Here's another scam I heard about: NEVER answer your phone with a "yes". Apparently, it can get recorded and then your voice can be used to reply yes, and somehow it can result in a scam.

I'd like your team do the job on scammer boss too. Some of them are big chinese mafia operating along Myanmar-Thailand, Cambodia-Thailand boder, luring local people to work in their companies. The work includes scamming, prostitute, gambling, human trafficking, rare species trafficking, etc.

What drives me crazy is that they have call centers, offices and cubes just like legitimate businesses and Indian government is fine with it.
it should be clear then government supports them fully and also provides them protection. Poor india using such tactics to grow its economy.

Corruption and class division is part of their culture, everybody takes a slice from police up to highest government, and until that is addressed the country gets no sympathy from me. The people, some of them I do feel bad for, but the country? It needs to get it's act together.

now we need to get the banks more involved. i saw a program interviewing some bankers and all they did is make excuses of why they weren't doing better. one interviewer even said to one of the bakners reminding him that the public bailed them with billions of dollars and shouldn't be giving back and we got more crap and excuses.

What amazes me about Jim (aside from his incredible IT abilities) is how calm he stays when he’s trying to intercept a scam. Just listening to it makes my heart rate go through the roof!
I'm from Kolkata, India. I know this place sector 5 very well and little bit this scam industry. This is very unfortunate to see. Local police take their share and allow them to run few giant call centers here. Police and administration should be blamed first.
PM Modi should start a new and clean anti corruption force to clear the old Police out first - then start catching all of these criminals and make sure these scammers are punished - I would love to be in charge and deal with these scammers!

So just because they are not scamming any Indian people that's why they are running them. You can always come to India and file a court case against these scammers then you can take this into legal custody

Telecommunications services providers should do more and even do a ad campaign about telephone scammers... they need to push the message out on scammers so people can avoid getting scammed

I got scammed through a phishing website on Facebook. Went through a company allegedly to 'get my funds back' (the name of the company). Turns out i would have had to pay $7000 to retrieve $3,300. That would have been a scam in itself. Thankfully, the bank saw through it and flagged as suspicious. They also stopped my card and issued me with a new one.

I had two active numbers claiming to be the ATO, I spent 24 minutes playing with him, I told him my name is Jim Browning, after taking all my false details down he passed me on to a "closer" to get me to pay what I owed, the penny finally droppped after he recognised the name.
The first guy was clueless.

Evil people always existed - its just an old construct preying on the weak links in our society . if more people were educated properly , scammers would have 60% less chances to succeed . let's explore the different root causes society in general has maintained over decades to explain the scam phenomenon . The biggest scammers is the Central Banking system owned by the Rothschild & Rockefellar families ....there are many documentations about their history & lining them to many world wide events .

BTW, unfortunately, as I also understand from my Indian co-workers, the parents of a lot of the scammers know about their sons'/daughters' scamming activities -- as long as money comes in it does not matter how, apparently...So very sad 😞... It only takes a bit of compassion, conscience and empathy to stay away from scamming.

As though it "akshually" needs saying but, the Indian Police are "akshually" in on the scamming.
There have been quite a few raids. The problem tends to be the local police. The main issue actually is the indian job market not providing nearly enough employment compared to the number of people graduating in comp sci courses and similar education. While the grand majority doesn't go into scamming the temptation is significant. I fear that without fixing this underlying issue this industry will continue to thrive even if you get the indian police on board and well funded.

Jim not only did this for Network 7 in Australia, he did it for CBC in Canada as well a few months ago (check the CBC News YT channel for the Marketplace hour-length episode).
Remember that CBC is a Government Owned entity, so they have a bit more pull there, even if Canada's Law Enforcement authorities haven't "pulled their weight" for their Citizens.

Even the Do Not Call Registry does not phase the phone scammers from dialling your number and its insane. Thank you Jim Browning and fellow scam baiters for slowing down the scammers while the Cyber Crime division of various Police Departments across the globe does nothing about this while ordinary citizens are losing millions to scammers every second.
There’s a number of good apps now like RoboCall Blocker that will sift through all the spam numbers and automatically block them
The only thing the Do Not Call Registry does for you is to enable you to sue US based companies for violations of the Telephone Consumers Protection Act. I recovered $25,000 in 18 months from final expense insurance, insurance company lead generators and political robocallers. Once that happens you are put on the real Do Not Call list. However, this does not stop these assholes. They’re criminals and I still get a lot of calls from Amazon scammers and other scumbags. I insult them with Hindi slurs and waste their time. I’m not technically savvy enough to set up a virtual machine to let them look at bogus bank accounts. I steal their time which is fun
People just need to learn to block numbers they don't know I fear.

Australian companies need to stop using India call centres. It's very confusing when I have to call Australian company's then its gets transferred to Indian call centres. Not been racist i just get paranoid when ever I get a call from Indians. Or the multiple scam sms here in Australia

Jim Browning, our hero! I'm a fan boy. I wish I could do what he does. I basically just waste scammers time and insult them in their own tongue.
An amazing documentary. Gave me the confidence to speak to the scammers and to ask them the questions about what they were doing, why they are doing this form of work and the consequences of their actions for not only the people they scam but about their own future. The two I have spoken are of Christian faith. I ask them how they are going to feel when they stand before their God to account to Him. One male scammer justified his actions due to no other work and a corrupt government (not sure if he was meaning his or ours). The other scammer, a female sounded ashamed. If you are going to speak with them, just be aware that they are worried about other scammers sitting near listening to them and so your questions might need to be yes/no questions and their answers might be quite simple. I followed the pattern of speaking to them that I heard on the show. I also dropped the line that I knew they were in Delta Four in Calcutta. Gave me credibility. Definitely think this documentary should be shown again. Thank you so much for doing it.
This is a BRILLIANT piece! I am very sceptical of main stream news outlets but when you do stories like this, this restores a little bit of faith that you can do the right thing from time to time. But...the obvious frustration that I could see your reporters experience when trying to assist the victims, is NOTHING in comparison to what multiple people or heroes that do this not even as their job, but as their LIFE!
They need more recognition & more support in general but especially from the government's of the countries that are being targeted. If the government of the source of the scams isn't doing anything (or enough), then there needs to be a JOINT/Collaborative effort to SHAME & PRESSURE them into doing something.

If Indian law enforcement authorities won't do anything about these scam call centres, the solution is simple: no more work visas should be granted to Indians wanting to migrate to Australia. No more travel visas to Indians either. No trade with India. Only with such sanctions their government would take action against those who prey on the weakest of our society, and perhaps against the local cops who take a cut and keep it quiet too.
Unfortunately tho Australia brings in them people for our economy and we supposedly don't have enough skilled workers that we can get just from people born here.

Scam call from India, is now common in Singapore also. Few months back, I used to get scam call almost everyday. If I am not busy, I chat with them and waste their time.

Jim Browning should bring this matter up to the Indian High Commissioner to the UK and scambaiter should get in touch with Indian embassies to explain these scam in India or the best is to get in touch with media outlets in India, UK, USA and Australia to bring down these scammers.

This was a fantastic in depth look into something all "1st world" countries need to be concerned/learn about.
I actually RECEIVED a scammer call as I was watching this (wild huh!?!). I wasted their time and frustrated them so much about where they got my number and information from that they hung up after thanking me for my time. Then I cussed her out before she could get off the phone.
Nobody needs to spend their life working hard to have it all taken away. I'd murder someone who took my mom's life's savings. It's very important that all people know these techniques so that we can prevent tribalism.
We don't need to view the victims of the world as the enemies. These places are very impoverished and I understand that due to the exchange rate, it's worth it for them. They could possibly feed their village off of the scams from ONE person. It almost makes you wanna do charity, but then you realize many of these charities are scammers too.
I really appreciate everything this channel shows us and everything these people are doing.
This video has created a fire in me to take down systems of destruction and build systems of security and trust.

I was scammed when the screen of my laptop went to Windows. There was a phone number which I, unknowingly, rang. Yep, I lost $700. That's when I started watching these shows. I have since foiled 3 other scams! Thanks to these protectors.

Someone needs to get a billboard with All the scammers Photos and have it posted all over as well as their local Indian TV stations so that everyone can see who they are. I would throw in posting their photos on instagram, facebook etc. Embarrassment and public shame

good to see some aussie content on scams, would've like to see more on what the AFP is doing but can understand they probs want to keep that under wraps.
The Australian government should pressure India to stop these scammers. This can be done through sanctions: no more visas to Indians till section 5 is closed. No more trade with India till the scam call centres are raided. We need to fight for our vulnerable and elderly. This is a war worth fighting.

Well someone should hold banks accountable without banks this scams would not happen.
The banks do have their eyes out for people, especially elderly people, who are withdrawing large sums of money. However, it is the person's money and the bank cannot keep them from taking it out if they insist.
This is a shameful moment for all Indians, Indian Central & State Govts and the whole justice system. This is the image we are building when widespread corruption among the people with power saves scammers. What a shame.

It's just ashame that we all have to worry about things like this. I'm in South Carolina, USA and recieve these calls all the time. Although u do love playing with them I wonder if they'll ever have a chance of breaking into my smartphone and getting into my personal info that way.
A few years back, I had one guy supposedly from "McAffee" security systems. He took me through my computer saying I had security risks to my computer and he was going to help me. Once I asked him about his name, "Greg Evens" (I believe he said to sound more American) he didn't want to tell me why he had a name such as that when he was from India..lol... He had a thick accent, not Americanised at all...lol...
From there I learned to play with them all...

Jim needs to be employed by cyber police, perhaps even the FBI's Cyber Division! He's a genius!
In Malaysia, the scammers are from the so-called 'IRS' , 'love scammers'(Nigerians usually), 'Macau scam' and job scammers(Cambodia). A few have been caught by local police and with the help of interpol. Many senior citizens have become victims, young women and as well as younger men looking for overseas 'jobs' with lucrative salaries. Thank you for this video, it's very informative and your investigation has helped a few victims, thank God 🙏 😥😔. I myself almost became an 'IRS' victim but the call I received was on a Sunday and I knew the IRS does not work on Sundays 😂😂😂😂 well, lucky me! Cheers! Keep up the good work 😃!
