    Grreat to see you posting we missed you!
    I enjoyed this session - I would like to do more constant lighting work with models/actors for moody scenes where its easier to see and style a set and not overpower and balance the ambient light. But funny thing is most of them prefer flash so they dont have to deal with glaring light for a 2 -3 hour session. As bright as my budget 60w cob lights seem I end up at around 800 or 1600 ISO with lots of noise from my 8 year old Canon crop sensor 700D camera.

      I came from a career in TV and there is no problem with continuous lights. We used them on 12 hour shoot sessions in the studio with no problem. Continuous light is fine even up to sunlight. Footballers on a sunny day don’t have a big problem.

    Damien was my inspiration from when I first started my photography business. He has a total grasp of lighting and using the model and their surroundings to best effect. I have very fond memories of feeling excited on a couple of his photography courses and when he encouraged me to get a Canon 5D Mark 1 which was a massive purchase for me back then.

    How you been shadow banned? I subscribed a long time ago and never see your videos pop up in my feed, except this one. I really like your session "generalship", with few commands, a few suggestions and the session is a wrap. That is real skill in imaging the results before the shutter release. Models must love you. Don't bill by the hour:>) I try to keep sessions light hearted and fun but experimenting gets on everyone's nerves. Most of my work is with actors so if I explain to them the intent and style, they are pretty good with accepting direction. They are stage actors so they are used to doing their own thinking what looks right 13 rows out is good, so I need photo MUA and tell the actors to come with zero makeup, fresh from the shower.

    On the show "Trading Spaces", they decorated a room in someone's home that looked just like the set you're in - they glued hay all over the walls. The homeowners were not happy at all.
    Anyway, thank you for posting this video. I've watched HOURS of your instruction, and learned a lot from you. Thanks!

    Great video Damien. Can you please advise as to what continuous light(s) would be suitable for use at weddings - say for the getting ready part or for portraits - obviously need to take into account portability and battery life etc and relative ease of quick set up. Already got your scatter gels by the way. thank you!

    • @LovegroveTraining

      Hi, I used flash for 99% of all wedding coverage. Occasionally I used continuous light to shoot the bride and groom interiors if the weather was bad or it was a winter wedding. Once we got to the reception one of us got the kit from the car and rigged it while the other captured the milling shots etc. We used Lupo Dayled dual colour 1000 fresnels. These days there are so many lights to choose from. Take your pick! Flash is so much easier especially if you have group shots to do and need f/11 ;)

    I guess if you're working with continuous light like this it wouldn't be a big step to move to video! It seems you weren't using eye-AF, just had a focus box somewhere on the face. Any reason for that?

    • @LovegroveTraining
      @LovegroveTraining  Рік тому +1

      I used to be a BBC cameraman and lighting director back in the last century ;) Eye AF isn't really useable on this camera but the tiny AF box in the right place delivers perfect results every time.
