    WOW! Those sure are "sticks in pots". But, you have a way of working them into beautiful bonsai trees.

    Darn - I just missed the premiere chat. Brilliant video and I love these willows. All the best for 2023. Its funny, I leave my oaks to later in Spring because the buds swell much later than all the other deciduous trees. Cheers, Xav

    1:09 I never knew royal oaks and English oaks were one and the same. How interesting!
    Got an iron oak/post oak tree growing near me that's got a tree preservation order on it. I've heard numerous schemes over the years of people trying to cut it down (legally they can't, but as you know it's all about bribing the right people, sadly). No one succeeded yet, luckily. It's seeds often fall onto my property so I'm attempting to dig up a seedling so if someone does chop the parent tree at least I'll still have the baby.

    Happy New year Nigel 🧡
    Thanks for these videos from past week, all the updates and clipping and carnage have hugely cheered me up! Can't wait to plant my acorns and maple seeds and everything to maybe make a mixed forest or just a single tree , but I'm all hauled up for spring with seeds. Still need the pots tho.... 🤔

    Ive given up on willow, they just keep dying back 😪. Fed them to the goats actually 😆 hopefully your variety isnt as prone as mine were. Also, I'd like to send you something, what is the best method to do that?

    • @Stettafire
      @Stettafire Рік тому +4

      Willows are interesting trees. They are prone to many diseases, but the strangest thing about them is while the vast majority of trees hate wet feet, for willows you gotta have wet feet and you can never give them enough water.

    • @gaeangardensbyizabela
      @gaeangardensbyizabela Рік тому +1

      @@Stettafire it makes sense what you observed, the willows naturally grow along the river banks, their roots hold the banks together. They love the wetness and when the rivers overflow in the spring and they get flooded, they can withstand and survive that

    • @Stettafire
      @Stettafire Рік тому +2

      @@gaeangardensbyizabela Indeed I travelled to Wales and went to Bodnant Garden. There they have a massive willow tree growing right alongside a man-made lake. They love the water.
      When I went there I saw the aftermath of storm Arwen. They had a lot of damage down there

    i use wax meliting in and leting it drip on the cut.

    • @Stettafire
      @Stettafire Рік тому +1

      I've known many people who do that with good results. I don't seal my cuts as a rule. I'm fairly new to bonsai but I'm an experienced gardener and in many gardening circles sealing cuts is a no-no.
      But as I've heard very different things from different people I've decided to keep an open mind. I think I'm going to try both. 😁 I'll try sealing cuts on one tree and not sealing on another :)
      If anyone has any suggestions for info on the pros and cons of sealing cuts Is be immensely greatful, always looking to learn ♥️
