- New Zealand Rugby's voting members gathered for a Special General Meeting last week to vote on a proposed governance reform - in the end, 'Proposal 2' passed by 69 votes to 21.
This will allow the provincial unions to still have three seats on the board, compared to the failed 'Proposal 1' (voted against by 59 to 31) that would've instated the recommendations made by the Pilkington Report for a fully independent board.
So, where does that leave rugby union in New Zealand? How will it impact both the professional and amateur levels of the sport?
NZ Rugby CEO Mark Robinson joined Scotty Stevenson & Israel Dagg in-studio today on SENZ to discuss what positives there are currently, the provincial unions, how fundamental the NPC is to the game, and more.

He keeps waffling about whats to come, instead of having a solid plan about how to improve the organisation. He then has the gall to say "I don't want to ruin the surprise that's soon to be announced",spit it out Mark for goodness sakes.
He came on and offered absolutely nothing about how they intend to influence and better the organisation. For someone who heads up the organisation I'm concerned how vague he is. There was ample time to have a solid contingency should the vote at he SGM not go their way, it didn't, and now he's left floundering with nothing significant to say to the New Zealand public and provide us a clear strategic plan. He seems like a lost ship, blissfully adrift in the ocean, being swept away with the prevailing current, with not a care in the world. More likely flying business class, 5 star hotels and schmoozing in Michelin starred restaurants.

@@colinmeehan791well said. The way he speaks its like classic media cliche scripted stuff. He already knows what he's saying before he gets interviews. Circles around everything thrown at him by responding to each question with a lot of words but ultimately no answers given. It's sugar coating of the highest order.. All they care about is the fancy title there job holds and the nice pay packets and the 5 star facilities they get around in for there conferences and what have you.
Robertson and the entire board need to be sacked asap 🎪 too busy worrying about diversity and getting some Frenchman to destroy our jersey ffs 🙄🤦🏽♂️

The board does not want to bite the bullet and take a hit. They do want to improve the game but not to the detriment of their own positions. It will come to a point where they will have no choice which will take time and money that could have been saved by doing the right thing for the game. These selfish sob's need to go, now!

He's got to be joking, Super Rugby has gone down since the Sth African teams pulled out. The toughness has been lost, adding more Australian teams has weakened Super Rugby for sure. A NZ team will win it 99% each year atm and that's fact. Must be fun travelling around the the world having these little "fun" conversations he waffles on about...🙄
Super Rugby should be positioned as the pacific champions league. Top 4 from AU, NZ and Japan. Performance based. Increased viewership from Japan = increased revenue

Totally agree. Even our weakest of NZ teams is generally the Highlanders, where the best of the Australian teams do struggle to beat and the aussie teams are never going to win the comp because unless a team like the brumbies finish first on the ladder to get home advantage right through in the finals. They won't win a comp by beating a kiwi team in New Zealand. They struggle big time in NZ. The South Africans made the comp a tough old battle. Now it's like touch footy. The aussies play too much like us but without the same skill level and clinical edge
Make NPC the new Super Rugby
Super rugby needs more teams or to cut the numbers that can make it to finals.
Not more teams,replace teams, shorten the comp duration only top 6 make playoffs,waratahs need to go,moana need to go force need to go bring in sum new fresh teams

The finals system is a farce. Top 8 out of a 12 team comp is ridiculous. More than half the teams in the comp make finals. Then you get teams like drua etc that are only making the numbers up in there. Crusaders barely won any games and almost made it. Should be a top 6 or top 4
Living in Oz, haven’t watched super rugby in years, product is boring asf, even with the ABs I’m from the old school where we never missed a test match, might just catch the highlights these days coz the game (rugby) is trash now.
I'm the same. The good old days of the Bledisloe late 90s, early 2000, 2004 era.. They were the test match, brumbies v crusader super rugby finals either in Canberra and chch, rugby was thriving then. Now rugby is too business drawn. Players and coaches can't do anything for themselves now. It's all marketing and TV rights. Not to mention the game of rugby is soft. There's barely 15 players on the park these days with more cards thrown out than a casual game of snap in the living room table. Even league is getting a bit that way but at least you can still understand the rules in that game.

Hey bud, this is the way forward, I’ll say it again. Bring in the provincial teams into super and make one league super NPC. Invite a couple Australian teams in and over time have Australian littered throughout the teams.
A lot like kiwis in the NRL.
Basically our version or the NRL comp. This is the long term view and goal that will work.

yeah 💯 You could tell Izzy was getting under Robbos skin there a bit. Izzy was shooting straight from the hip, he wasn't missing.. Robbo was trying to laugh it off by trying to play devil's advocate with Izzy by robbo almost smuggly questioning his lack of positivity shall we say in rather choked up guilty laughing manner. The difference was Izzy wasn't joking. Robbo never gave him clear answers of where the money is going. Just rambled on a whole lot of nothing that ultimately lead to nothing of what Izzy asked of him.

@Marius_vanderLubbe The comp only has probably 5 decent teams in the whole comp, and the majority of them are kiwi teams with the acception of maybe the brumbies. The rest of them are just make shift teams put together to give the comp more matches to play. Super rugby Aotearoa was much better to watch. But super rugby has never been the same since the South African teams have left the comp. It's best days were when it was a super 12 comp, top 4 playoff system. Super 14, top 6, it was still quite strong. Then slowly but surely Super rugby had lost its way when they added the sun wolves, jaguares and year by year the comp just had too many mis matches. It's a shambles now the comp
