I'm so glad we have this version of Funny Girl. Lea and Ramin as Nick and Fanny are an incredible pair with beautiful, natural chemistry. We need a cast recording stat!
Oh gosh, they both sound and look so great together!! Their chemistry really makes the love story believable. And it's quite evident that they're both being generous actors and singers to each other.
Ramin finally gets someone who can match his fantastic vocal…. Their vocal together could blow the roof of theater off.. the emotion and chemical between these two.. this is what we call Broadway performance…🎉
He has it with Benko as well it's just that the former star shouldn't have been put in that position. Poor Ramin it must have been a challenge singing opposite someone who is struggling. P.S. He and Michelle have terrific chemistry.
@@tomtomlinson4826 someone said he had chemistry with Banco, oh please, no he didn’t, you could actually hear that if you listen hard enough, next someone will say he had chemistry with Feldstein, for heaven sakes people, lea is the only one he truly has chemistry with.
I know I can hear it, I wish people would stop saying oh he had chemistry with Julie. He had chemistry with beanie. No, he didn’t. I’m blind, and I can tell that.
@@Leamichellefan2244 I’ve watched video of Ramin and Beanie singing this song, and besides it not sounding good, the lack of chemistry just made it awkward.
Some performers take a show into the stratosphere while they shine like a super nova. Streisand in Funny Girl, Hugh Jackman in Boy From Oz and now Lea Michele in Funny Girl. Please Mr. Producer, a cast album and DVD. all I want for Christmas.
Wow. It's now a duet?? Cool. Love how this goes into "People." I always felt this was one of the best songs from the stage and was sorry it wasn't in the film.
Ramin must be so happy to have someone he can really sing with. It must have been frustrating to have Beanie - despite her other talents - who could not keep up with him musically. Now he has an equal.
One critic described Beanie’s performance as a child’s perspective on an adult relationship. Another praised Lea’a vocal & acting abilities saying that Lea is certainly not merely “a clown”(an apparent comparison to Beanie who literally took “clown lessons” in preparation for her performance). There is likely blame on many fronts for the terrible miscasting of Beanie (she likely believed she was up to the challenge while others put her in the position of ultimately suffering career defining humiliation). It is good to know that casting corrections have been made & that this production is now being regarded with the respect it deserves.
@@lynnlawson4471 It must be mortifying and painful for Beanie to read the raves that Lea is getting. They are all implied criticism of her. Luckily, she is known as actor - comedian in film work. This won’t really hurt her career.
@@jlasf it could even strengthen her career. Great stars have all overcome something. Humiliation is not fun but anyone (not just the actors and other performers) who survives it, overcomes it & carries on will be better for it. ✌️
That was gorgeous. I have been listening to this duet over and over - Beanie, Julie and Lea, but seeing it is just beyond terrific. It has always brought tears to my eyes, but this is so special. Thank you.
I totally idolize Barbra, have her Broadway and film versions of Funny Girl, but when she sang this song I never felt emotionally involved as I do listening to Lea. She literally brought me to tears. What a shame she is ineligible for a Tony. She deserves one hands down. In the meantime, I wonder what rabbit hole beanie has fallen down🤔
Please don’t hate me but I prefer lea over barbara for the whole thing and as far as feldstein goes I wish people would stop saying she should still be in this show, I’m so sick of hearing that I could scream.

Thanks for posting! Sounds lovely but the blocking is so odd. It seems they are each face upstage when the have the melody during the big cross. But at least it’s one number where they are not sitting
What exactly would you have him do? Just curious. Seems pretty engaged to me. At least in this version of FG, Nicky actually gets to sing and has a presence, unlike the productions with she who shall not be named.
Yeah and thanks to Lee. He got somebody who could keep up with him vocally because I’m sorry the other two couldn’t and no you’re not gonna change my mind on that no offense.
How I wish they had let WHO ARE YOU NOW exist in the show as a single solo for Fanny. Or, at least, I wish they had let Fanny sing a complete, straight through version and then start the splitting up of the vocal (which I doubt was part of Jule Styne and Bob Merrill's original vision of the song). When the reprise of PEOPLE gets sandwiched inside WHO ARE YOU NOW, the "hit" song overpowers the much gentler WHO ARE YOU NOW. I wish that when producers want to revive an old show in which they find lots of dramatic problems they look for something else rather than these huge revisals. I don't mind the original writers and creators tinkering a bit with subsequent productions but throwing out old books, interpolating songs from dead composers' catalogues, and aggressive vocal arrangements just seems like too much work. I don't count the recent London/Broadway productions of COMPANY as an example of what I'm talking about because, actually, very little of the original Furth book was changed and Sondheim himself did the lyric updates and he nodded approvingly at the changes and was in conference with the director.
I love this, not just because I love Ramin and wished he had a better solo, but it really is the emotional high point of the show. I was pleasantly surprised at the creativity of combining the two songs as their marriage is falling apart. That chord in the middle gives me chills and I got tears the first time I heard it with Beanie and two well-matched voices singing the duet is, again, for me, sublime. Fanny has plenty of solos and The Music That Makes Me Dance is a solid follow up to this.
I don’t love it. For a split second I was reminded of World Goes Round’s “Isn’t this Better” (trio/solo) except that Isn’t it Better was flawless.. but of course it’s Kander and Ebb. This “Who are you now” lends itself perfectly to the title lol. Lea overpowers him and there’s no true blend when they sing together and sort of harmonize. And her very straight tone(no vibrato at all) leaves you just waiting for the warmth that doesn’t come and this song is all about Fanny having way too much love (warmth) and not enough everything else that a relationship needs to thrive and work. I think they did this to give Nick more singing time, and that’s understandable, but although the concept of both of them wondering the same thing about each other makes perfect sense I think the song is messy and needs a rewrite at best.
Weird opinion. Maybe you’re deaf? They sound well-blended and balanced and absolutely beautiful together. Lea’s voice has plenty of love and warmth here.
@@rachelpekar4243 I disagree but love that you took the time to comment. I’m always interested in hearing how other people see or hear things being that we all see color differently (ie will you ask your hairdresser to dye your hair red do you have to show them your idea of red otherwise their idea may be different than yours because they may see red car that looks cherry to us but looks magenta to them)

I agree I couldn't picture him with Beanie. They weren't believable ad a couple. It's not fat shaming. They just had no chemistry.
Ramin must be so happy to now be playing opposite Julie and now Lea. They both have the vocal chops to match his and that's saying something.
Finally a pairing of Nick and Fanny I can get behind. Gorgeous singing and fantastic acting from both.
