      Because there are hundreds of thousands of words in the English language, and it's impossible to know all of them. Also, I know a lot of words that just don't come to mind when I'm in conversation with someone, so these videos are a good way to keep them fresh.

    timing = 38:58.
    cliche examples
    I had an idea of cliche might emanate/exude negative flavor because of its synonyms (platitude, stereotype, commonplace, banality ). but these examples would be not only positive/educative but also feasible to use innovatively(digging up novelty from old-fashioned).

    Maybe I am lacking weird expressions in english. But so far, in this video and others, I noticed that most of them make sense and could be guessed without explanation. In french our expressions defy the laws of logic. For instance: stand someone up in french is "poser un lapin à quelqu'un", yes : to give/put a rabbit to someone. Is there anything similar to that in english ? 😂

    • @thelma-7777
      @thelma-7777 Рік тому

      Native Portuguese speakers can infer some expressions. E.g.: trial and error = tentativa e erro. Beyond a shadow of a doubt = sem sombra de dúvida.

    • @genekisayan6564
      @genekisayan6564 Рік тому

      @@thelma-7777 but still yours also make some sense. In french we have the "faire une nuit blanche" = make a white night which means that someone hasn't slept of the entire evening and night. This kind of expressions are not inferrable, you have to know it 😂😂

    Hi teacher Wes , here are some examples of mine 😊
    -I think our whole life is a process of trial and error 😊 we live and we learn.
    - I'm glad to meet you, but first I have a Bone to pick with you, to clear the air .
    -don't stress yourself over it, let's play it by ear, and see what will happen.
    I'm not the kind of person who goes with the flow, I always have my own plans and perspectived.
    - I bought this dress but I never wore it , it's money down the drain.
    -Let's not rush things, and jump to conclusions, time will tell .
    - don't give him difficult tasks, he's a new employee, he's out of his depth ( wet behind his ears)
    The pictures of the great wall in china don't do it justice.
