This is my long awaited full trip video review from onboard what I think is Britain's GREATEST Train Journey along one of the MOST Scenic Railway Lines in the world, The West Highland Line! It's the FAMOUS Caledonian Sleeper "Deerstalker" Train from Fort William to London Euston.
It does not require two loco to pull the train. The class 66 is heavy duty freight loco but it does not have the electricity generation require for the coaches. That what the class 73 is for.
@@BenDover-ln6ns The 73's are from the 1960's, some had there engines replaced with 1,650hp ones instead of there original 650hp engines, these became the 73/9's. The 73's are pretty reliable.
I love the clear train sounds but I was a bit shocked to see the twin space offered and the super narrow corridor where even a small child can bang shoulders on both sides. I was pleased to see the Club car space, at least the windows were full size there. Your right though it still looks like an impressive short trip.
The lights in the cabin are dimmable. When you first arrive, they're turned down to around 50% brightness and cause the flickering on camera. The dimmer is in the lower bunk near the door. I noticed that myself when I was on it to Inverness and back over Easter '23.
Many thanks for a brilliant trip and commentary, I learned a great deal along the way. Have subbed, and look forward to viewing your other vids. Cheers, Greg, down-under, N.Z.
Thank You G. Glad you liked it. There are more videos coming next month. But they will be posted on my New Channel. Link down below. youtube.com/@Jack_Rice
I did this trip in reverse in May 2022. I originally booked a Classic room but I found out not long after I booked that Club Rooms were £5 more than what I paid for a Classic Room so I cancelled my original booking and booked myself a Club room
Very interesting video. I travelled on the Sleeper from London to Inverness and had a great sleep, but guess a 27 hour flight from New Zealand helped!! Wonderful scenery. Look forward to seeing more reviews.
I actually somewhat noticed that myself @englishdeltajazz . But thankfully it didn't really effect the incredible views that the highlands had to offer.
The scenery is breathtaking, but the availability of amenities falls short and the cabin is totally claustrophobic and many people would not be able to stand it for long.

If that is the case, then why doesn't the Class 73 pull the train down to Edinburgh on it's own?
@@PlanesTrainsFan The 73 is not as reliable as the Shed. the train is about 250 tonns, the Shed pull 1600+ normally
So they spent all that money on the 73s and they’re not a reliable loco? They may as well just opted for a generator coach again.
@@BenDover-ln6ns They didn't spend that much, the 73s came from Waterloo services originally

Thanks for the video. I'm doing this trip in reverse soon and found it informative. Looking forward to seeing the countryside of Scotland.
Great video my friend and beautiful scenery!
There is definitely something very special about the Deerstalker. I love it.
You're right Simon, I too loved and would definitely take it again!
Truly amazing video.
Can not wait for my trip in June 2024.
Thanks for sharing 👍

Thanks for the video! Check your camera settings to fix that shutter flicker in all of your cabin shots - next time..

Cheers Lightingjohn! Thanks for Watching! I certainly hope to do more reviews soon!
Is the Caledonian Sleepr washed in Fort william?
The correct spelling is loch not the Irish Lough
Is wheelchair or cart service available for passengers who don't want to walk the mile into Euston Station?
When exactly can non-deluxe sleeping car passengers use the diner lounge?
How was ride quality. The cars looks bumpy and jerky in video.
I like to ride on the Caledonian Sleeper and the Mk5 coaches. Very nice train.
I also very much like the Caledonian Sleeper and it's mark 5 carriages. One of my favourite train journeys to date.
Couldn't agree more. 👍
And you don't pick up the WCML at Edinburgh. Otherwise a great video. Pip Pip.
When the scenery is so stunning it's pretty bad that the logos block some of the windows.
I actually somewhat noticed that myself @englishdeltajazz . But thankfully it didn't really effect the incredible views that the highlands had to offer.
Mm now to be taken in house soon by the Scottish Govts own transport division.
What do u mean "start to improve", what part of lochabbar is not beautiful.?
So did you pay a supplement to occupy a twin bunk cabin by yourself?
I was not alone in my cabin, I was travelling with a companion.
@@PlanesTrainsFan Cheers just wondered how that worked
Need voice narration.
too expensive by miles

And the cost ??????? Thats why its empty
That's the "one of the best public sleeper trains in the entire world"?!? You've got to be kidding. smh
