No wonder Nintendo wouldn't want to work with Arcade1Up to sell Build-It-Yourself Cabinets with Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr., Mario Bros, and even Vs. Series titles. They'd rather sell it themselves on the Nintendo eShop.
I'll preface saying I have no interest in collecting arcade cabs much less A1up's, but I agree with your points. From what I see, Arcade1ups are meant to be installed in homes, as the main selling point seems to bring some arcade experience to private living spaces. They're not meant to withstand the handling of many customers over several years unlike original cabinets. The recreational center in my university had original cabs and most of them were still very playable and in great condition.
Agree. Many people who own 1ups are already complaining theirs aren’t even turning on anymore and screens are blank and worse. So imagine in general use.
I get the disadvantages of having them in the hotels, as the maintenance would be an issue and they would be replacing joysticks and buttons. But I don't understand the notion of putting a pinball in there instead. The initial cost is about 20 times higher and the maintenance would be 100 times the headache and cost lol
@@xtlm you have to remember , pinballs are at bars and pubs everywhere taking a beating too. But they hold up for the most part. Yes you would still need maintenance people.
1st Week? My tron Stick broke after 10 minutes of play. Yes I got a tron. I was a sucker when they came out. I've since them sold most of my 1ups. I did replace the stick with GRS version.
Stern pinball in a suite not a bad idea... Maybe 1Up should focus on updating their pinball machines with 1080p, bigger playfield and an interactive backglass. Then make exact replicas of full size arcades into 3/4 scale that are more durable. If you make a good product perhaps these hotel chains will come to them wanting to buy their arcades?
True, it's a bad idea from a "maintenance and logistics standpoint" but I could say the same thing about a hotel putting real pinball and arcade cabinets anywhere on location. Can you imagine being a hotel manager and having to hire someone to come fix an old CRT? Every time I go to a hotel or movie theater that actually still has a game room (which is rare), all of the machines are broken. At least with an Arcade1Up you can just throw it in the garbage and buy a new one.
This only works if they have a bunch of replacement parts or even boxed machines ready to go when something goes bad. These machines would get absolutely thrashed in a hotel or bar environment. If the chains are aware of this and think it benefits them to eat those repair/replacement costs then maybe it could be listed as a perk.
Yea, if they had a bunch of replacment , and just swap out immediately, and maybe just send back to 1up for replacment, it could work. but shipping back and forth cabs would be a pain. maybe i'll go into 1up hotel room arcade fixing.
Totally agreed. It be like putting Ikea furniture in your best hotel rooms. A-1Up would have to vastly up their game with special "public" models. I've seen postings in the past about people that thought they could put these on location for added benefits, not knowing that the build quality is in the light weight range. Real arcades made in the '80s are still around, despite being in many random and unprotected locations because they were built to last. These machines were built for home gaming rooms with a mindset that the people that paid money to buy and build them are going to respect them. And, even then, inferior things like the Tron joystick's low grade and thin plastic or the Buck Hunter's poorly protected gun cameras are going to work against any TLC the owner might show to their paid machines. But on location with total strangers? Waste of money for the business.

It's an interesting idea for them and I see the cabs looking like Walmart displays, but....if 1up can get someone to bite AND not have to deal with warranty/maintenance, it would be a way for them to offload a lot of cabinets. I'm not renting a specific room or hotel chain because I can play a 1up in my room.
