Dis this to several machines. I used large Belting material. It has threads in it like fanbelts. Every machine dhowed significant improvement. The old craftsman with ghr square hole is notorious for clogging. Not any more.

Yeah, this modification was a project that I am very happy with. It’s unbelievable the difference it makes in throwing snow. Very nice! Thanks for watching.

The impeller mod is a must for just about any snow blower. Nice results!
I had an old Craftsman II Trac-Drive 5/23 with that same 5hp Tecumseh engine. Little work horse to say the least, but it would always fight me to start when it was 20 or below.
How does yours start in those temps?

Yes, the old Yard Machines 5HP works like it never has before!
About the time that I did the impeller job a couple years ago, I was having trouble getting it running but it wasn’t due to cold temperatures. The carburetor needed work so I just ordered a new one online. It has electric start so I really don’t have any issues getting it going. It idles a bit strange now though, it runs at full throttle from the high setting down through about 1/4 throttle. But for a 20 year old machine, I’m not complaining.

@@DIYBoomers I can see that in the vid!
I tried to replace my carb as well, but all of the new offerings (Oregon, etc.) did not have that manual high-speed adjustment screw at the bottom of the carb bowl.
IMO, these Tecumseh's need that to "dial them in". So I ordered a carb kit for it and rebuilt it.
Anyway, thanks for the answer! Great vid!!

      Thanks, you’re welcome.
Yeah, at that time, I didn’t realize not having that adjustment would affect it that much. But you’re right, they really need it. You did it properly.

Make sure you're using only premium gas, and maintain your oil and plug.

For sure. That modification turned my old 5 hp into a different animal! It was most definitely the difference between night and day!
