What do you all think of the diversity of political views expressed here through flags and costumes? - Israeli flags - armband that says "Zionism is not Judaism" - "Trump 2024"
Thank you Frieda for explaining so beautifully the meaning behind the tradition of Purim. I cannot comment on the Presidential Election as I am not an American citizen. I’ve seen a number of videos of Haredim leaders(I hope I’ve got that title right)speaking out about Zionism, its basis in Scripture, and its conflation with Judaism so I’m not surprised by the armband “Zionism is not Judaism”. Seeing people, who have the same traditions but are of different political beliefs coming to together to rejoice as a community is wonderful, Shalom Frieda, regards, Mary.

Considering the trauma and betrayal by so called friends since Oct. 7th., this community deserves every moment of joy the holiday brings. So good to see it.

I love, love, love this. I'm not talking about the getting drunk part, but watching the men smiling, having fun, acting goofy for the camera. Usually they're the complete opposite. I know Purim is about acting opposite on your usual behaviour( like not being able to tell Mordecai and Haman apart and also rejoicing on the triumph of not being decimated, also how Esther was kind of hiding the part of her being Jewish, kind of like a disguise.
Yes, indeed! They were of the klausenberg sect, not satmar. You can see someone waiving them away, although the mood in general was pro Israel with signs saying “bring them home”. There was also a man you can see after the Israeli flags who wore armbands ghat said “@ Jew is not a Zionist”. So there were a diversity of expressed views, mostly pro Israel.
@@FriedaVizelBrooklynI did see the disapproval of the Israeli flag. I think I saw a few who I think were brezlov, or mayde they were Na Nach ? I keep watching and discover things I hadn't seen before
Frieda, thank you. As always a wonderful video, so well done in so many ways as only you could do. While I think it’s interesting and entertaining to see the contrast of how religious Jewish communities (and some not so religious) celebrate the holiday of Purim, of course there is much more to say. While for some, it seems to be largely a time when it is permitted to let loose and drink until drunk, if you asked almost anyone (probably before they have drank the alcohol) what is the real meaning of Purim, and why is alcohol a part? It is not simply a way to “celebrate” as most people outside the communities would likely believe. I think it’s important to mention, and to ask leaders of communities, why alcohol is a part of Purim, what the reasons are. It’s not made up, like most things in the Jewish world, but for very specific (and religious) reasons. It is certainly a time of paradox, and I think it’s important to share that context, which is unknown to most people “outside”, Jews included, as most non orthodox Jews would not know or celebrate in this way, if they do at all. Also, it’s worth noting that Jews getting drunk does not mean that wives, daughters, or girls are sitting )or dancing, with or like the men (and young men, boys) dressing up, drinking, or getting drunk. There are ways women and girls (depends on age) celebrate Purim, but it is indeed different, and there is no girl or woman getting “drunk”, maybe some a little inebriated, but never obviously so, never immodest, and keep in mind the women have even more responsibility more responsibility through Purim, the same responsibilities with children and their complete care, as well as all of the cooking, etc, plus needing to get to shul multiple of times to hear (obligated on Purim like the men) the reading of the megilla uninterrupted. Having children of different ages participating in a variety of ways, including the specific mitzvahs of the holiday like the specific seudas (festive meals)they prepare, and the mishloach manot (specific types of food gifts) prepared and during Purim given to neighbors by families, children, adults, as well as money- tzedaka given for Purim, both locally and beyond. The roles of men and women on Purim is very different. While there is a great deal of drinking among men that remains festive, and has some boundaries still observed, there are questions and differences from community to community about the appropriate ages for drinking and getting drunk on this holiday, and certainly what is done differently by boys and men, and women and girls. It is also worth noting that while the men are most visible and outwardly expressive, this story is very much a beloved and inspiring story of a Jewish woman who changes the world. A woman who while enslaved in some respects, and must remain “hidden” and modest, is also wise, courageous, outspoken, and powerful. She is a hero (the central hero) to women, girls, and men and boys, in this story. The other central character is the evil character of Haman, and this is the day that everything turns upside down (metaphorically), and the possibility for what we may not see as possible becomes a possibility. Evil is destroyed. There is a hope on Purim, that the evils that remain in the world are defeated, and that what is right, good, and true wins. It’s a very unique holiday in different ways for men and women, and while the women may only be seen, caring for children, their families, and standing to the side as the men dance, are vocal, and party, the women love this holiday too, in many ways and feel the connection to the deeply wise, powerful, modest, hidden Esther.

If you do run into me say hi!
So good to see a day of just…fun! I’ve never seen Purim done this well. Thank you for letting us share!
I’ve actually never enjoyed Purim this much. Felt perhaps like we all needed a bit of joy.
I love learning about the festivals in the Torah - - God commands the people to party! Thank you for the video, Frieda - - the production value was so high. You can't help but smile as you're watching it!
THIS is for getting me through that teeny tiny plane journey. Honestly, eternally grateful. 😂😂😅😅
Oh my Rachel I hope you are fast asleep! Thanks for all the gifts, you have given me the ultimate gift by joining me today!
@@FriedaVizelBrooklyn not now. It’s like 12 midday. I’m on bondi beach eating falafel. 🤣❤️ Was so fun to join. I particularly enjoyed your quest for glasses. I love random stranger chat. It’s my (unintentional) hobby.
@@RachG I ended up also landing some views through someone’s cereal box! And I had a lengthy eavesdrop session on two fantastic older men who knew their shit about eclipses and loved every second of it! That’s how I found out the line at greenwood cemetery was four blocks long!
You are having the best time, it’s just not fair!
@@FriedaVizelBrooklyn haha. I love that. sounds like a fun day.
I had a long chat with an old man in a Jewish shop in Bondi about the history of the Jewish community in Bondi. And now I’m off to the Jewish museum as a result. 🤣
My friend is like “how have you spoken to everyone in Sydney?” 🤪
You’re joining me next time, right?! 😉
@@RachG ask them for eclipse glasses 🤪 go have a great museum visit!!
Thanks!
Thank you so much, much appreciated. 💕✌️
Frieda, this was a lot of fun to watch! It’s a healthy thing to do, letting loose a little. Special occasions are a good place to do this. I myself, although I don’t drink alcohol, recently celebrated my sister’s big 6-0 with a cup of spiked chai. I was pleasantly buzzed and that made the evening even more enjoyable. Thanks for being our intrepid guide. 🙏
That sounds like fun. They say everything in moderation, although I don’t know that Purim counts as moderation, ha ha. Happy birthday to your sister!
Thank you, Frieda, for taking us along with you during this holiday!!! It has been so interesting to see so many letting go and having so much fun!!! Hope there weren't too many hangovers the next day!!!😊
Ha ha me too. Thankfully no hangovers for me!
Frieda the mitsvah and kiddush hasem you make is incredible anther fantastic video thank you so much
It’s soo good to see happy nice people having fun!! Thankyou for sharing ❤❤
I think my couch is a nice place to experience Purim, thank you Frieda! An awesome experience as usual❤
Ha ha I’ll go out for you!
What fun! I love the completeness of the culture in respect of emotional range! It truly reflects the completeness of Hashem and His plans for us and His love for His people!
I love your videos! I find the culture so interesting and beautiful in many ways. It's wonderful to have an opportunity to peek into a bit of a different world. The people the food the faith.. I love learning about it all. Thank you!
Fantastic as always. Thank you for once again letting us into this world, xxx
Thank you for watching!
Great video 🎉it looks like so much fun. Thanks for the video 😊❤
Just watching this again.
I love how welcoming everyone is to you- so lovely to see. ❤
I really enjoy all of the little clips in this. It’s like pure joy!
They’re brave dancing on the roof of vans. Makes my palms sweat just watching. Haha. I do not do well with heights…Even little heights. 🤣🤣
Me neither. I have always been terrified of heights. I can just imagine these young men’s mothers biting their fingernails.
@@FriedaVizelBrooklyn Oh same!! I do not do heights. At all! Heights and spiral staircases…I think probably because they usually come together. 😅🙃
What a fun tradition/holiday/celebration ❤
Great pick on the music!

Rachel thanks so much! Please come to NY so I can treat you in return! 😍🥰😍😘

Thank you so much. What a lovely video. I love being able to "experience" these events even when i can't be there.

Excellent video, beautiful videography, great editing.
Thank you!
Crazy. Too funny😂. Have enjoyed all the very videos. I must admit that crowded five floor walkup the non Jewish family lived in looked horrid to me so crowded
Great video! Thank you for sharing! 🥰
The dichotomy between the lifestyle and the celebratory day is so interesting. Especially love how even the young kids seem to “let their hair down” a bit.
Thank you, really enjoyed watching ❤
Purim is the day we realize hashem in all the hidden parts of reality. Very under rated holiday not all jews know about
Also Esther is the most kick ass character in the bible.
Wow. I was with you for the first couple of videos about Purim. Glad to see the later festivities.
Yes it got quite a bit crazy no?
@@FriedaVizelBrooklynnever expected it! lol But wondering about the women in the Community as well during the (hic) revelries? I guess they are not cutting up like the gents?
So fun thank you Frieda 🍷
I had no idea. Loved this so much. Also, the music in this was very catchy. I would like to know the performer.

@@FriedaVizelBrooklyn Her costume made me think of the Shpoler Zaide. For details about his dancing in a bear suit, see here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aryeh_Leib_of_Shpola
Yes that’s it, the general openness for people who are usually so on edge around the camera and outside, it’s so wonderful to see!
Thank you for the fun video ! It was interesting to see what looked like teenagers waving the Israeli flag. Have a great day Frieda.
There was also a van that proclaimed trump 2024
@@FriedaVizelBrooklynnow they can check all the boxes 😂 😂
@@FriedaVizelBrooklynI did see the disapproval of the Israeli flag. I think I saw a few who I think were brezlov, or mayde they were

Great content! Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much for sharing this, it was fun and had me tapping my feet😀
The song is an old Yiddish song about drinking because in the afterlife there’s no drinking. The first verse is Russian I believe.
The music is so joyful!!
Beautifully stated

What are the lyrics for that great EDM dance tune? Chap Arayn a Vodka? Where can I find a r cording of the song?
Here is the Yiddish, which is the part I know:
Chapts arein a vodka
Vee lang men vet noch leben
Veyl oif yenem velt vet men eich nisht geben!
Grab a bit of vodka
As long as you’re alive
Because in the afterlife they won’t give you any.
