, 450 bushmaster, 458 SOCOM, and 50 Beowulf just the name a few

These are all AR15’s. The M is just a military designation.
The M4 is Not an upgrade from the M16. The M16 was longer but was originally used in jungle warfare. After the start of the Gulf war the military realized that the M16 was no longer ideal because the majority of battle was Urban Warfare. Having a longer barrel made combat more difficult going house to house. The Other major change was changing from Full auto to Burst which would only fire 3 rounds at a time. Most M4s were converted to burst. The solid stock being changed to a collapsible stock Was an upgrade. M4s are Rarely maintained properly and often have issues once deployed. The only Major difference between an M4 and an AR15 is that AR15s are Only semiautomatic and don’t have full auto or burst. M4s are Supposed to be made to a higher quality, but in my 20+ years of service, they are not. Also, Colt is not the only manufacturer of M4s.
When I went through Air Force basic training (1978) . We were told that we would properly never be told to use the M16 on auto, because it was just a waste of rounds. If your enemy isn't standing shoulder to shoulder pretty much most of the rounds will not hit the target.
suppression is not a waste of ammo. if you pay attention, the government does all the things it tells us not to do: full auto spray and pray, shoot through drywall etc, using SBR instead of "16 or whatever.

That was the terminology then and it was on the switch on the gun it's self ( Auto & Semi ).
At one time in history they were called machine guns.
The first ones that were made was called " Gatlin Gun ". Because of the name of the inventor.
I went through the US Marine Corps Infantry Training School at San Onfrey, Camp Pendleton in 1973. For training, we used both M16A1 and AR-15s. Then I got to my first duty station and was issued an M14 for my first two years of active duty.
In Fallujah the Marines were using M16A2 with 20-inch barrels 1/12 twist rate. M193 ammo along with various heavier weapons as needed.
Only if you were assigned as point man and assist, team leader could attach the m203 with an M4 while the odd man out carried that godforsakened M249 SAW(me🤣🤣😂😂)
Umm, no. The M16A2 was never issued with a 1/12 twist barrel. The rear sights are also calibrated for the drop of the 62gr M855. M193 is not nato compliant nor does the army purchase it.

The M4 is an AR15. Just like a MK18 is an AR15. For those watching, I’d strongly suggest taking what this guy is saying with a grain of salt. He says that the AR15 can be bought in 300 winchester magnum which just isn’t true.
Nemo Arms chambered in 300 win mag. It’s not the 15 but it’s basically a propriety AR10.
You've just got to understand these Fudds don't understand the 2A, so they feel the need to pretend AR15s are "less than" "military grade." I say grow a pair and tell the gun grabbers the whole point of the 2A is military arms. Like, you know, the musket was.

I have multiple ar’s in my arsenal. And they are all better then the military version of an m4. It is not illegal to own a barrel that is below 16 inches you just can’t use it with a stock unless you pay tax on it. Also you can own an automatic version again you must pay the tax on it. The marines in Fallujah were clearing buildings with 20 inch rifles.

I own a Colt M-4. It pisses me off that every time I pull the trigger, only a single shot fires. Now this video taught me that I'm not allowed to have an M-4, but I'm not turning myself in. The image at 3:08 actually demonstrates one other strong difference between the AR-15 and M-4s. Both can hold a 30 round magazine, however the one for the M-4 (mine) is slightly elastic and can actually hold 31 rounds. The gun senses the 31st round and sends that cartridge down the barrel also. It is very noticeable. While the bullet travels about 3200 FPS, that last cartridge is subsonic and alerts me that it is time to change the magazine. It was designed this way to fool the enemy. They count 30 rounds and then stand up. Then our boys can nail them with #31.
i just thought that any 30 round magazine-capable gun could hold 31 if you put one in the chamber and fill the mag with one more to replace the one in the chamber

My biggest complaint when they changed from the M-16 A1 to the A2 had nothing to do with full auto versus three round burst. It was the fact they change the stock length and added that stupid finger groove on the grip the A1 stock fit me perfectly but the A2 stock was 5/8 of an inch longer which does not sound like much but when you have short arms like me it made maintaining a steady position much more difficult which negatively affected my qualification scores…… when they came out with the M4 with the adjustable stock and I could shorten the stock one click and my qualification scores went back up to where they were with the A1

You almost never come across M4s in gun stores. It’s illegal to sell select fire weapons in the USA without a tax stamp, Registration, etc.,
Correction, it is illegal to sell or own "machine guns" (which is burst and full auto fire) post 86 without a FFL/SOT, but you can get a binary trigger which is select fire, but is still semi auto.
Try Cabela's. They sell M4s.
Before colt m4 is widely available in my country with select fire of semi and full, but since marawi seige, high caliber rifles are strictly non available for civilian use.
PCC's and Mag fed shotgun are now popular.
They're now going to be available for civilian use this year.

Why? In a SHTF situation it would be too much to carry on top of food, water, ammo & other necessities. Better off with a 1 solid rifle & a reliable pistol as a secondary & spend on ammo.

I have a Colt M4 16" barrel LE model. Great gun.
The importance you probably missing the m4 is a battle rifle it has a thicker barrel that won't melt a warp and is way more durable. No matter the fire selection.

I'm happy with my AR556 ( AR-15) & very fortunate that the Pennsylvania line is not that far from where I live as I go to a favorite gun store in Gettysburg to purchase all of my 30 round Magazine's since I live in one of those , as I call a EAST BERLIN STATE where they have the 10 round Magazine restriction,, not ! That's the new M-4.375. It fires both the projectile and the casing separately. The thought is if you miss and the projectile goes over the enemy's head, there is still the chance of flinging a hot brass shell down the back of their shirt.

An FFL is a Federal Firearms License holder, to own a National Firearms Act (NFA) item like a short barreled rifle you need an NFA tax stamp. There is no such thing as an FFL stamp. You can have FFL's that are also Special Occupational Tax (SOT) payers who are then licensed to deal in NFA weapons without having to pay the NFA tax on transfers of the weapons. Also you can have a rifle with a 14.5 inch barrel without paying for the tax stamp, as long as you have some kind of muzzle devise (ie. flash hider, or muzzle brake) at lease 1.5 inches long, that has been permanently attached to the end of the barrel by pin and wield or silver solder. Also civilians can own machine guns with a tax stamp so long as that machine gun was placed on the NFA register with ATF before May of 1986, commonly referred to as a transferable machine gun.

If you buy a fixed stock AR, it's because you were looking for one. It's way more common for citizens ARs to come with adjustable stocks. This video is crazy inaccurate.

I didn't know one could purchase a full on m4. I'm not someone who is hung up on full auto though. To me, full is an emergency setting that I hope I'd never gave to switch to. Full auto is full retreat mode to me anyway. Semi auto, all day long.

It isn't. Just because a manufacturer puts M4 in the name doesn't make it an M4. Unless you're an 05 FFL and an 07 SOT and have form from a government agency requesting said rifle, you cannot buy one as a civilian

idk about yall but pistols in my state are WAY more expensive than AR.
They are are all M-16's to me. Some are short, some are long, some are fat, some are lightweight, some go full auto, some burst, some have lasers and lights or even bayonets. I've seen pink ones. It shoots 5.56 NATO rounds with the AR system. The AR system can shoot about anything with the proper barrel, bolt and magazine. , .22, 9mm, 10mm, 5.56 Nato, .308, Creedmoor, Blackout, Grendel, etc.. but if I say semi auto M-16, you know what I mean. If you say AR-15 rifle, I have no idea what it is. So, if you get the license to go full auto, is it still an AR-15? Then there's the AR-15 carbine and pistol..wth? "AR-15" is a non-descript gun term. M-16 just sounds better and we can define the caliber with that name. Basically, any rifle using the AR platform that is NOT in 5.56 could be called an AR-**. But that rifle was a M-16 when the world saw it for the first time. If it quacks like a duck...
When the world first saw it was a AR-15 Made by Armalite in 1957. M-16 is it's US military designation that it got in 1963 some 6 years after it first came out. It was available to civilians first and was a Commercial off the shelf rifle. The USAF accepted it as is. The US Army demanded improvements and adopted it as the M-16A1 in 1967. Those are the facts.

Who cares? To get the best results out of 5.56, you need a 20" barrel. Any shorter and you are sacrificing down range ballistics.

The 14.5" barrel is available to the civilian market too. So that is incorrect. You just have to weld and pin the flash hider so it can't be removed. Anything under 16" does not require an FFL stamp, there is no such thing. A rifle under 16" requires an NFA tax stamp. If it is built as AR pistol there is no stamp requirement because it is not a rifle. And no, most AR15's don't ship with a fixed stock. That is only a crazy requirement in states like california. Your pros and cons are hilarious.
lol you forgot a major con of the m4 that even the military observed… fully auto capabilities are nearly worthless and just burn through ammo. It has literally no logistical use.

Cool video but his facts are definitely wrong about the 14.5 barrel not being allowed on the civilian market. I have a 14.5 barrel on 3 of mine and 2 are M4s that are semi auto and the other is an AR15. This person clearly needs to do some better research next time but besides that it’s a a decent video.

BRO!!! At 3:08 they have a pic of a soldier shooting a carbine......, but there is a empty 5.56 cartridge that looks like it is coming out of the barrel. Even if that pic was taken at the exact moment that the cartridge was extracted from that "over gassed carbine", and went forward, making it look like it was coming out of the barrel....it can give certain people the wrong idea.
The information in this video is not very accurate. I have a 5.56 NATO 16 inch M4. She shoots .223 also. So this video is not quite accurate. You can 100% own one as a civilian. They are extremely fun to shoot.
there are AR's on the market with short barrels, some of them even with 10 inches barrels so your argument about barrel lenghts it's pointless
