@@Benjamin-ie1gb thanks for your comment, I will be focusing more content on menswear and reviews in the future. While I don’t specifically have a dress shoes video planned, I can tell you a brand I really like is CNES.
They are certainly decent shirts for the price. Personally I’d wish the had s little better non- wrinkle performance, but overall for the price a good shirt.

I am looking for a high performance utility shirt. I work out doors and our climate is warm. Thank you again for your time. Mark
As a Swede here are a few scandinavian shirt brands I can suggest: Morris Stockholm (Swedish), Matinique (Danish), Stenströms (Swedish) Riley (Only sold in Brothers stores in Sweden). 😊
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video! I am a young professional getting started with my professional wardrobe. I really appreciate it!
Great reviews. I'm big AND tall. 6'3" with a dad bod, at 290 pounds. Your assessment of Paul Fredrick is spot on. Because they run a little big, they're perfect for my build. Charles Tyrwhitt also gives me that extra inch in the midsection.
I've had a lot of Brooks Brothers and Charles Tyrwhitt shirts over the past 10 years, and I'd have to say that my experience would put Charles Tyrwhitt above Brooks Brothers based on durability and the appearance of the weave/patterns. I think they go above and beyond based on the price.
I would tend to agree. They make a good shirt for the money. My problem… I’ve become more and more addicted to the performance shirts that have stretch. Last I checked, CT didn’t offer a performance shirt. Wish they did.
For non-performance dress shirts. I have found it hard to beat CT for the value. I noticed the comments about CT non-iron capably and would disagree if you get the twill shirts. They seem to be better at non-iron than the other cloth types at CT.
Googled Charles T Shirt Review, sorted by new, and you came up. Exactly what I needed to hear, well defined chapter boundaries so I can jump right to what matters to me. And now I'm so interested that I want to watch the rest of the video! Thanks for putting the time into this video, I appreciate it.
Brad, So glad I discovered your channel. Excellent review. I have been stuck in Brooks Brothers for decades and hesitant to try something new. Thank You!
Great video my dude. My wedding is in a few weeks. Was looking for a nice shirt to wear without a tie but with a suit for my rehearsal dinner. Decided to go with an Eton. They look incredible. Found one significantly discounted at Nordstrom. Also went with a Buttercloth for the brunch the day after.
Woodies shirt fit well... but the fabric was disappointing. No stretch and just OK with non-wrinkle. Since this video was published they've introduced a new variation of their performance shirt. It would be in my TOP 5 now... still not quite as good as Mizzen+Main or Truwear, but the excellent made-to-fit sizing puts them high on my lift. I plan to do an update to this video in the next year.
Great comparison! Keep this up as it's the most informative and comprehensive I've found on UA-cam. Any plans on future videos like this one? Specifically, polo and t-shirt?
I like alot of the shirts you featured, my advice I would give for a follow up is on where the shirts are made. Not because of quality being a problem from places like China but rather how the company treats the workers matters alot to me at least. Thanks for hearing me out, hope you have a blessed day.
Thank you for this video, watched the performance pants video which was also great. Hope you keep these videos up. Last time i bought a shirt was in 2015, sadly time to update.
This is the first time I've watched one of your videos - really well structured, useful, and likeable presentation! Charles Tyrwhitt is my personal favorite. Thanks for the review and best wishes from Austria!
Haven’t done a review video (just yet) and most of my sports coats I buy in Europe… they seem to have excellent quality blazers and they’re generally less expensive in Europe. In the USA, a good and reasonably priced blazer that I’ve enjoyed is the Kenneth Cole Awearness brand. They’re typically priced very reasonably and they’re widely available.
Great review particular for a guy who's also not "slim". Thanks for saving me some time!! I've never heard of a couple of these including your number 1 selection.
Thank you for making this video. I discovered Brooks Brothers a few years back and was heartbroken when their availability fell off the cliff during COVID. I'm also a big fan of Twillory and just ordered more shirts from them. You might want to try out the Zip Fit shirts from Teddy Stratford - that's another of my favorites. Great video!
Very nicely done. Thank you. It has taken me awhile, but I'm starting to appreciate investing in higher-quality clothing. I really like the stretchy stuff for comfort.
I just recently switched my standard business casual shirt collection from Bugatchi to Eton - mainly because Eton is one of the very few affordable (though pricey) brands that are not Made in China. They're Made in Romania, so relatively affordable for European-made clothing. I admit - Bugatchi shirts have never failed me, and I love the selection and design, fit and feel. I just can't support companies that manufacture in China, if I have another option (I'm not getting rid of my iPhone).
I live in Mexico, Bugatchi was only available in a store like Saks 5th Avenue called El Palacio de Hierro, and they had a retail price of $150 which is A LOT in Mexico, that prices are considered super high, the people who wear them aren't bussinesmen, just wealthy people, young and use them for party and casual stuff.
Most shirt makers across the spectrum (from Van Heusen on the low end, to Eton on the high-end) offer non-wrinkle. Some do a much better job than others. If you travel for business (particularly in places like Europe where there aren’t readily available irons in hotel rooms) having a non-wrinkle shirt is essential. A good non-wrinkle shirt… and especially a good performance shirt… offers a clean, crisp look… rarely (if ever) requires ironing… and is also very comfortable. I stand by my recommendations in the video. Get yourself a Truwear, Mizzen+Main, Buttercloth, Eton, or Twillory. In my opinion, any of them would be a step up from an old school Brooks Brothers shirt.
This is such a well put together video. I felt the need to comment and subscribe to your channel. When making a purchase, this video will help me buy new shirts.
A really, really good list! I've been looking to expand and upgrade my shirts, and got a bunch of new places to look now. Most recommendation videos I have watched have much pricier options and never mention some of the top brands here (except Eton and Twillory). So glad I can step up my shirt game now without morgtaging my house. ;)
I absolutely love this content. Thank you...I am 6 ft tall and 230 lbs and dress shirts for mhe worst. I have a 19 ik no matter how much weight I lose so I am constantly on the lookout. Great Job
Btw for all the issues people have with various things with Mens Wearhouse, the shirts Pronto Oumo and Joseph Aboud have been many of my best-the blends. They sometimes have different styles, they- and I have to admit suits-last longer than any shirt of any other kind. You can get the blends and you can get a sale three for 100 and a bit more if you’re a big guy.
I’ve shopped at Men’s Wearhouse many times throughout the years. I’ve had better luck with their suits and sports jackets. It’s not that their shirts are bad quality… I think they are very comparable to Dillards Gold Label or Jos. A. Banks. Unfortunately, in that $30-$50 off-the-rack range that you find in the stores, you typically don’t get many performance features. I like a shirt with some good stretch, superb non-iron performance…. For just a little bit more money… you can get a better shirt that’s so much more comfortable and enjoyable to wear (such as Twillory, mizzen+main, or Truwear.
I can’t believe how well done this video is. I would be curious to see how so of the new “custom” shirts stack up in the line up. Such as MTailor and other mobile app camera fit shirts.
Thanks for your comment... glad you liked the video. The video does include a review of a Woodies shirt - which definitely falls into the category of a semi-custom / online configurable shirt. With Woodies you select your style and features... and they also have a custom sizing algorithm which works pretty well. I personally think we'll see more of these shirt makers in the future. I will plan to do another shirt review... but it'll probably be in 2024 as this video is still very relevant. My plan is to include a few other manufacturers such as Bluffworks, Ledbury, etc.
I'm an Untuckit fan because they're perfect for my work attire (nice jeans and an untucked button down) and they double as a nicer going out shirt. I think some of their new shirts are much better than the older ones. I haven't had any of the issues you mentioned about the quality, but I'm also not paying attention to things like button quality as much. I've also never bought one for $99. I usually get them for around $60-80 which is pretty good for what they are I think. I have a few Charles Tyrwhitt and they wrinkle so badly and I'm not a huge fan of their fit, but other than that they feel pretty solid (not sure if they really should be dry cleaned instead). Thanks for the video!
Thanks for your comment. We will probably have to agree to disagree with Untuckit. I"ve just found their quality underwhelming, particularly with so many good alternatives. Twillory, Truewear, Mizzen+Main, Woodies... all seem to be better constructed... and many now allow you to select if you want a shorter cut to accommodate the untucked look. A lot of better options in the same general price range as Untuckit. I agree with you with regards to Charles Tyrwhitt, their non-iron performance is poor. If I were to remake this video, I would be more harsh on them. They have a good name and decent quality... I think they're missing a big opportunity by not creating a better non-iron shirt with a little bit of performance stretch.
I’d like to order a few Mizzen and Main shirts but I’m unsure of what size to order. Our body types are remarkably similar; did you order an xl or a double xl? Thanks much! Love your videos.
Eton - i have spent a small fortune over the last decade. I don't like elastane in my shirts and the best quality for money - many 5+ yrs but same as they were new. You need to pay for the quality.
This video seemed to hinge on the “performance” aspect of shirts, yet Eton received perhaps the most praise (price aside) while paying the least homage to performance. Hmmm
@@edwardo737 he covered best dress shirts in all segments and not the performance only shirts. Eton isn't performance by the "very definition" but it lasts long time and perfect for travelling and frequent use, saying w/ last 5-6 years of exp.
Spent a fortune as well but have quality problems, after about 2 years with Kent collars which have sticks built in, which you can not remove ! Van Laack is better quality.
No Charvet on this list?! 😳😱 Eton is my favorite shirt. I wish they had more shops in the states. They do have fantastic performance shirts now. Great fabric.
I have not tried Manual Outfitters. I know they were recommended highly by the Kavalier, but they have been out of stock every time I’ve been to their web site. They also seem rather niche… only offering 2 shirts. If they get serious and stock up again… I’ll include them in my next review.
Excellent Review. I had a Abercrombie and Fitch Dress Shirt when I was in college. It was head and shoulders above anything else in my wardrobe. The quality of the fabric was excellent and buttons were amazing. Sadly I wore it out. Been looking for something like it ever since. Where do you think Kirkland Signature Brand Shirts Stack Up. Obviously they are very inexpensive, but what about value?
Thanks for watching. I've found that Abercrombie uses high quality fabrics... I remember having a sweater from Abercrombie that lasted a very long time. Though I must admit, I haven't shopped there in many years and didn't even know they made dress shirts. I haven't purchased any Kirkland Signature shirts... I'll have to take a look. Based on my experience with the Kirkland brand, the quality is typically good for the price. I'm not sure about their selection... I would assume they have limited styles and colors. Next time I visit Costco, I'll be sure to take a look.
They are definetely on my short list to try along with Ledbury, Ministry of Supply and a few others. It was tough to stop at 20 shirts! It looks like Thomas Pink also has some performance shirts with some built in stretch. Since starting this project a few months ago... I'm not ALL IN with performance shirts!
I’ve kept my eye on Ledbury, they look quite nice, however they DO NOT make a performance dress shirt. I think $135 (the price I’ve seen for most Ledbury shirts) is too much for a 100% cotton shirt when (for the same price) I could get a Mizzen+Main, Truwear, or Buttercloth for the same price or less. Since publishing this video last year, I’ve switched almost entirely to performance dress shirts… the comfort and stretch is what I prefer.
Thanks for your kind words and the sub. You’ll find my channel is mostly travel related content… but every now and then I find time for a good review. All the best!
Haven't tried Tie Bar yet. Looking at their web site it appears they have some good designs and decent prices. However, it doesn't appear they have a true performance dress shirt. All of their shirts are 100% cotton - which means NO STRETCH. Since publishing this video (18 months ago) I really recommend performance dress shirts that have at least some stretch... it makes a world of difference in comfort.
In ETON, you could have picked a smaller fit, as they have 4 different ones. Your shirt is a bit too big for you. Also: always make sure you don't have pleats in the fabric at the front above the belt: move excess fabric to the back - it looks better. Just an idea.
Thanks for your comment. Your points are well taken... in the case of the Eton shirt, part of the difficulty is the neck size needs to accomodate for a tie - therefore I needed to size up. Best solution would be for me to lose about 30 pounds. I have another Eton that used to fit terrific until I gained some weight. They are stellar shirts... some of very best in my opinion. I just need to lay off the calories!
I wish you had included in your review exact sleeve length. Too long a sleeve looks terrible. Buttoning the second button for the "shorter" length is too tight and bunches the sleeve looking bad.
I’m a 34/35. I’ve found sleeve lengths can vary drastically… most of the shirt makers are true to size… some miss badly. I always prefer a slightly longer shirt and I can get my tailor to adjust if necessary.
I have not owned a Hawes and Curtis shirt. It’s a brand that I need to try (I plan to do another shirt review video next year). My understanding is that they offer high quality shirts, perhaps similar (or slightly better) than Brooks Brothers or Paul Fredrick, but not quite as nice as Eton. I will say, I’m increasingly wearing performance dress shirts (about 80 % of the time). Mizzen + Main has become my go to brand since this video was published last year (I think they were my second highest rated dress shirt). The comfort level and breathability with a performance dress shirt really can’t matched. The appearance is almost indistinguishable from regular dress shirts. Brands like Charles Tyrwhitt, Paul Fredrick, Pink, Hawes and Curtis… they still don’t produce a performance dress shirt. Some brands like Brooks Brothers and Eton are starting to offer them. I personally think most would be happier with a performance shirt compared to a traditional dress shirt. If you haven’t yet… I’d recommend trying one.
This video came up for me when I was searching for sport coat reviews, but wound up watching it anyway because I definitely wear a lot of dress shirts as well. Who made the blue sport coat you're wearing in the beginning and end?
Not hot… good breathable fabric. I own five Truwear shirts - all are very nice. Not quite as cool as the Buttercloth Icy Cotton… but has a nicer fit and finish.
They certainly make some beautiful shirts... but must of them are casual type shirts with interesting prints, not dress shirts or performance dress shirts. Facconable fall in to the same category. Can't include everything.
You missed the best shirtmakers, which might also be the best value for money since they last much longer than the cheap ones; Finamore, Borrelli and 100 Hands. Eton can be OK but they're not very transparent on the fabric used.
Fair enough… but as I mentioned in the video… my goal was not to focus on luxury shirt brands, but on the most popular and well known brands. Surely Maybach and Ferrari build some of the best cars in the world… far more people want to know about Tesla and Toyota.
@@bradball It's not a good analogy, those three brands aren't ultra luxury, you can find their shirts for as low as $120 on sale and they're probably better value for money because they last a lot longer.
@@toobalkain Acknowledged. Sounds like there’s a great opportunity for Toobalkain’s best luxury shirts for the money UA-cam video review! Jump on in… the water’s warm!
@@bradball nah, I appreciate people making classic menswear content but it's not really my thing, I'd have to learn shooting and editing and what not, not to mention I find the whole social media thing a tad unhealthy, or maybe I'm just getting too old, not easy teaching an old dog new tricks.
Just the video I was looking for approaching Father's Day. I was going to get my husband an AndCollar for the price, wrinkle resistance and cool temp but the S M L Izung is throwing me. I need neck and sleeve in inches. The right neck for M wouldnt have lo g enough sleeves. He is one of those annoying people who eats cookies daily and has a washboard stomach 😆 so at least that isnt an issue. He actually didn't like Buttercloth... he thought they were hot and not quite long enough sleeves. 🤷♀️
Thanks for watching. Hopefully the video was helpful for you. The SMLXL sizing can be tricky to navigate. Truwear (sizing runs small) or Twillory (true sizing) might be good options for you that offer more than SMLXL sizing options. Good luck!
It’s possible I misused a word… then again… perhaps not. www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/is-boughten-a-word#:~:text=Yes.,of%20not%20being%20a%20word.
Woodies came very close. I like my Woodies shirt and I think that most people would be happy with the quality and workmanship. Price-for-the-money was one consideration... Woodies shirts rarely go on sale. Also, I had high expectations for the performance aspect... and found that Woodies didn't have much stretch and didn't quite perform as well as some other shirts with non-wrinkle. Fit and overall quailty... Woodies is a good shirt... if you don't mind paying over $100+.
Twillory and Bonobos pops up often. My experience, Twillory wins. You'll realize after your first wash, the Twillory holds up much better. Bonobos reminds me of a better fitting Express dress shirt. Eeeek. 😢 Moreover, wish some of the companies would offer number sizing vs the standard s, m, l.
I surely wish companies would offer number sizing as well. Twillory makes a good shirt. Probably not my favorite... as I really like Mizzen+Main, but overall a good shirt.

Thanks man this was a great review I hope you estimation is accurate I think I’m going with Charles T as these are going to be weekly wear for work.
Thank you! This is so helpful. ❤
Great video!!
This helped me tremendously. Please make more "best" videos for menswear.
Thanks for your comment. Best performance pants video coming in a couple of months.
I’d like to order a few Mizzen and Main shirts but I’m unsure of what size to order. Our body types are remarkably similar; did you order an xl or a double xl? Thanks much! Love your videos.
I wear an XL with Mizzen+Main. Regular length, Classic Fit.
Good luck.
Eton - i have spent a small fortune over the last decade. I don't like elastane in my shirts and the best quality for money - many 5+ yrs but same as they were new. You need to pay for the quality.
I agree… Eton shirts are among the very best available. Expensive, but worth it.
Eton is my favorite shirt.
I wish they had more shops in the states.
They do have fantastic performance shirts now. Great fabric.
Very good Guide! Thank you!
appreciate the detailed review
Really good video 👍 thanks.
Have you tried Manual Outfitters and what do you think of it?
@@bradball another brand I really like that wasn’t on your list was Thomas Pink. Great fabric, nice designs, and quality that lasts.
Have you heard of Ledbury? I've heard they're pretty nice. They're in the $150 price range.
Since publishing this video last year, I’ve switched almost entirely to performance dress shirts… the comfort and stretch is what I prefer.
a very impressive video, really well done, informative, and easy to digest. i'll subscribe to you base on this excellent video!
Thanks for your kind words and the sub. You’ll find my channel is mostly travel related content… but every now and then I find time for a good review. All the best!
Great video I buy from mid to high however I am in the market low end shirts for flights as I attended seminars around the country (usa(
Great job 👏
Great content!
So informative thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
What size and fit Mizzen and Main shirt do you wear? We have a similar build
I wear the XL.
Which one had the buttons made of mother of pearl?
The Eton shirt had mother of pearl. I would check before you buy... I'm not sure if all of their shirts have mother of pearl.
Amazing video!

The twillory shirts are the most stylish and best price if you buy more than one.
I think Twillory are a very good shirt... certainly a better deal if you purchase multiple.
Have you tried State and Liberty?
What do you think about Tie Bar dress shirts?
Haven't tried Tie Bar yet. Looking at their web site it appears they have some good designs and decent prices. However, it doesn't appear they have a true performance dress shirt. All of their shirts are 100% cotton - which means NO STRETCH. Since publishing this video (18 months ago) I really recommend performance dress shirts that have at least some stretch... it makes a world of difference in comfort.
I buy Buttercloth and Robert Graham shirts regularly. Yes, sign up, and discounts will come to your inbox
Hawes and Curtis… are they good?
It's a Kenneth Cole Awearness Blazer.
@@bradball thank you so much!!!
Is the Truwear hot?
Not hot… good breathable fabric. I own five Truwear shirts - all are very nice. Not quite as cool as the Buttercloth Icy Cotton… but has a nicer fit and finish.
@@bradball thanks! I appreciate the work you did on this.
This is a great video
Ty for the video
It it absolutely criminal that are NOT talking about Claudio Lugli Shirts!
They certainly make some beautiful shirts... but must of them are casual type shirts with interesting prints, not dress shirts or performance dress shirts. Facconable fall in to the same category. Can't include everything.
If price wasn’t a factor, how would you compare Charles Tyrwhitt with Brooks brothers?
@@tomhook07 Sorry, I’ve owned multiple of both shirts. Both decent… (I like BB more) but hardly the best dress shirt available for the money.
Can't believe you forgot to mention Charvet when talking about high-end shirts
Excellent point. I honestly could have named a number of other luxury high-end brands such as Ermenegildo Zegna, Charvet, or Finamore.
Do a wig review, I want to know what is the best brand. 😅
You bet MrBB
Best review
Good luck!
You have bought'n?
It’s possible I misused a word… then again… perhaps not.

Thank you bro
Im surprised based on your Pros the Woodies didnt make the list?
Woodies came very close. I like my Woodies shirt and I think that most people would be happy with the quality and workmanship. Price-for-the-money was one consideration... Woodies shirts rarely go on sale. Also, I had high expectations for the performance aspect... and found that Woodies didn't have much stretch and didn't quite perform as well as some other shirts with non-wrinkle.
Fit and overall quailty... Woodies is a good shirt... if you don't mind paying over $100+.
Exilent All thing thanks
Twillory and Bonobos pops up often. My experience, Twillory wins. You'll realize after your first wash, the Twillory holds up much better. Bonobos reminds me of a better fitting Express dress shirt. Eeeek. 😢
Moreover, wish some of the companies would offer number sizing vs the standard s, m, l.
I surely wish companies would offer number sizing as well. Twillory makes a good shirt. Probably not my favorite... as I really like Mizzen+Main, but overall a good shirt.
