What do you all think of the diversity of political views expressed here through flags and costumes?
    - Israeli flags
    - armband that says "Zionism is not Judaism"
    - "Trump 2024"

Thank you Frieda for explaining so beautifully the meaning behind the tradition of Purim. I cannot comment on the Presidential Election as I am not an American citizen. I’ve seen a number of videos of Haredim leaders(I hope I’ve got that title right)speaking out about Zionism, its basis in Scripture, and its conflation with Judaism so I’m not surprised by the armband “Zionism is not Judaism”. Seeing people, who have the same traditions but are of different political beliefs coming to together to rejoice as a community is wonderful, Shalom Frieda, regards, Mary.

I guess the one good thing about such an insular community is that the betrayal is "out there."
Can't be said for progressive Jews. Many of us lost lots of friends, and even other Jewish friends.

Purim, A day in the Chasidic community with much more interpersonal interaction with outsiders than usual beautifully captured on film for us to see & enjoy. I was also happy to see Frieda being invited in to eat & celebrate joyously as she toured these familiar streets. Shkoyakh!

Thank you Zelde! It was an unusual moment for me. I don’t know what the future holds for me as a filmmaker of this community, I never know when I’ll say something that people will decide is not to their liking and then maybe I won’t be so welcome, but this Purim was purely joyous welcome surprise. I could have never imagined this when I started this channel.

I heard a story , I would like to share, let me put my self in his place . I am an agent for the FBI . We have been having many bank robberies in this Area. I’m on stake out at a shop that sells pops , cool drinks and hot dogs fish and chips there are a lot of the bank employees come here for lunch , could it be an inside job , Maybe , there is some one here , that is getting intel from the employees.
I am 6’2” well built dark tan built like a gorilla and very fast , except I have one problem talking to women.
As I am picking papers and sweeping up French fries at Sal’s sea food and hot dogs . It happened the perfect woman , the woman of my dreams .
How in embarrassing what do I say , I’m a field agent supervisor for the FBI I froze , I couldn’t find a word to say . Her and friends returning to the bank it was about 200 yards away. They were cutting across the grass , the side walks were elevated . I walk rapidly behind her , I could see bronze skin and smell her perfume, it was the most wonderful flowers you have ever smelt, I could see her Black hair , glistening like Silk from the sun. .
Still lack of words could not come off my tongue, I ran by her like I was going to get Change at the bank, I thought to my self Stupid how would she know that. It worked out well for me she entered the bank made a left hand turn she must have been the bank President it was a very Large office I saw where she sets.
The clerk said can I help you.
      I did something I would never do , I took a CHANCE .
There was parked by the front an out door garage roll up at Sals , a fast looking dirt bike with the key in it and put on the helmet Salvation that was on it . It was pointed towards the interior lobby of Sals . I jumped on it as I was coming down hit the key , it started , I did 3 complete donuts, I peeled out the across the lawn up and over the side walk , about12’ in the air. I was heading towards the Bank . I got closer and closer , the I pulled the front wheel up , best wheelie that I have ever done.
The Doors were glass they didn’t brake. I turned to the left.
Another wheelie though her door . She was not there , so I did circles on her floor and stoped at her desk . I grabbed a sharpie & paper. I wrote my My Love My Love My fair dove .
      I did all this for you . Hosea 1 : 2 …………
my lady fair , Love of my life, merry me and become my wife, bear me a son , I will call him Jezreel , then you can bear me daughter Lo- ruhamah May be her name.
Everyone is looking my Love I must go , I must depart .
It is hip hip hip and away I Go.

    Usually they're the complete opposite.
I know Purim is about acting opposite on your usual behaviour( like not being able to tell Mordecai and Haman apart and also rejoicing on the triumph of not being decimated, also how Esther was kind of hiding the part of her being Jewish, kind of like a disguise.

Yes, indeed! They were of the klausenberg sect, not satmar. You can see someone waiving them away, although the mood in general was pro Israel with signs saying “bring them home”. There was also a man you can see after the Israeli flags who wore armbands ghat said “@ Jew is not a Zionist”. So there were a diversity of expressed views, mostly pro Israel.

Frieda, thank you. As always a wonderful video, so well done in so many ways as only you could do. While I think it’s interesting and entertaining to see the contrast of how religious Jewish communities (and some not so religious) celebrate the holiday of Purim, of course there is much more to say. While for some, it seems to be largely a time when it is permitted to let loose and drink until drunk, if you asked almost anyone (probably before they have drank the alcohol) what is the real meaning of Purim, and why is alcohol a part? It is not simply a way to “celebrate” as most people outside the communities would likely believe. I think it’s important to mention, and to ask leaders of communities, why alcohol is a part of Purim, what the reasons are. It’s not made up, like most things in the Jewish world, but for very specific (and religious) reasons. It is certainly a time of paradox, and I think it’s important to share that context, which is unknown to most people “outside”, Jews included, as most non orthodox Jews would not know or celebrate in this way, if they do at all. Also, it’s worth noting that Jews getting drunk does not mean that wives, daughters, or girls are sitting )or dancing, with or like the men (and young men, boys) dressing up, drinking, or getting drunk. There are ways women and girls (depends on age) celebrate Purim, but it is indeed different, and there is no girl or woman getting “drunk”, maybe some a little inebriated, but never obviously so, never immodest, and keep in mind the women have even more responsibility more responsibility through Purim, the same responsibilities with children and their complete care, as well as all of the cooking, etc, plus needing to get to shul multiple of times to hear (obligated on Purim like the men) the reading of the megilla uninterrupted. Having children of different ages participating in a variety of ways, including the specific mitzvahs of the holiday like the specific seudas (festive meals)they prepare, and the mishloach manot (specific types of food gifts) prepared and during Purim given to neighbors by families, children, adults, as well as money- tzedaka given for Purim, both locally and beyond. The roles of men and women on Purim is very different. While there is a great deal of drinking among men that remains festive, and has some boundaries still observed, there are questions and differences from community to community about the appropriate ages for drinking and getting drunk on this holiday, and certainly what is done differently by boys and men, and women and girls. It is also worth noting that while the men are most visible and outwardly expressive, this story is very much a beloved and inspiring story of a Jewish woman who changes the world. A woman who while enslaved in some respects, and must remain “hidden” and modest, is also wise, courageous, outspoken, and powerful. She is a hero (the central hero) to women, girls, and men and boys, in this story. The other central character is the evil character of Haman, and this is the day that everything turns upside down (metaphorically), and the possibility for what we may not see as possible becomes a possibility. Evil is destroyed. There is a hope on Purim, that the evils that remain in the world are defeated, and that what is right, good, and true wins. It’s a very unique holiday in different ways for men and women, and while the women may only be seen, caring for children, their families, and standing to the side as the men dance, are vocal, and party, the women love this holiday too, in many ways and feel the connection to the deeply wise, powerful, modest, hidden Esther.
