Brett, for the millions of us who are Bob Ross fans... it's not about being able to paint, it's about the soothing half hour that takes us out of the craziness of the world.
Bob telling me to "beat the devil out of it" will forever live in my soul. Soothing violence is the best violence.

Absolute truth. Also, if you have a kid that just won't chill...Bob Ross is the best. It's an almost guaranteed nap. Sit them down with a snack, and you'll have nothing but Bob's voice for at least 30 minutes, and with luck, silence for another 45. Plus, you don't have to worry about him talking about something weird when you're not paying attention. I don't trust kid shows these days. They've been nothing but garbage for years now.
Pappyland was awesome too (another art show geared towards kids). You guys remember Pappy?!

The painting is actually very good considering she never painted, she never watched a Bob Ross video and was not allowed to pause. I'm very impressed. As somebody whose about to attempt his first painting....This fills me with a lot of confidence :)

Art teacher here....that wasn't bad at all for a first attempt, never painter. But it was HILARIOUS listening to your commentary, the flashes of your painting and his etc. My husband and I had to get out our inhalers due to the asthma attack we got from laughing so hard. Great way to start our morning! Keep up the great work Brett!

Art teacher here! 🙋♀️ You did a great job with your painting! Even though you seemed to have some anxiety about it, you watched the whole video and kept on painting; Remember that practice makes perfect and for someone who says they're "not an artist" I was very impressed with your work.
i would like to see Brett do this again where she can pause the video and take her time... Ive tried following his videos and they are pretty fast paced to follow real time. It was better than many of the other attempts at a similar challenge that I've seen tho, keep it up Brett!

I agree! I’d love to see her be able to pause it and really focus on following and learning the techniques, rather than trying to rush through it at Bob’s fast pace, with the goal being to actually try to create art rather than the goal being to keep up with the video.
We should all try with her - with the pauses.

The fact she did this her first try honestly makes me jealous, lol, I was fascinated with painting, drawing, and also I’m a perfectionist and that has kept me from trying to get better. I should probably try getting back into it.

This gave me flashbacks of my childhood. Bob Ross came in the tv like really early saturday or sunday mornings and I would wake up to watch him with my mom. I was always so mesmerized by his skill that I never even tried to paint along. It wasn’t until I was about 14 that I learned he died almost a decade before I was even born. It was devastating.

It was really good up to 7:22 but after that it was pretty much downhill. Still better than what I could ever do. Props to you Brett! 😂

Good job Brett, I can't even draw a crooked line. The reason Bob Ross laughed everytime he beat the brushes was because his studio was so small he sprayed the camera man's pantlegs. Fun fact. Hope you do more. Bob Ross is Legend.👑

I had to call in sick to work once with the flu and as I lay there, sick and feverish, I can across a re-run of Bob Ross’ show and fully watched it for an hour. It was so soothing.

For your first attempt at Bob Ross, it looks great. I would just imagine your mountain over looks a bay instead of a river and lake like Bobs.

This was the exact first Bob Ross painting that I followed along with. I was in high school, and it took me a full 8 hours, pausing as I needed. You did great 💖 if you try this again, definitely have a bin that you can you can beat the brushes in without making a huge mess. It'll help your paint not get so muddy/ help it stick better.
Definitely do more. Make it a monthly part of the show.

Several people have said this; weekly please. I'm okay without the wig as long as she has to keep pace without pausing. I really think Brett will become a marvelous painter if she keeps at it!

Not gonna lie, I was stressed watching this but also laughing really hard! It reminds me a lot of how my job training went as an auto insurance claims adjuster 🤣 no time to pause you just wing it! You did great!

Considering your closing statements, I think you'd get more out of a layered and more classical style of painting than Bob's wet-on-wet style. It allows for more refinement and planning.
The final result actually isn't that bad, if it had a couple more details then I could imagine myself buying it.

As an art major, I have to say I'm pretty impressed. For as little experience as you have this piece actually can out looking great. Has great form and texture and you mountains look on point, a little more practice with shape,value and depth and you will be a decent painter, hope we get more content like this.

That was unironically actually very impressive.
With no experience, im partially convinced the key to following a bob ross painting guide and having it look good is to not let it stress you out. My logical mind would try to follow the guide and make a carbon copy of Ross’s painting, but what you should be doing is picking up on the key techniques and letting your brush do the work. Thats just the two cents of somebody who doesn’t do this though

I used to find Bob Ross so relaxing, I could have listened to him talking all day.
I hear you on the perfectionism. The reason why I got into fiber art (particularly sewing) was to help me overcome mine. It forced me to slooow down, appreciate my mistakes as learning experiences that would make me a more knowledgeable and skilled artist, and ultimately commit to finishing projects even if they weren't going the way I wanted. It was lifechanging for me, and I hope you'll consider diving into art, too. :)
All that counts is that you had fun. For your first atempt its good. The more you do the better it will be. Look forward to the progress you make with them

That's actually a pretty good first attempt! I also tried the Bob Ross style of painting a few years ago and ended up painting hellscapes and monsters haha!

Oh man that was definitely me when I tried doing watercolor art during the whole quarantine time. I am not an artist whatsoever but a lot of tutorials made it seem a bit simple which was quite the opposite. Maybe I will try these types of paintings instead. Don't fret Brett you actually did quite well for a first attempt I'd say. Can't wait to see more Bob Ross paintings!
