    You remind me of Steve Marin in The Jerk, where he says (paraphrased), "I'm not taking anything....except this lamp, and that's all. This lamp. That's all I'm going to take is this lamp....and this pot....this lamp and this pot....and that's all I'm going to take....and this chair....this lamp, this pot, and this chair....and that's all....and this blender.... LOL
    Pretty tree.

    You mentioned north shore rocks.. I am a Northern Minnesotan... How to winter a Willow Bonsai at... -40 in the winter? Great video!!

    • @DavesBonsai
      @DavesBonsai  3 роки тому +2

      I love the North Shore. I'm not 100%, but with the -40, you might need a cold frame for willows. I leave mine outside each year and deal more with the critters than death of trees, however, I do lose some branching on almost every tree almost every year. So I'd cold frame up there.

    I have only watched a few of your videos so far and was wondering why you put such skinny tree trunks in bonsai pots?

    • @DavesBonsai
      @DavesBonsai  Рік тому

      Great question. I’m not out for any huge specimen per se, and have many trees not yet in pots with decent girth to the trunks. I’m simply enjoying the journey. Slow in some cases, but steady.

      Right on. I just started getting into plants half way through my life so I guess I look at it more as in how much time I have left on this earth. Guess grafting thick branches will make good Bonsai. Great work by the way.@@DavesBonsai

    • @DavesBonsai

      I can’t keep mine away from critters this year. Lots of pruning, and they keep growing like a weed, but I still don’t have a big primary branch. Just main trunk right now. Keep me posted. I personally wouldn’t worry about pruning some now. Lots of growing time left.

    I'm new to this. I planted my tree a couple of months ago. It's growing well, but my concern is that the trunk is super skinny, with 1 branch off the end that is now about 2 foot long. There weren't any instructions that came with it, and very little on the internet. How do I get more branches to grow. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks 😊

    • @DavesBonsai

      What kind of tree? Willow? Couple lines of thought. 1: Just let it grow the rest of the season. 2: cut the top off, and then the hormone “auxin” flows downs the tree to create more branch back budding.

    Hi Dave. Would you be willing to teach Zoom classes for beginners?

    • @DavesBonsai
      @DavesBonsai  4 роки тому +1

      Actually, this year I am the Chair of the Minnesota Bonsai Society Novice Workshops where we will be doing our three workshops this year in May, July, and September. However, they will be part zoom and part live. I'm not sure about other Zoom classes but is something I've been thinking about through MBS or on my own. Let me know more about what you are looking for and I certainly will consider it. I hope to do more of these workshops in the coming years. I'd love your feedback.

    • @yvetteholder1793
      @yvetteholder1793 4 роки тому

      I'm looking for a mentor who I can grow different types of bonsais with and meet on Zoom. That is my first preference. If that doesn't happen, but I hope it does, then I'll settle for Zoom workshops. It's just not enough to be taught on UA-cam because a person will have questions.@@DavesBonsai
