She is a syrian hamster and we made this video when she was one year old. She lived another year and a half before she passed away from old age. This did not hurt her.
She was a very sweet hamster and did not mind being held and loved rolling in her ball. She got out of her cage three times - but we just left the cage open and she returned the next night.

I love how he realizes the last carrot stick was a bit too large. So he actually takes it out, eats some of it to make it shorter, then puts it back in. Smart little vacuum he is.

"Hamster" means "hoarder" in German. They have pouches in their cheeks, in which they store food to eat later. I had no idea that they could store *that* much, however. Amazing!

First off, if the hamster puts too much food in it's pouches, the cheek will collapse.
Second, hamsters are hoarders. They're going to fit as much food in their cheeks as possible, because their brains are programmed that way. Because of this, giving them too much food like that to see how much they can handle can be fatal.
Third, your hamster looks slightly obese. This can be caused by overfeeding the hamster (which is evident) and giving it too many treats such as carrots (which is also evident).
If giving your hamster a treat, give him a little bit of carrot or other fruit/vegetable. Don't feed him an entire carrot. Too many treats not only causes obesity and diabetes (hamsters are extremely prone to diabetes), can also cause wet tail (diarrhea caused by too much moisture in their diets, and can dehydrate them within hours. Chances are you'll never save a hamster from full blown wet tail.) Stick with regular hamster food for their main diet, and one tiny piece of vegetable/fruit per day.
***** meh, i don't believe it anyway. A gerbil in the wild doesn't need anyone telling it "You mustn't store more than three carrots it'll be fatal", it knows when to stop. I hate it when well-meaning people think they know more than an animal's natural instincts.

I used to camp at this place that had many Chipmunks that were used to people. They would come and sit on my knee and I would give them Corn nuts. They would pack their cheeks like this until they couldn't fit anymore in and then scamper off to their dens and unload and come right back for more. Cute little critters. I guess all little animals like Hamsters and Chipmunks and Squirrels do this.
