For us oily girls, even over 55, I love that you always mention how important a primer is. Because of your recommendations, I am no longer an oil slick 😂
I'll never complain about an oily complexion.. I was oily all my life, hardly every wore make-up, cleansed with Nutrogena soap and Oil of Olay moisturiser .... then started menopause at 59, finished at 61 and suddenly, dried out like a prune!! Well, dry anyway, and started to get lines and grey hair (seemed like overnight!) Now I'm using face masks, morning moisturiser, night cleanser and face creams!! And now need a bit of make-up to put colour in my face!! 😊
I’m putting together a kit to test your advice. I’ve worn makeup for over 50 years. So I’m clearly not a beginner. However, I do advise people on application techniques and am often asked about a basic kit. It looks like you have saved me a huge amount of time and effort. Thank you.

Risa, I've been following you for a while and I'm not someone who comments on anything, but I think you are the best adviser/youtuber for over 40s out there. I'm 50 and have always loved makeup. Like you said in this video i am one who lost her way with makeup when i was raising my family. By the time i got back into it (in my late 30s) i had lost my confidence and knowledge of what suited me let alone how to apply it. Your videos have been an education for me and i trust your opinion. I love high end and drug store. I live in Ireland but recently visited brother in Philadelphia - i went armed to Sephora and Ulta with my wish lists recommended by you (as we don't have either here). I was not disappointed. You look amazing with or without makeup. P.S. i'm an oily girl too!

Risa, I just had to post a huge thank you for saying that not every skin needs primer! I have normal skin that looks pretty good for a mature woman. I never felt the need to use primer, even though many beauty influencers seem to think it is a requirement. It is so refreshing to hear someone say it! I also agree with you about your eyeshadow palette choice. I finally got the Always Naked palette at my local Walgreens. Last one! I just love it. Really one of the best drugstore eyeshadow palettes ever. Many thanks for another informative video!

I’m 47, and I too find that many eyeliners now cause me irritation! I’d love, love, love to see a video (or a TT) showing your fave eyeliners (all prices) that don’t irritate your eyes. I hadn’t put it together until you said it in this video that many of the eyeliners that I can’t wear ARE gel pencils. I keep reverting back to my favorite MAC pencil, because it doesn’t irritate my eyes, but now I want to find some new options!
Another great setting spray is the one from Flower Beauty. It has the most perfect fine mist-very impressive for a non-aerosol. I like it so much better than the much celebrated Charlotte Tillbury. As always, you look beautiful, Risa!

These are some great suggestions. I have many of these in my collection (I purchased some because you recommended them in a previous video). L'Oreal Fresh Wear foundation is my go-to favorite. I also like the new L'Oreal bronzer and Lash Paradise mascara. Elf also has a lot of good affordable brushes. Maybe you should do a video for a beginner brush set that doesn't cost so much with a few basic must haves. Like maybe 3 eye and 3 face brushes to get them started. My first eye brush set was from Walgreens (their brand for $6). After a few years and acquiring many other brushes I still use a few of those brushes daily. The rest of my brush collection is mostly elf.

I love that Milani eyeshadow primer. I have repurchased that numerous times. I do use face primer but have to be careful what kind I use is because of my extremely dry skin. It helps my makeup stay on longer. I use the Milani Brightening and Milani Skin Quench primers especially to help with my pores. I have always wanted to try the Dewy version foundation from WnW. I love the Loreal Freshwear foundation. Repurchased numerous times. I add a touch of oil to mine. I bought one of the WnW palette. The blushing mauves one. I agree with you. They are wonderful palettes and affordable. Just subscribed. Wonderful recommendations and tutorial.

I usually don’t use drug store primer, I tend more towards Hourglass snd Smashbox. I recently bought the L’Oréal infallible pro glow lock primer and it absolutely wonderful!
The wet n wild always naked eyeshadow palette! I knew u were going to say that one! I knew it! I remember hunting foe that palette and was sooo unbelievably happy to finally find it! It did take a couple months cuz wasn't sold on Walmart site and no stores within 200 miles of me had it! But I believe it was Walgreens or cvs, I wanna say Walgreens is where I found it, poking around in their website! I was so happy I came straight to your newest video then and left it in the comments! I can honestly say I agree with this as well on this! Best drugstore palette of all time!!

It's true drugstore price are going up. Here on UK Milani and even Nyx are not much cheaper than MAC or Urban Decay. With prices rising makeup is becoming an expensive hobby.

Nyx has good lips everything! Shoot their new matte lip creams, their milky glosses, butter gloss, juicy gloss, etc all so so good!

I usually don’t use drug store primer, I tend more towards Hourglass snd Smashbox. I recently bought the L’Oréal infallible pro glow lock primer and it absolutely wonderful!
The wet n wild always naked eyeshadow palette! I knew u were going to say that one! I knew it! I remember hunting foe that palette and was sooo unbelievably happy to finally find it! It did take a couple months cuz wasn't sold on Walmart site and no stores within 200 miles of me had it! But I believe it was Walgreens or cvs, I wanna say Walgreens is where I found it, poking around in their website! I was so happy I came straight to your newest video then and left it in the comments! I can honestly say I agree with this as well on this! Best drugstore palette of all time!!
Fantastic review of drugstore products; and not just for beginners! I recognized so many that you have recommended before, and was nodding my head when you mentioned many of the products I have bought! I am going to try some of those lip glosses. They look great and I am not willing to spend so much for name brand. Rather buy new shoes instead!

It's true drugstore price are going up. Here on UK Milani and even Nyx are not much cheaper than MAC or Urban Decay. With prices rising makeup is becoming an expensive hobby.
