    Hey Coach Jeremy,
I wanted to give you kudos for such a great vlog! I enjoyed watching this and found it so inspiring. I live in the states and have a desire to pack my gear and travel around the world to meet players that play our amazing game of hockey. This was such great insight into how other cultures embrace the game. Thanks for doing this and for sharing your journey with us. The roller hockey part blew me away! As someone who enjoys playing a little roller hockey, I thought that was great that roller hockey is also growing in those parts as well, it's a great option for those that may not have the ability to get on the ice.
    Keep up your great work!
    Take care.

Loved this video! Wanted to contribute that if you're ever interested in freestyle skating there's a huge culture for it at all 3 of the major ice rinks in the Miami area. When the roller rinks started closings the freestyle and dance skaters moved to ice down here and they even have several teams that compete against each other. Really cool stuff!

So glad I found your UA-cam. I am a full time videographer who just got into Hockey because it was never big where I grew up at in down south Alabama. Now that I’ve actually been able to watch and play, I have been trying to train to learn and play men’s league and maybe play for the Pensacola Ice Flyers. I wish I could spend a week with you and just to learn and gain the knowledge I lack considering I’m learning just now at 30. I am trying to get roller hockey to start down here but would love for my city to open a ice rink so I could get leagues going and get it more knowledgeable out here because I feel sooooo left out by not having Hockey for me to be apart of when I was younger in my area. Good job on all the videos, I’m trying to catch up on all of them lol but keep the training ones on repeat so I can try to learn fast since I’m playing catch up.

Terrific video! I was born in Japan, but came to the US (Boston area) at the age of 5 in 1965. I grew up playing hockey in the Big Bad Bruins era, and played for MIT and was a player/coach for Caltech (not your typical sports schools). After moving to LA in 1982, I also took up short track speed skating. As an athlete/coach in both sports, I enjoy traveling and connecting with local ice sports communities. I'm looking forward to more of your videos. Especially if you explore China in the run up to the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

This is fantastic, Jeremy. I've played a bit around Asia, and it's so much fun to see people in non-traditional hockey countries fall in love with the beautiful sport. Hockey is so much fun, if it was just more accessible (more rinks and cheaper), there's no reason it couldn't be as popular as soccer.

This is great, thanks for posting it. As a Canadian hockey player who is about to move to Jakarta for 3 years, I’ve been trying to figure out how I’m going to get any ice time, or if I’ll have to start roller hockey.

Hey I've been following your channel for a while now. Thank you for the interesting and useful content you got for learning to play hockey. I'm from Vietnam but I've been in Canada before, Edmonton was where I went to for High School. Before returning back in my hometown in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I was so afraid as if that would be the last time I could ever go ice skating but I was very surprised to see that people here already got to know about ice skating and there are actually two ice rinks in here. So I hope that perhaps someday in the future you would pay a visit here in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and we might have a chance to meet!

In the spirit of sportsmanship, it is great to see hockey spread throughout the world. The efforts to grow the sport should never be disparaged. After all, martial arts were mainly shared to the rest of the world by Asian countries. And guess what? We got to be pretty good at it. Good to see Canada sharing back. Love the grassroots stuff, like kids shooting around bottle caps, and such. That's where it begins.

At RMU in Pittsburgh, the private lessons usually have 5-6 coaches splitting up the ice time over a 2 hour period with two or three coaches on at once and there are 1-2 kids per coach over either a 30 minute lesson, a 45 minute lesson or an hour long lesson. They usually are $50 for a 30 minute, $75 for a 45 minute and $100 for an hour.

Hi Jeremy, try to come to Dalian, a northern Chinese coastal city. Here we have team called Dalian Ice Dragons, containing local hockey lovers (mostly seniors) and a squad of Canadian overseas teachers (mostly from BC, with few former CHL players) teaching at an international school here. We play weekly at a suburban rink near Dalian. I d say that our team, especially the Canadian part is pretty competitive in Chinese or even Asian hockey community. There will be tons of stuffs for you to show in your videos.

Awesome, Jeremy. My son and I (Canadians) live and play in Japan and this video really resonates. So true about the community vibe and passion for the game being global.
Where hockey in Japan IMO really suffers, however, is from a lack of a minor hockey association system. If the game is truly to grow, I think Japan will need develop one. There is the JIHF, but...
Like you mentioned, kids pretty much stick with one club for their whole youth and even through to adult rec. Levels are grouped by school grade (grade K-3; 4-6; 7-9; 9+ in our case) but older kids always get the lion's share of ice time. It's normal for younger kids or backup goalies to be dressed but benched game after game, or only get a single shift while 1 or 2 older kids literally plays the whole game. Oh, and only about 6-10 games a year (but they practice year-round, about once or twice a week). This emphasis on seniority, the lack of central structure in a country that in most other cases depends upon top-top authority, and an aversion to outsiders (unlike China, which is hiring the best coaches regardless of nationality), means that even as the game grows in Asia, its popularity/participation is rather stagnant in Japan, with teams and rinks always on the edge of folding. But, like you said, there's a smalltown community feel around hockey--those who like it, love it--and all involved in the game are wonderfully passionate about it.

Спасибо! Очень интересно! As a young hockey player from Russia, I am interested in your videos about spreading this great sport around all over the world!

I love your videos and to play hockey the last thing I need to learn is how to pivot. I have tried for 3 months and still can’t get it

I recently played in the MYNISS National ice skating staduim in Malaysia in the 2018 Womens Challenge up of Asia.... It was definitely an experience!! I even stayed at that hotel! I'm literally laughing at this. When we had the opening ceremony we had to stand on ice and I honestly thought it was raining. Such good memories!! Oh, and with the humidity... We had to stop several times during games because no one could see the puck, and we were wearing out white uniforms, I couldnt see our goalie from the bench. Crazy cool though! We placed second.

I met a guy during a skills class recently who took a trip to South Korea to visit his family, during that trip he decided to stay and play hockey there for a living with his brother and dad. Its definitely getting bigger in the Asian countries for sure.

Just look at Austin Matthews. A kid born in Arizona where every kid who shows up for tryouts makes the team and out of that comes the #1 NHL draft pick who makes history by scoring 4 goals in his first NHL ever game! Definitely proves it's not about where you come from but your love and dedication for the game and how much ice time you can get.

8:18 I saw that kid in the background and though about Clint Malarchuk. Kid needs to watch where he’s going so that doesn’t happen

What happened to Clint is the scariest thing to ever happen in hockey

Way off topic here, but I was wondering where I could pick up one of those red and white coffee mugs you’ve got. My wife really digs it and I’d like to get her one.
