there is good fiction but unless you're reading like Dostoevsky or some other deeply intense writer I get your point
that said there's simple stuff like Lord of the Rings which has a lot of interesting allegory and basic wisdom, Tolkien was a WW1 vet so I respect him far more than JK Rowling or that fat greasy fuck George R. R. Martin
To imagine stimulates one's mind, fiction books still entertain our cognition in areas like creativity and empathy, we don't need to be elitist about reading, any genre is fine since reading on its own is a good activity which stimulates by default our cognition.
